This is by far one of the best places I’ve eaten in awhile. The food was amazing. The food was inexpensive and the portions were huge. Our server Victoria was so kind and came by our table many times to make sure my family and I were good, and taken care of. The music played was quite enough so I wouldn’t have to speak loudly to my family, but loud enough for me to enjoy it. This place was also very clean. The overall vibe was great and I enjoyed my time here. I will definitely be back to eat here again.

This restaurant used to have different owners, it was run down, dark, dingy. The new owners have another restaurant off Lancaster, and they are fantastic! The interior was redone, its bright and beautiful, clean and friendly. The food is every bit as good as the Lancaster one!

For those who are OG Hong Kong House patrons you would know of their amazing deep red sauce that went on their General Tso’s chicken… by far it was the best in salem.

Well today, we wanted that exact dish, as thats what we order 100% of the time.
Knowing they are under new ownership, I noticed their menu has changed a tad, prices have gone up (usually what happens under new ownership).

But im sad to find that their General Tso recipe has changed. Its not that super saucy deep red sweet/tangy sauce anymore. It is a general orange-ish sauce. Still has a tangy/sweet. But completely different flavor profile, a lot of black pepper, not the red peppers youd find in the original al red sauce.
The portions seem to be a good size, and we also ordered chicken fried rice which seems to be about the same.

But im VERY sad their General Tso sauce has changed. I dont think we will be visiting as often. PLEASE BRING BACK THE RED SAUCE.

also, I understand they are undergoing some construction and updating the inside, which was needed in some ways, but now its losing that vintage Chinese atmosphere. Its starting to look a little stale as most updated establishments are moving too.
But doing loud construction during operating hours, and having guests in the dining hall is very loud, annoying and makes the visit not enjoyable. The workers had boxes laying on the floor in the walk way of the workers and they were going in and out around customers with flooring, and wall material… cant that stuff wait during closed hours or at night?

Needless to say, some things are changing for the good, and to keep up with economic times, but changing the recipe and turning the inside to a stale/bland establishment does not seem like the right move. Hong Kong House should keep its roots and show the culture. It makes it a unique experience.

I read the reviews and decided my wife and I should give it a try. The staff is very attentive and friendly. My wife was born in HK, and says this is the best Chinese food she’s had since she went back there in the 90s. I loved the Gai Lan (Chinese broccoli) with garlic and they added tofu & mushrooms for just a bit more. I would eat that everyday if I lived close by.

A very clean place! The waitresses are super friendly. The potstickers are delicious and CRIPSY!! The Thai ice tea is also very delicious, it’s not super sweet like many other places make it, best I’ve ever had! This is my husband and I’d new go to Chinese place. The pricing is also inexpensive!

Before college, I brought my daughter here all the time. She was adventurous and tried something new quite often.
I had two standbys I ordered most often, twice cooked Pork or Mongolia beef. The ladies working here are so nice and friendly. The old world style restaurant is just too quaint. It makes for the full experience in dining. Plenty of parking, and handicap can enter from north side entrance.
I know I needed it.
I want to try the Peking Duck.
I hear from other patrons it marvelous.

My favorite place to go. Working out way through the menu. I like a lot of their spicy plates. My bf likes the lo Mein. The BBQ pork is never dry and the best we’ve had in town. Tea us amazing and the egg flower is our goto.

We have eaten in the restaurant but decided to order in and what a huge disappointment! Mongolian beef was mushy, tasteless. Sweet and sour chicken was so over breaded and over cooked it was inedible. Ordered the BoBo platter, what a mistake everything was inedible! What a waste of money! Time to find a real Chinese restaurant! Do not waste your money. Original owners I’m so sorry you are not here.

First visit since remodel and new name. Food was excellent. We had orange chicken, mu shu pork, onion pancakes, and cashew chicken, all delicious and reasonably priced. The portions were generous.
The staff was friendly and quick.
Highly recommend.
