So impressed with this restaurant! Employees were all friendly and welcoming, our Server, Morgan, was attentive and very accommodating. We had a chance to meet Chef Rene, he treated us like we were longtime friends! Chef’s Father is a Sweetheart! Had us laughing!
We dined on Beef Stroganoff, Scallops Pernod, and Shrimp Alfredo. All 3 dishes were Fantastic.
The Fontinella and Spinach soup (special) was out of this world!
Thank you Chef Rene and your Staff! We will come back on our next trip Up North!

Had an awesome experience here. Hostess was very friendly and welcoming. We forgot to make reservations but they were able to still accommodate us. Food was excellent. Top notch. If you want fine dining in this area, this is the place to go!

Great dinner at Chef Rene’s tonight to celebrate Ted’s 70th birthday! It started with a glass of wine at the bar listening to a husband/wife duo from Brownsville, TX! Super entertaining and great musicians. Then onto dinner.
Homer, Chef Rene’s 95 yo father was a hit. He smiled and greeted our table with these cute Iranian finger puppets!
Ted had a beautiful filet and lobster. I had the special which was Seafood Chippolo. It was packed with bountiful lobster, crab, scallops, and shrimp.
Then they came out and sang Happy Birthday!
We will be back!
I hope and pray that chippolo will be on their menu again. We’ve been across the LA, MS and Fl coast and nothing was near
as delicious!

Tried Chef Rene’s for the 1st time and would definitely go back. Started with a beer while our table was being prepared. Good beer selection at a very reasonable price. Salad was very good, great blue cheese dressing. Went with the Ribeye and it was fantastic. Only thing I didn’t love was the wild rice for my side. Said it came with ham, which sounded odd but intriging, but thought I’d give it a try. Wasn’t my thing, but that’s on me for trying it. Wasn’t the best choice to pair with a ribeye. Wife had fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp and scallops, which was fantastic, as well. Server was very friendly and guided us in the right direction, when we had questions. Will definitely be back.

They had me at the green beans. We’ve been vacationing in the greater Minocqua area for 28 years, yet this was our first visit to Chef Rene’s. We will be back. A supper club whose menu is on steroids, their menu has entree selections that everyone can like. The scallops were fresh and perfectly sauteed. The pan fried walleye was as well. Even the salad dressings were fresh and flavorful (perhaps homemade?). The service was very good – no shortage of staff. And who can’t appreciate the simple joy of Homer greeting you at your table with one of his special finger warmers?

Called last minute for an 8 PM reservation—grateful to get in. Arrived early and told to wait at the bar despite open tables. Bartender was curt and disengaged; a little friendliness would’ve gone a long way. Once seated, we waited 25 + minutes before anyone came by—had to flag a server. Food was good (the green beans with shallots and walnuts were excellent), but portions were small for the price. The waitress who finally helped us was kind, but overall service was poor to adequate. Great flavors, weak hospitality

This review is largely based on our experience in the restaurant. If it was based on the bar, it wouldn’t be nearly as positive. Our waitress was great. Our food came quickly and was quite tasty. The dining room has a warm vibe but is very loud. I guess I understand what people like about this place but I can’t say I’ll go back. Our first impression started in the bar and had we not had dinner reservations, that’s probably where it would have ended.

Terrible experience from the beginning. The hostess didn’t greet us, just walked us to the table without a spoken word. Server was excellent. My ribs were burnt to a crisp and dry as the bones the meat was burnt to. Requested a different slab and out comes an enforcer woman I had never met and was told that was how they cook them and I could order something else but no matter what I had to pay for the burnt ribs. My wife’s walleye was full of bones. Terrible attitude and food.

Chef Rene’s is a wonderful Up North Supper Club! They take reservations, waited about 10 minutes at the bar long enough to have a hand muddled old fashioned. Started off with spinach artichoke dip, very good loads of spinach in the dip. The warm bread was delicious. Choice of soup or salad with entree Parmesan Peppercorn salad was very good. The steaks were delicious, full of flavor a little on the rare side but delicious. This is a good stop when you are in the Northwoods.

Chef René has serious cooking skill. Every dish we had hit the mark. We were blown away by his Beef Wellington which was perfectly cooked. And who outside of the Midwest would guess that Northern Wisconsin has the best seafood, but the lobster Newberg and seafood crepe here will convince you of that. Very very good food here. My only critique would be to expand the wine list to add some stuff deserving of this caliber of food.
