Wow! We had garlic cheese bread, Margarita pizza, and pepperoni pizza! Generally with a lot of places, pizzas all taste the same, each pizza and bread had very different and perfect individual flavor! Crust was cooked perfectly, very good place!

Some of the best pizza in Central Illinois! If you’re familiar with this area, you will know that there are plenty of places that are doing bar style, thin crust square cut pizza. Cheese Nuts is NOT one of those places. They are bringing greatness back to the pizza scene, brick oven style.

We ordered the Snow White and the Poisoned Apple and the Speziato. Our first impression was “This is YUGE!” I was completely sold after the first bite. The flavor profile that the owner, Kyle, has masterfully developed bring great depth to the pizza. Fresh ingredients perfectly placed!

Our server was friendly, prompt, and knowledgeable and the decor was inviting. One thing I don’t like about trying new places is when you spend your hard earned money and have a lackluster experience. Cheese Nuts did not disappoint! Before we left the parking lot we were already planning our return trip.

Best Pizza that is ever crossed my lips. I would have to say you have not tried any pizza like cheese nuts pizza. The sauces are all hand crafted, along with the pizzas being crafted before being put into a brick oven and all cooked over a wood fire. And when we’re not even talking about the pizza the wings those are also cooked over that would fire in a cast iron pot and they are cooked and sizzled to perfection. Everyone should try their appetizer cheese sticks. They come with marina and a side of their own hand crafted Speziato sauce. Which is a buffalo like sauce made up by the owners. Over all excellence.

I will admit, getting here was a hike and the surrounding area wasn’t the most attractive but man, these guys have it down to a T. I was informed of this place, believe it or not, by Facebook. Found his hours, his location, and even scrolled through the posts on his page that explain the popularity of the place. Took a cruise on out to Cheese Nuts on a Saturday evening. The parking lot was soo full patrons began making spots. I followed suit and stood in the large line at the door. To my suprise, we were in the door and seated within 5 minutes for a party of 3. The interior could use some sprucing up but the ambiance was such that the patrons didn’t care what it looked like. They were all there for one thing: really good pizza. We were seated with a packed house within 5 minutes and then drinks came in another 5, which was understandable for the few servers vs. the packed house.

Our first go around, we thought we would try to order a well-rounded amount of food that would give us an idea of how the cooks are and how the food is. We ordered the cheese sticks as an appetizer and followed that with (3) different types of pizza (only one pictured below). The first order was the medium (12oz) special for that weekend. This was a spruced up pepperoni pizza with mascarpone. The second was another medium but split half-and-half: The Dirty Dog and the Snow White. I ordered this for two reasons. First: these are so drastically different that if they can get the portioning down, I would be amazed. Secondly, the options for pizzas all read soo well that it was difficult to choose. The Dirty Dog features bacon, garlic, bbq chicken, onions, mozzarella cheese and about 4 other things that i couldn’t imagine ever ordering on a pizza together. The Snow White was more simple, with a blend of mozzarella and feta cheese accompanied by a handful of tasteful options.

At first glance, the pizza looked and smelled like a brick oven pizza; burnt edges, irregular shape, well mixed and cooked toppings(borderline charred). The pizza also had very little grease pooling up on the toppings like you see with many thin crust pizza joints. The first bite is essentially the lack of pictures. After we dug into the first slice, pictures or reviews took a back seat. Between 3 people, we ate more than we typically do and still had half a pizza to take home (thank the lord). The dough was very mild and in my opinion, exactly how it should be. Nothing too fancy, nothing over the top and nothing that would conflict with other toppings. The pizza and toppings were well proportioned and the toppings were tastefully placed. The cheese blended incredibly well. And if you need that added kick, all the standard offerings (salt pepper, hot sauce, etc.) is offered on each table. The best part is that the gentleman working the oven has this down to a science and that much is clear. I continually looked at other pizzas both before and after we got ours. The consistency was pretty good across the tables.

All in all, yes, I will be back, hopefully very, very soon. Its shocking to me that this pizza joint isn’t featured anywhere. I’ve been to nearly every pizza place in central Illinois and I must admit, this is the absolute BEST pizza. If you haven’t already tagged this in your “Want to go” folder, this is your chance. I can only imagine this place will get much, much busier. Keep up all the great work Cheese Nuts. See you soon.

