One word, WOW! We stopped by after a day at the Illinois Railway Museum. The food is well prepared, quick and very tasty. Our server was very friendly and helpful (our first time here). The portions are abundant. Everyone took home leftovers. Besides American favorites, there is some Bavarian influence on the menu
as they have bratwurst and a variety of schnitzel dishes on the menu. I’ll definitely be back! Great option if you are in the area. One caution is that seating is limited in the winter when the out door area is closed

We ordered from the Oktoberfest menu. While they were short staffed with only one server, she was very cheerful and accommodating to our group. The salad was cold and crisp and the German combination plate with rouladen, sauerbraten, spaetzle and red cabbage was delicious. Cant wait to go back and try another dish. Reasonable prices too.

This place was exactly what we needed! We went for food after visiting the holiday train at the IL Railway Museum, and it was perfect. The food was delicious, big portions, fast service and a cosy atmosphere. Kid friendly with a changing table in the women’s bathroom. Would definitely recommend.

I must say I really thought that this place was going to be a lot better, I believe that three across-the-board does make sense because it was very mediocre. The pretzel probably was the best part, the drinks were okay and they definitely need to update the recipe for the Rockefeller, they absolutely weren’t on point.

What a great little place. On a whim we decided we wanted to have chicken for dinner. It was later on Sunday, so I looked up places close by. The Chicken Schnitzel pictures on Google hooked us. The food was amazing. We had the seared Ahi for an appetizer. We both got the Chicken Schnitzel. It was huge and delicious, and the potatoes and onions under it were outstanding. Next time, maybe the Hunters Schnitzel. The picture is of the leftovers. I forgot to take a picture before eating it.

Pretty standard small town bar. The burger tasted like many other pub burgers I’ve had. The cheese curds were decent as well. The real star of the meal was the October fest beer they had that was imported from Germany that was full of flavor. The waitress Sue Ann was friendly

Avoid Checker’s II until they fix their kitchen system. Our party of four waited a long time for food that never came because the kitchen had difficulties. Checker’s II was not crowded; there were only a few folks inside and a few parties outside. We think take-out orders were prioritized over our service (we saw this first-hand) and this was confirmed by the staff. One hour was our limit – we said we were disappointed, we left without dining, and we went somewhere else. We won’t be back after this disastrous service. To the restaurant: you shouldn’t offer the statement “well, you see the (small) size of our kitchen” as an excuse for poor service. Additional note: there was another group outside who also complained and who also left when the food didn’t arrive. This was systematic, not an isolated incident.
