I first discovered this restaurant back when it had a 4.6-star rating, and I was impressed. One of the things I really liked was the portion sizes. For the first time, I ordered beef and broccoli and actually got beef, not just a mountain of broccoli. The rice even reminded me a little of the fried rice you’d find in New Jersey/New York—and after living on the East Coast for 20 years, that flavor brought back memories I truly missed.
Unfortunately, things have gone downhill since then. The quality has dropped noticeably, and even the overall rating has gone down. The service is terrible—staff don’t greet you, don’t smile, and make you feel like they’d rather be anywhere else.
And the food? Honestly, it’s awful now. Prices are high, but instead of generous portions of meat, they now serve huge piles of broccoli with just a few strips of beef. It feels like a complete waste of money and quality.
If you’re new around here, I’d honestly recommend skipping this place. Don’t waste your time or your money. Sadly, they’ve lost me as a customer.

We hadn’t eaten and it was late and many restaurants were closed but I’m glad this one wasn’t. The service was great and the food was even better. We ordered the lettuce wraps which were absolutely my favorite part of our meal. I ordered some orange chicken and some veggie rice. The orange chicken has a mild to moderate spice level depending on your tolerance but was really flavorful. My partner ordered the chicken chow mien and really liked it as well. The best part were the portion sizes. We ended up eating left overs for two days because we had no idea the portions were so big. Everything was hot and flavorful.

I got an inexpensive (and generously portioned) special which was the best Chinese food I’ve had in years. The sweet and sour chicken was juice, lightly crisp with a sauce that wasn’t overpowering. Fried rice was outstanding. A broccoli chicken dish was the star of the show, with bold flavors, crisp veggies and tender chicken. Excellent Pu’er tea also, best I’ve had in a restaurant. I will definitely be back.

I’ve going here for years now. What’s not to like, you get greeted pleasently as you come in, if you order take out the food is on time, warm and delicious…
The portions compared to the prices are also very generous. And you always get a couple fortune cookies
I have also left business cards here. Thank you Chen for supporting small businesses and will continue to come here for a nice meal

We enjoyed our meal! Tasty general chicken. Tasted super fresh. The breaded chicken was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. I also found the dumplings to be mildly spicy. The low mien and the fried rice were also a hit. Next time I would try the shrimp and broccoli. Great portions for a decent price. Husband enjoyed the strawberry smoothie. 8/10 try it!

Very nice place, I always feel like I’m getting pampered with their amazing customer service. They’re very friendly and lovely people.
Food is amazing, large portions for a good price, their menu offers a wide variety of options, as well as their drinks. Their teas are imported too!

Went to Chen’s on Sunday May-18-2025 with my wife, our youngest son and his girlfriend for the first time after a recommendation from a friend. WOW! my friend was right and all four of us agreed, Hands down the best Chinese food we have had in the Salem/Keizer area in years. We had Chicken Lettuce Wraps and Crab Puffs as appetizers then each of us had a combination dinner. I had a #4 Shrimp, Sweet and Sour Pork, Pork Fried Rice, and Crab Puffs. Tara had a #3 Chicken Lo-Main, Sweet and Sour Chicken and Crab Puffs. Justin and My Wife had #1 General Tso’s Chicken, Pork Fried Rice, Crab Puffs and Bar-B-Q Pork. The Crab Puffs were three times the size of anywhere else I’ve had them. All of the food was Fresh, Hot and Delicious. The wait staff were quick, friendly and answered any questions about different dishes. Chen’s also has a well stocked full service bar and lottery games.

I cannot recommend this place enough!! I got a take out order, ordered general tso’s shrimp, crab puffs, and a drink. I originally visited Chen’s down in Medford and saw there was a Salem location. Amazing!!! Will return to try the rest of the menu haha.

The marfar chicken tasted like my childhood and I am so here for it. I haven’t had any that good in my whole adult life. Except maybe when I made mom’s dip chicken. Everything else was on point, too.

Called ahead for takeout and was told about an hour. Left a little later and waited a bit when I got there, but I wasn’t in a hurry so it was all good. The girls up front were killing the game even though they were slammed. Apparently Chinese on Christmas Eve is a tradition shared by a ton of folks here in Salem. The wait was looonng, but so, so worth it. Everything tasted so fresh and was well seasoned and the shrimps were crispy without that stale taste the oil can sometimes get, which showed me an attention to detail and quality. And I genuinely appreciated the FOH young ladies not caving to the annoying woman who was butthurt about her takeout not being ready when she got there and attempted to passive-aggressively bully them into a discount(saying, “well, I GUESS I’ll pay for it, but what do you think we should do….? Because I DID call at 6:45…. I just don’t know what we should do here…”..It was obvious she was waiting for them to grovel and offer a discount or free food, but they never did, and good for them. They calmly explained to her that they had had a full restaurant on top of online and phone orders pouring in, and they were doing the best they could. She had the audacity to ask if they “felt like the people comong in to dine here are more important than those of us with to go orders?”, even though there was a healthy line of us also waiting for our takeout, we had been waiting much longer than her, yet we all managed to do so patiently and quietly without complaint. And because we did, the owner(?) threw in a ton of free stuff/discounts for the folks who had to wait a while and didn’t act like we were entitled to anything other than what we ordered. The girls both stayed pleasant and calm with her which was admirable given her crappy, condescending attitude so well done to them!! The food was FANTASTIC, some of the best and most flavorful Chinese I’ve ever had, and this will be my go-to spot from here on out. Well done, y’all. That was a crazy dinner service but you handled it like champs. Can’t wait til next time.
