THe DIva Dvine Here, yes, I add pictures.I surely do so.You don’t have to always just go off of words but I would love you to read this review all the way through but enjoy an Eyes Full of those pictures.I’m pushing.. Okay, so many don’t know me, but for those that would love an opportunity to share in on some fantastical delicious comfort food. I mean, real deal, comfort food, take my advice head over. Sample , some of which ever item you’d like at the Queen Chef Marilyn’s restaurant.. i will not lead you astray. I have been patronizing this business for over 2 decades. And not one time if I had a regret and yes, I am well-traveled as far as food restaurants and the fact that I know how to check it up on my own. I have to give my props to those that can prepare meals that, you know, you can prepare for yourself and it will taste the same way and you’re like, yes, this is authentic. This is on point. This is worth paying for this is something you wouldn’t mind putting into your body without having all these extra concerns. If whether or not you know, it’s going to cause some type of you know, irritations or intolerances, so I definitely recommend highly. To tre.nAt yourself if you haven’t already..

Amazing staff, friendly and patient. As for the food, it’s just okay. It used to be amazing.I’ve been going here since it opened. I used to drive across l a county for food at Marilyn’s. Now, it’s not so great. The portions are smaller, the prices are outrageous. Their oxtail side is $18! That will get you what they describe as three large and too small pieces. In my experience, I’ve always ended up with mostly fat and bone. So now that the price is SO high, I would never order it again. I know the cost of everything has gone up exponentially in the. Recent past, but their prices have been high for years.

This is why I have such a huge problem with soul food.Restaurants. i can’t figure out why it’s always significantly more expensive than the average neighborhood restaurant. I got smothered chicken, and I want to say it was about $6 for a breast. And I think the other pieces were $4. To make matters worse, the breast that I purchased was dry, even though it was smothered in gravy!

Frankly, the food doesn’t really taste home cooked, anymore, it tastes like packaged gravy and instant rice. Now i need a new spot. Oh, well! Nothing can be great forever. I’m very sad about writing this review, especially for a Black+woman owned business. The economy is bad, and it’s going to get significantly worse. I think small businesses should be really cognizant of the fact they are competing for a smaller pie of consumer dollars. This means that small businesses should be figuring out how to survive. Maybe your profit margin has to shrink a little when the economy’s rough, and then you make it up when everything bounces back. It’s not a sustainable business model to deliver less value at a higher price, especially when you made your name and built your business reputation on delivering more value at a lower price.

I saw the long line outside, and did some research on this place while I was finishing up some work with a client. This place is really a local favorite and I can see why it is so popular. The flavors are really wonderful and probably what you would expect from an authentic home cooked meal from your favorite family chef. We had the yams, greens and meatloaf. Normally I don’t like meatloaf all that much but this was some of the best I ever had. Will come back when I am in the area again to try additional items. The pictures from the other side of the counter doesn’t do this place justice. Go for yourself and experience this food. So much yum.

I have been coming here for 20 years! I could almost cry how much I love this food. It reminds me of a grandmothers cooking! Feels like it’s homemade with love! Great vibes from the people and incredible soul food! Anything you get will be tasty! Don’t forget the cornbread!

2005 is when I started eating at Chef Marilyn’s. She hired Black people and the food was ALWAYS delicious. So much so, my German friend would get excited when I offered to drive from the San Fernando Valley to Los Angeles to pick us up some plates!

Fast forward to 2025. My granddaughter wanted food from here, so I went in to order.

The mac and cheese was dry, the candied yams looked straight from a can and the chicken looked overcooked. I almost didn’t order.

I hope Chef Marilyn gets her supporting staff of Black people back.

Far too often, I see these “Black owned” businesses allow outsiders into their kitchens and the food quality DECLINES.

Bludsoe’s BBQ is another example of that.

Please, get back to 2005 quality. NOBODY could touch Chef Marilyn’s food, back then.

Being from the South, I have to give this place 2-3 stars on the southern cuisine. I do not recommend getting the fried chicken as it was kinda fatty and undercooked. The Mac & cheese was a letdown as well no real flavor. But on the flip side, the collard greens were very good so that’s my recommendation if you decide to try them.

I used to love this place but the quality has gone down. I was charged for 4 cornbread stuffings, I only ordered and received 1. I was also charged $15.00 for oxtails, which I didn’t order. I ASKED for oxtail gravy for my suffing. Then my husband went back in and purchased a sweet potato pie (mind you I purchased this food the on 11-22-23, look at the top of the receipt) and the damn pie began to mold in one day??? I WILL NEVER PATRONIZE THIS ESTABLISHMENT AGAIN.
