The service is great. The waiters and waitresses are very helpful and friendly, which is why they deserve a 25% tip. The atmosphere is okay, and the food is better than I expected. Even though I’m not a vegan, I still enjoyed it. The prices are competitive but not inexpensive. For four people, you’ll spend over $110 for lunch, not including tip—especially if you’re giving a 25% tip. So if you’re looking for something inexpensive, this is not the place. However, if you’re looking for good service and decent food, this is a great place to meet up. I have to say, there isn’t another Vietnamese vegan restaurant in the DMV that outperforms this place, at least that I know of.

Even though I’m not vegetarian, I really enjoyed the food here. Everything tasted fresh and well seasoned, and the dishes stood on their own instead of feeling like substitutes for something else. The location is convenient with plenty of parking, so it’s easy to stop by without planning ahead. Service was polite and fast, and the whole visit felt smooth and relaxed. A place I’ll gladly come back to.

Mr. T and his staff are awesome! Very welcoming and friendly.

Don’t usually get vegetarian food, however, Mr. T recommended the heavenly fried rice and I’m definitely going again to get more.

Very flavorful, each bite has a bit of savory and sweetness to it.

The Vietnamese iced coffee is also very strong!

If you’re craving flavorful Vietnamese vegetarian food, Chay Vegetarian is a must-try! We came during dinner time when the restaurant gets pretty busy, but service was still fast, friendly, and attentive.

Their popular bún đậu mắm tôm did not disappoint — everything tasted incredibly good, fresh, and full of authentic Vietnamese flavors. Portions here are huge, which makes the already affordable prices even better. We ordered two appetizers, a Diet Coke, and three large main dishes, and our total was only $85. Such a great deal for the amount of food and quality you get!

The restaurant itself isn’t very big, but they can still comfortably seat a group of 5–6 people. The menu focuses mainly on Vietnamese vegetarian dishes, and everything we tried felt thoughtfully prepared and super satisfying.

Definitely recommend stopping by if you want delicious, generous, and affordable vegetarian Vietnamese eats!

When you first walk in, the restaurant is so beautifully decorated with plants, calming colors & lighting, and beautiful murals! Every single staff member is so warm and friendly! Service was very fast and the restaurant is so clean! Then the food!! Not only is the presentation impeccable, looking like a piece of art, the flavors of each dish I got to try are so incredible you’ll want to eat the whole thing in one sitting even with the generous portions they give!! I can’t wait to come back to Chay!!

Foods are so delicious, service staff is very friendly, love the decoration of the restaurant with the lotus flowers painting. The owner came to our table and greet us on Lunar New Year.

Simple but delicious and nourishing—vegan food doesn’t get much better than this. The portions were amazing for the price and the ownership very obviously runs this business with a lot of love and thoughtfulness. We were visiting from out of state but will make it a point to return when we visit again.

Delicious food, and honestly so hard to tell it’s vegan/vegetarian. It’s easy to get to, with plenty of free parking right outside the restaurant, and very friendly staff. The setting is casual, comfortable, and relaxing. Everything I’ve tried has been fantastic. We spoke to the owner for a few minutes and he emphasized not sacrificing quality. The “meats” are unbelievably real, and one would never know it’s vegetable based. This time I tried the Shaky “Beef”, with brown rice; I could not tell the “beef” wasn’t beef. Crazy, but delicious. My son had the Thit Kho Chay (Chay clay pot), which was also delicious.

What an amazing experience and wonderful flavors, especially for a vegan/vegetarian restaurant. I’m not a vegan nor vegetarian but am not opposed to a meal without meat; however it’s generally not my go-to. But we tried this restaurant while we were out and immediately decided it’s a keeper. It’s very accessible with plenty of parking and sits in a very nice building with a pleasant interior. The staff are all very friendly and welcoming. My wife and I started with a couple of appetizers to go with our meal. Both were great, with my wife preferential to the steamed tapioca dumplings (A7), and me the shredded bi chay rolls (A4). What a positive start. For our main meal my wife went with the crispy “fish” with mango (M5) (and she couldn’t tell it wasn’t really fish) while I went with a safe bet and got the chay vermicelli bowl (N7). Both entrees were wonderful. The quality of the food is high while the price is very reasonable for the portions.

Loved this vegetarian Vietnamese spot! The food was amazing, and the service made the experience even better. The staff was super friendly, attentive, and gave thoughtful recommendations that really added to our visit.
We tried a few appetizers based on their suggestions – the Chay Nuggets were decent, but the Grilled Chay Rolls were excellent! (Fun note: someone at the next table ordered three plates of those, so clearly they’re a hit.)

For mains, we had the Banh Mi sandwich, spicy noodle soup, vegan crispy fried noodles, shaky beef, and Thai basil chicken — and honestly, every single dish was packed with flavor. You can tell they really care about how everything tastes.

Dessert was a bit of a miss for us — the mango sticky rice felt a bit dry and the Thai tea was just okay — but the food overall more than made up for it.

The space itself is cozy with lovely decor, and there’s plenty of parking. They don’t take reservations and the dining area is small, so be prepared for a little wait — but it’s totally worth it.

Definitely going back, and we’re excited about their new location opening in Chantilly around Thanksgiving!
