The best gluten free meal I’ve had since celiacs diagnosis 5+ years ago. Kind and knowledgable staff. They have been doing gluten free for 15 years! I drove from way down southern RI just to eat here and I’ll happily do it again.
dedicated wok station. I’m so sensitive I get sick for two months from cross contamination and they didn’t make me sick. I gave up years ago trusting places that claim to take cross contamination seriously as chikfila and five guys glutened me more times than I could keep track of. I haven’t eaten out since unless it’s a dedicated gf establishment. Now I can have Chinese food again. Thank you, Cheng du staff!

Our very first time we wanted to know what all the talk was about so we decided to finally find out ourselves. Let me say it didn’t disappoint. Everything was so fresh along with representation on the items we had chosen was beautiful. Service was pleasant two ladies working with one another . We did feel rushed though as though flipping the table to the next was possibly important but we aren’t fast eaters . Can not wait to go back I’ve been thinking about the crab ragoons since having them . Now I know what all the buzz is about.

I came for a special occasion and I could not have been more happy with the how fast the food came out, the quality of the food and taste and the accommodations made by the chef for my meal. I ordered the half and half but requested my shrimp be made in a curry sauce. They happily obliged. We also ordered the house rice ( it was so good we took an additional order to go home with [because we finished the first order] along with left overs) and pepper steak. The steak was cooked perfectly. Very easy to chew and not “chewy”!
The finishing touch was our amazing waitress packaging up our food-to-go, so we didn’t have to.
This was my first time here and we will definitely be back… often!!

One of our favorite restaurants in Mansfield. May has a heart of gold and we love that she knows us by name…and our order by heart. We just need to sit down and she knows how to take care of us throughout the entire meal. My husband has been going to Cheng-Du a good 35 years (and me 13 years) and couldn’t think of having a delicious Chinese dinner without May or Cheng-Du. Highly recommended!!

This is my favorite Chinese food place. I would give it 6 stars if I could. Everything is great but we particularly like the General Gau’s Chicken here. Always crispy and not too much batter. Even the presentations are great. My kids love their chicken wings. They also do an amazing job with Gluten Free options. Almost every menu item can be made gluten free. Mai Tais are great too and you can order them to go.

Recently moved to the area and so happy to have found a great quality Chinese restaurant. Chicken and vegetable fried rice was delicious. Wide variety and large portion sizes, including on lunch menu. Very friendly service as well. Will definitely be back!

I’ve recently called to make a takeout order and was met with surprisingly impatient and rude service. Because of allergies I asked if the items could be packed in separate bags instead of acknowledging the request. The person on the phone said “I’m very busy” and when I explained it was for allergies, they told me to order the Chicken not the shrimp. Even after correcting the multiple times they kept insisting I get the chicken. I finally said it felt like I was bothering them and they again blamed how busy and loud it was before ending the call. I clearly confirmed my order was shrimp, but I receive chicken. This experience showed a complete disregard for the customer service and importantly for an allergy concern I am not returning.

My son has been gluten free due to celiac disease for 3 years. He hasn’t had Chinese food due to very limited options for gluten free Chinese food. The food was fantastic and they are very knowledgeable about celiac. It is pricey but worth it for a treat.

I’m really upset that I even have to write this, because my family and I usually love Cheng Du. The waitresses, hostesses, and food are amazing, and they have always treated us with nothing but kindness and professionalism. We absolutely do not want any of them to catch heat for this.
That said, our recent experience was completely inappropriate due to an old, white male bartender. I am a 24-year-old woman, and he made a sexually inappropriate comment involving me and my father, which was disturbing and crossed every possible boundary. He also made an unsolicited comment about how my mother “looks annoyed when my dad talks,” which wasn’t even true—he was clearly trying (and failing) to be funny.
This bartender was incessant with the inappropriate behavior all night and creepy. We were genuinely freaked out and didn’t know how to respond. The entire bar area was visibly cringing in silence while this was happening, which says a lot about how unacceptable his behavior was. Listen- I’m not even being dramatic or hyperbolic, like, it was that weird.
This was atrocious, unprofessional, and deeply inappropriate, especially toward a family just trying to enjoy dinner. It’s heartbreaking because we love this restaurant and the women who work there so much—but this experience completely overshadowed what should have been a great night.
I truly hope management takes this seriously, because behavior like this should never be tolerated.
Again, I can’t reiterate enough how much we LOVE every other staff member at this restaurant, and the food. This one single man was just like…seriously a super strange issue.
