Hidden gem in the truest form. Great Food and coffee in an inconspicuous place you wouldn’t believe. Food made fresh and really gives the homemade flavor and feeling. Perfectly made omelets ( farmers in picture).Excellent pancakes and French toast made to perfection. Reasonably priced and worth the value. Not an obvious/conventional location so navigating could be challenging with gps. Highly recommended

Will definitely return! Our Thursday breakfast date landed us at Chef Vargas!! I am so glad it did. The establishment is quaint and feels like a special find in Elkins Park. The food was delicious. The menu selection is vast and has many options… I am hoping to return to try something else.
The host / server was welcoming and friendly. Thank you.

I came here on Saturday May 21 at 11:30 am and was seated immediately. The food was delicious and our waitress was kind. I highly recommend the Farmer’s Meat because it’s savory, gives you a good portion of everything, and it’s a reasonable price. I also highly recommend the drink, it was very refreshing. The only two cons would be the ambiance and environment of the restaurant that day and the tables. It was not my first time coming here but it has been awhile. Children were running around everywhere and it was super loud, so it was not as peaceful as it was supposed to be. Similarly, the tables were way too small for everything to fit properly alongside with the utensils and condiments. It just felt very squished together and we were practically side by side with other table which made it very uncomfortable. Nonetheless, the food was amazing like always and the service was still great. All in all, 4 out of 5 stars for the parking, service, food, and price.

Quick summary: Poor portions. Male Chef has poor customer service skills. Over priced for the portions (at least for our meals) . Food comes out cold. Poor ventilation in the kitchen.
The first time we came here was pleasant (Food was great, customer service was great). Every time after that has been the opposite. Shout out to the two female waitress that at least know how to speak to their customers. I’ve noticed that the more crowded they are, the smaller amount of food we get and the poorer service as well. If you can’t take the heat, get out the kitchen. Today I let the waiter know about an issue with my breakfast and he just walked by the kitchen without letting them know so I had to approach the chef myself . When I did, the male chef had ZERO knowledge of proper customer service. I got my side when I was done my pancake so I sent it away but I was STILL charged for it. Not to mention, people that were seated after my table got their food out before our food came out. When some of our food did come out, it was cold. There was poor to no ventilation so it was smoky, overwhelmingly.
They charged $3.00 for blueberries, .75 for whip and charged me two sides of potatoes that came out when we were done and a coffee that we got half way through our meal.

Chef Vargas is a delightful hidden gem in the Elkins Park area. I treated my family to brunch and everything was delicious. Chicken and Waffles: waffles thick and fluffy, chicken crispy flavorful and tender. Apple Cider Donut French Toast: unique twist on French toast. It was soft, sweet, and delicious with savory cuts of bacon in between. The whip cream and berries and perfectly with the apple cider flavor. It is a small dish…just FYI. Sweet Potato Breakfast Hash: twist on hash using sweet potatoes. The potatoes were tender, peppers blended in well with the eggs. The Barbacoa was tender, delicious, and added a uniqueness to a dish. Pancakes were the softness and fluffiest I ever tasted. I will definitely be back to try more and the tacos.

It was a little difficult to find. Just go inside and ask the person at the desk. Went here for brunch. The food was really good. They give you big portions and the food is all seasoned very well! Service was great too! I will definitely go back.

My only complaint is that this place was hard to find. I drove around way too long trying to find it. I eventually had to call them to get help. Better signage would help to make the process easier.
The address listed will take you to Elkins Park House. Enter the apartment complex from Spring Ave, turn left and park in lot A. The restaurant is through the double doors up the flight of steps pictured.
The restaurant is cozy and clean. The servers were very pleasant.
It’s cash only but they have an ATM available.
