Chelo’s Hometown Bar & Grille – East Providence

Social Profile:

All the way back in 1955, the four sons of an immigrant millworker decided to take a chance. They opened a restaurant on Cumberland’s bustling Mendon Road with nothing to their names other than a shared dream and vision – fresh and local ingredients, prompt and friendly service, all to be had at an unbeatable value. While times change, our values don’t. As a third generation, family owned and operated company, our food is still made fresh in our commissary 7 days a week and delivered to each of our locations daily . Same ingredients, same recipes, same classic food that Rhode Islanders have come to know and love since our grandfathers first opened our doors nearly 70 years ago!

Laid-back, family-owned Rhode Island outlet serving salads, burgers & other homestyle food.

We loved everything! Probably one of the best dining experiences we have had in recent times.

I had an excellent experience at this location of Chelo’s, the atmosphere was nostalgic. I was especially thankful for my familys server Gabe, he was knowledgeable and very thoughtful. He made sure we were all satisfied with our food!
Thank you Chelo’s for a wonderful experience!

This location is cleaner and better run than some of the other locations. The food is average, but the service is good and the kitchen is pretty quick, you won’t have to wait long for your meal. Food presentation is good. The parking lot gets quite full, and it’s not easy to get out of there.

Best clam cakes in RI. Our server was fantastic. We ordered an XL lobster roll to share with eggplant fries, they split it into two plates for us. Lots of meat on our rolls. The eggplant fries were delicious. It was a great addition. You can never go wrong with $2.99 margaritas and $1.99 drafts. We got the pumpkin head beer to try it and it comes with a sugar caramel rim. Their pot pie is always spot on.

This place is always 5 stars. The bartenders are always friendly and observant. Eating out with celiac disease is nearly impossible but Chelos is always on point. Everytime I order the general manager always comes to greet me and guarantees the kitchen staff will take extra precautions to make sure there is no cross contamination. $2.99 margaritas all day every day doesn’t hurt either.

It seems all new and updated compared to their other locations.
Very clean, new restrooms here. Auto sinks but they also had the temp on the side if you wanted to change how hot it is.
This is one of the nicer Chelos locations. Nice bar staff. I liked everything I had. I think it was called a Southwest Burger. They cooked it to my preferred temp and it was great.
Semi close to a bar stop so it’s accessible.

7/23 Chelos of East Providence, RI. Highly recommended as a well designed and easy place to have whatever you want. Bar was packed at 2pm as we arrived. Seated in Addie’s section and she was outstandingly good with her wit and banter. Margarita was excellent and food was tasty, fresh and cooked just right. My fish, grilled Red Snapper had a tangy citrus sauce on top of a bed of chili lime sauced rice. Best I’ve ever had. Others had couple of grilled chicken salads and a grilled chicken Cesar salad. We finished the meal off with a shared Banana berry Pie, omg.
Restrooms were clean and parking was easy. Good overall experience!!

I am sure that I reviewed this location in past years.
This occasion we were seated up in the front corner window section. I like that spot. Watching the pouring showers outside was fun.
And muted the sounds of other guests.
My cheesecake dessert was long in coming. Supposedly the bar area had scooped up the prior cake… causing the delay. Lol
Too often in the past we have been seated in booths to the back of the dining area which has a cafeteria like feeling and and is much darker.
This is my least favorite version of the Chelo chain even though it is the closest to my home and shop, just a couple miles east.
I usually go out of my way to the Providence/Pawtucket line location for a better atmosphere.

I had the Mets Mushroom Burger and my friend had the Bacon Burger. Both were cooked perfectly as we asked and were very delicious. We also happen to be there during happy hour so we enjoyed some chips and salsa as well as an order of mozzarella sticks.