Review for Cheese Nuts Brick Oven Pizzeria in Junction City Peoria Heights. For this latest food adventure I was accompanied by my wife and stepson. On entering this place can be a little confusing on if you sit down and wait for a server or go up and order. So just to clear it up sit down if you are dining in. The service is great and really friendly we even got greeted by who I think was the owner since he was enjoying some Ice Cream from Cyd’s and walking around like he owned the joint, he also checked on us a few times and was a really friendly and not intrusive like some can be. Out server was great she was helpful in picking what to try and even showed great patience waiting for us to decide.
Starters- We went with the Garlic Cheese Sticks you have the option of 8oz or 11oz and can add bacon for a dollar. We got the 11oz with bacon not really know what we were in for. Think thing may as well have been a medium cheese pizza server with a little cup of buffalo sauce and Pizza sauce. This Garlic cheese “sticks” was amazing there was so much flavor and the add bacon was worth it. My family and I really enjoyed it. The only complaint was my wife hates cold pizza sauce and wishes they served it warm. But from us it’s a must try.
Main Dish- Up first is my Stepson he ordered off the Starters and went with the Wood Fried Wings – with a choice of 5 flavors and 10 or 20 wings. He went with 10 Garlic Parmesan Buffalo wings. Served in a paper boat with foil the wings had a like char on them from the woodfire, with sauce and covered with Parmesan cheese they looked and smelled amazing. At first bite i could tell i would be hard pressed to have him relinquish one for me to try. Luckily he filled up on some Garlic Sticks and couldn’t finish all 10 wings. These wings are crispy and packed with flavor. If you like wings these are a must try the woodfire adds another flavor to wings.
Next up is the Wife and myself after talking it out a bunch she convinced me to get the Diggle- Any four pizzas on one 20” dough Who will win? John Diggle Never Fails! Any four of your favorite Specialty /BYO Pizzas on one crust. So the Wife and I each picked two. “Nuts Bout’ Meat”-”Six Cheese Chipotle Alfredo”- “Snow White and the Poisoned Apple”- and Spain in My A!!. This pizza was a Wonderful Monster each quadrant was really good with that woodfire crust. All the ingredients seemed to be high quality since they all tasted great on their own.
The Damage- This place is about mid range on prices nothing you look at on the menu will be cheap or break the bank. For the three of us two sodas, two starters, and a Giant pizza with three overfilled stomachs and lots of leftovers Bill weighed in at $72.14 and could have easily feed 2 more with that pizza.
Cheese Nuts is a must try place we you get a chance. I know we will be back and probably pretty soon.

The pizzas were delicious. Staff was friendly. Service was quick. Would have given 5 stars if the sanitation was a little better but not enough to keep me from returning.

I drove up from downtown Peoria during my lunch to try this pizza and was not disappointed. Having recently traveled to Italy, I’ve had my share of pretty amazing pizza and Cheese Nuts nails the brick oven taste. I got two slices and a soda. The cheese is bright and just stringy enough. The meats were flavorful but not overpowering. The true star of the show is the dough and the fire. Just perfect flavor and texture. Fluffy inside, crispy outside. A little char let’s you know it’s real deal.

I’ve been back twice already and envision going back again soon.

I have nothing but amazing things to say! The restaurant size is perfect. The food is incredibly delicious and unique for this area. The staff are all friendly and welcoming. Although the pricing is a bit high, it’s worth it when you get to know the owner, his family, and their story… I didn’t just pay for a meal… I supported a dream! Support this business, and go NUTS for Cheese Nuts Brickoven Pizzeria!

Hands down best pizza in Central Illinois! As a “pizza connoisseur” who’s eaten all forms of pizza from sea to shining sea and a handful of foreign countries I can tell you this is the real deal (I’ve got to throw those credentials out there lol). Stoped by when they first opened and had a great experience and good pizza. Came back a few weeks later and had some of the best pizza I’ve had in years. The owner is in the kitchen making pies and his passion shows. He informed me they are always taking customers input and improving. The only thing I can compare this pizza to in the area that some might know would be the old VOP’s (the train) wood fired pizza from back in the day and in all honesty Cheese Nuts is a notch above that. If you’re in the area you’ve got to check them out you won’t be disappointed.
