SERVICE: service was up to fine dining standard.
VIBE: traditional fine dining vibe. To me the vibe in here is quite heavy, not really targeting younger age. However I love the attention to detail of the table set up.
From the moment you walk in, everything is dialed in. The setting is elegant without trying too hard, the service is polished but never stiff, and the food is genuinely top class. Every dish tastes like it has been thought about, argued over, perfected, and then respectfully placed on your plate.
And it’s the little things that really seal the deal. Your water glass is never empty. The staff somehow appear exactly when needed and disappear just as fast. At the end of the night, they don’t just say goodbye they walk you out, help you with your coat, and send you off like you’re family who did very well at dinner.
Chiado doesn’t just serve a meal. It hosts you. Quietly confident, deeply delicious, and effortlessly classy. If this is fine dining, then yes please… we’ll take seconds.
We chose the set menus, which made everything much easier to decide, and we really enjoyed that. Their drink selection is extensive. I had the tequila cocktail and my friend ordered a dirty martini. Both were excellent.
For appetizers, the salmon tartare was outstanding. For our mains, we had the fish, which was also very good and perfectly prepared.
I highly recommend this restaurant. I did not drive, but I heard there is public parking nearby, which is convenient.
Tonight we visited a truly authentic Portuguese spot and it did not disappoint.
We started with the grilled squid — super tender and flavorful (we personally would’ve loved just a touch more salt), and the tiger shrimp packed a serious punch thanks to real piri-piri sauce. So heads up if spicy isn’t your thing! The flavor was fantastic, though we think butterflying the shrimp on the grill would have taken it to the next level. The grilled sardines were also a classic and well executed.
For entrées we shared the Australian rack of lamb and traditional Portuguese cod.
The lamb… WOW. Hands down the best we’ve ever had — incredibly tender, juicy, and truly melt-in-your-mouth.
The cod was good too, though for our taste it might have been desalted just a little too much.
Service was impeccable — very attentive and knowledgeable without being intrusive. And if you love wine, they’ve got a fantastic Portuguese wine selection
Overall: a warm, authentic, delicious Portuguese dining experience.
We’ll definitely be back.
Starters:
The salted cod quenelles is my best bet. The texture was light and creamy inside with a crisp exterior, and the flavour immediately reminded us of the classic versions we’ve had in Macau.
The lobster and shrimp bisque was rich and smooth. It leaned more toward a hearty seafood soup than an intense lobster flavour, but paired well with bread and was satisfying.
Mains:
The salmon was well cooked and moist, topped with a tangy plum-based sauce that added a refreshing contrast. The vegetables on the plate were a pleasant surprise. The beets and sweet potato were prepared in a way that made them almost unrecognizable, especially the yellow beetroot, which was new to us and quite enjoyable.
The skate wing with risotto was unexpectedly delicate. The fish had a very fine, tender texture, almost silky, and worked nicely with the creamy risotto. A good choice for anyone curious about lesser-seen seafood.
Desserts:
Both the crème brûlée and the pecan tart were very traditional and on the sweeter side. Rich and indulgent, but we couldn’t finish either due to the sweetness.
A small but memorable detail was the house olives served with the bread, which were among the best we’ve had in a restaurant. Worth noting that extra bread comes with an additional charge.
Overall, the dishes were well executed and clearly rooted in classic Portuguese seafood cooking. The Winterlicious menu offers a good introduction, though it likely doesn’t showcase the restaurant’s full seafood range. Still, service is awesome and the place feels decent. Overall a solid experience with comforting flavors and well-prepared fish dishes.
The fresh fish is simply outstanding — you can truly taste the quality and freshness in every bite. It’s always cooked to perfection, full of flavor, and beautifully presented. There’s a real sense of craftsmanship in each dish, and that makes the experience even more special.
What keeps me coming back is the consistency. The food is always incredibly well made and served with care and attention to detail. You can feel the pride in the kitchen, and it shows in everything that comes to the table.
If you appreciate amazing seafood and a restaurant that consistently delivers excellence, Chiado is an absolute gem. I can’t recommend it enough!
