Stopped into Chepo’s in Eagle River recently, and overall it was a great experience! First off, their Chepo’s margarita is a total winner. Simple, refreshing, and perfectly balanced, not overly sweet or heavy on the mix like some places. It hit the spot and set the tone for the meal.
Now, let’s talk food. The birria tacos were absolutely amazing, hands down the best I’ve had in Alaska so far. Tender, flavorful, and packed with that rich, savory goodness you hope for with birria. The consomé was delicious too, perfect for dipping.
If I had to find one downside, it’d be the beans and rice. They were pretty bland and didn’t add much to the plate, definitely could use a little more seasoning or depth of flavor.
But what really made the visit stand out was the service, our server went above and beyond, super friendly and attentive without being overbearing. You can tell they genuinely care about their guests having a great time.
All in all, Chepo’s is absolutely worth a stop if you’re in Eagle River. Go for the margarita and birria tacos, you won’t be disappointed.

Best birria tacos in Alaska! I have to eat it slowly to savor every bite! The cilantro salsa was surprisingly delicious for a nacho dip! Horchata is delicious too, Iif only I can keep on drinking but got full from the tacos!! Met Ms. Lucia, such a nice lady and really great to talk to. I HIGHLY recommend this place, especially if you’ve been looking for an authentic taste like home ♥️

This place hands down gets 5 stars for its awesome customer and delicious authentic Mexican food. Be warned their serving sizes are huge, and you more than likely will be put into a food coma like I was. Their chips are I forgot to mention.

Love both the Eagle River and Wasilla locations! Great spots for Mexican food. Coming from Texas, these are my go-to places for a tasty bite whenever I’m in the area. Love their margs too!

I can’t believe I only have pics of drinks. Scallops Maya and Shrimp Chipotle are my fav dishes. And their guacamole and queso with spinach are healthy choices. Ernesto and Claudia are top notch servers and make things easy. Not as fancy as the one in Wasilla, but a fine meal and great place

This location is mine and my husband’s favorite. Food has always been consistent, service AMAZING, we love the Hispanic server with the glasses she was our witness for our marriage certificate and is always so nice and bubbly.
