We (unfortunately) discovered around 1:30 p.m. that many restaurants in France close at 2 p.m., which caught us by surprise. With limited time and most of the places we had been recommended already closed—and no chance to go outside the citadel—we ended up eating here.
The food was average. The duck in the cassoulet was actually very good, but the cassoulet itself wasn’t to my taste. I’ve had cassoulet before and enjoyed it, but this version didn’t really work for me. We ordered one cassoulet and one daily menu.
The dishes looked quite posh, but overall it just wasn’t our style. That said, the bread was delicious, and the service was nice and efficient—nothing slow or problematic.
All in all, it’s an okay option when you need to eat and don’t have many alternatives, but not a place I’d go out of my way to recommend.

Beautiful food served in a stunning garden terrace. Staff were very polite, quick and attentive. Highly recommend for someone wanting quality and refined dining experience a la francais.

Disappointing on all fronts, main was the worst experience (a special- perhaps i should have known) dessert was the best. Still, hugely underwhelming considering the price . Not even asked if I had a nice evening (seulemant) or enjoyed the food… probably cos the staff knew it wasn’t worth it themselves…. plus I had to ask for additional glass of wine after waiting, and wasnt offered a dessert until I caught someone’s eye… shame really!

We booked in on New Year’s Day online. We picked a 4 course menu with wine pairing online. Upon arrival they gave us 3 different menus and no real explanation of what the differences were. We decided to stick with what we had booked for as opposed to changing to something else. We ordered an aperitif which never arrived, we were not offered any water, we sat for about 30 mins without anyone coming to us to offer us water/bread or anything else. This was the first sign of what was to come. We got a little amuse bouche and had no explanation of what they were (and still nothing to drink). We managed to catch someone’s attention and got some water ordered and the aperitif just didn’t come. The rest of the dishes were nice, but we had to chase someone down to get our second wine pairing brought over. When it came to dessert and the final wine, the wine came after we’d finished the course, there wasn’t enough wine to fill my glass and I was told one moment – which sounded like they were going to get more and come back- they never did.
No one checked in throughout the meal if we were ok or happy with things. Hence the lack of drinks throughout and even missing drinks.
Decent food, absolutely horrible service. Maybe the waitress was hungover from new years, or because we weren’t native French speakers that she didn’t want to deal with us. Real shame as feels like could be a lovely experience if the staff were better.

Really enjoyed this restaurant; one carnivore, one pescatarian; lovely, friendly staff.

Excellent quality restaurant, probably the second best in the medieval city (La Barbacane is famously excellent but can be difficult to get a table at, Chez Christine is more approachable, affordable and available), food is imaginative and presented in a stylish way, exactly as you would want from a quality French restaurant. We were almost put off by some others reviews but I can only assume that the restaurant listened to criticism and stepped up, staff were friendly and efficient, food was served quickly (almost too quickly, we ate from the set menu so one of the benefits of that is a speedy service). The only negative we found was that the bill came up short, they missed off one of the glasses of wine we had so we pointed this out and the guy laughed shyly and thanked us for our honesty. Plates were pretty in the French way, but well apportioned and we left full and very happy. There’s lots of poor quality touristy restaurants in the medieval city but this restaurant isn’t one of them, seek it out, in fact I’d say book in advance, just to make sure you have a nice experience (and don’t end up with tinned Cassoulet from a tourist trap). Highly recommended.

We dined at Chez Christine for dinner on 26 October and had a superb meal. The amuse bouche was a treat and very flavour packed. The assiette starter was varied, delicious and one order was more than sufficient for two people. The pork for the main was delightful and wonderfully presented. We recommend the l’enchantement Simple wine. Chez Christine was an unexpected and delightful find!

We had the most beautiful meal here from the menu of the week.
The food was fabulous.
Service and wine recommendations were so good.
A lovely evening in Carcassonne and we wil certainly return.

Lots of potential but also lots of holes to fill. Should be 5 stars for the price being charged. Bit style over substance, flavours should be bolder.
The good: warm welcome, great venue, main courses were well thought out and executed, delicious bread, wine and desserts made me smile although they were on the basic/canteen side.
The bad: very slow service due to lack of staff which made it pointless mentioning anything as just wanted to eat by the time starters arrived.
My 20euro starter of white asparagus essentially consisted of some overcooked, underseasoned waterlogged stringy asparagus w a little herring roe , the candied egg was lost in the water-didn’t feel like any value was added to the asparagus and could have done better myself.
My partners starter of mushroom, poached egg, brioche was underwhelming and once again watery from the poached egg dumped ontop. No bad, just not really that good.
Creme Catalan tasted nice but was scrambled egg texture from being over cooked.
My spritz felt like Campari and tonic w no ice, served in a white wine glass @11 euro.
Chipped plates and glasses which we asked to change.
No plates w bread which left the table covered w crumbs and mess the whole meal, butter was melted into a puddle and being asked to re use cutlery for each course would be ecceptable in a casual cheap bistro, but this place paints itself as something different with its prices and menu.
Not a good look using the same cutlery from egg or shellfish based starter into a main course.
Empty bottles and glasses littered the table.
These points are constructive and designed to help the place improve the experience.
As a proffessional chef who visits regularly, I’ll try again for lunch in a few weeks because I believe with the caliber from the michelin starred team @cityhotel behind this restaurant and the will of the team it could be great, just needs to look at the smaller details, value for money and improve the service.

As others said before this should be a 5 star restaurant both based on price and the quality of food. Unfortunately it is not even close to that. The space is quite nice and has lots of potential. The food is absolutely delicious, nicely presented, and well seasoned. The service however is underwhelming to say the least. The servers forgot parts of our orders and we had to ask for things such as side plates multiple times. The servers were also relatively unfriendly and did not show any interest in their customers.
