Had such a fantastic meal at Chatti by Regi Mathew. If you’re looking for authentic Kerala cuisine, this place absolutely delivers.
Our server was incredibly knowledgeable and made the whole experience even better.
I wish I had asked her name because every recommendation she made was spot on.

We started with their lassi, which had such a unique flavor profile different from the usual but really refreshing. The guava mocktail was good but really felt like something I can buy from any store
For appetizers, the Quilon shrimp were an absolute banger!!!! perfectly spiced and packed with flavor. The tender jackfruit cutlet was also delicious, crispy on the outside and beautifully seasoned inside.
For the main course, we had the fish curry with cassava, red rice, and some puri, and it was just phenomenal. The curry had deep, rich flavors and everything paired together perfectly.
We wrapped up the meal with the chef’s special coconut pudding, which was the perfect ending, light, comforting, and full of coconut flavor. Not too sweet but just right amount of sweetness.

Overall, an amazing experience with great food and thoughtful service. Definitely a MUST VISIT
if you want a true taste of Kerala.

Made reservations for lunch and were seated in a comfortable 4-person table. Our server Ethan was friendly and welcoming!

The restaurant setup itself felt pretty upscale. Comfortable seating, well lit, and noise levels on the lower end.

Our order consisted of Malabar Mutton ($18), Breadfruit Fry ($14), and a Tawa-grilled Toddy shop style Pomfret ($28), as recommeded by Ethan. Apps/Touchings set the bar very high, because they were extremely delicious.

Curries further extended that experience, with the Raw Mango Curry with Kingfish ($29) hitting the flavor profile out of the park! Coconut milk curry flavor with fish is a match made in heaven and this tradditional Mallu classic does not disappoint at all.

The vegetarian Black Chickpea Curry ($24) also hits the spot and went extremely well with Puttu ($9). The filter coffee pudding ($12) was ok – on the milkier side, but balanced on sweetness.

Food and service were excellent and we were told that Regi Mathew (the owner) is a serial restaurateur with a handful of restaurants primarily in Kerala, with expansion plans in the UK! We wish the team the best!

When craving Mallu food, Chatti will be our obvious choice and recommendation to go to. Yes, the menu is expensive, but the setup, ambiance, and food is prefect for a celebratory occassion!

Exceptional food and service.
I’ve always loved Kerala Syrian Christian cuisine, and the menu here is beautifully inspired by it. Chef Regi is incredibly warm and polite, and you can immediately sense his passion for the food in the way he talks about his recipes.

We tried a wide variety of dishes, and my favorites were the Rasa Vada, Kottuvadi drink, and Cloud Pudding. The amuse-bouche and palate cleansers were also thoughtfully crafted mix of flavors.

The decor is minimal and Kerala inspired, music is soothing, presentation is top notch.

An elevated, soulful take on South Indian cuisine

Chatti by Reji Mathew is a standout experience that beautifully redefines South Indian cuisine. Chef Reji Mathew brings incredible depth, nostalgia, and refinement to every dish—honoring tradition while presenting it in a truly modern, thoughtful way.

The flavors are bold yet balanced, with each dish telling a story rooted in Kerala’s culinary heritage. From the intricate spice layering to the impeccable presentation, it’s clear that every detail has been intentionally crafted. The food feels soulful and comforting, yet elevated enough to feel special and memorable.

The ambiance complements the cuisine perfectly—warm, elegant, and inviting—making it ideal for both intimate dinners and celebratory occasions. Service is attentive and knowledgeable, adding to the overall sense of care and hospitality.

Chatti isn’t just a restaurant; it’s a culinary journey. Easily one of the most exciting and authentic Indian dining experiences in the city.
Highly recommended.

We had a truly memorable dining experience at Chatti Restaurant. Our meal began with a selection of appetizers—Cochin Calamari, Toddy Shop Beef Fry, and Chilli Roasted Calamari—each one packed with authentic flavors and cooked to perfection.

The main course was equally impressive. The Ramapuram Chicken Curry, Mutton Curry, and Quilon Coconut Prawns stood out for their depth of flavor, richness, and exceptional attention to detail. Dessert was a delightful finale, with the Cloud Pudding and Filter Coffee Pudding offering unique, indulgent flavors. The cocktails were excellent as well, especially the standout Kandhari, which was perfectly balanced and refreshing.

A special mention goes to owner and chef Reji Mathew, whose culinary talent truly shines. It was a pleasure meeting him, especially as he is a fan of my wife Sajini from the Malayalam TV sitcom Akkarakazhchakal.

The restaurant’s ambience is warm, elegant, and spacious, enhancing the overall dining experience. The facility is excellent, featuring a dedicated second floor for private dining that can comfortably accommodate around 75 guests.

Overall, Chatti Restaurant offers an outstanding dining experience—from food and drinks to ambience and service. Highly recommended.

Chatti is a fantastic spot with great drinks. My husband and I really enjoyed the meal, especially the tasty banana flower fritters.
I tried the breadfruit curry with parotta for the first time—it was delicious and incredibly tender. My husband loved the “toddy shop style” lobster, jackfruit cutlets, beef roast, and soft hoppers. The only letdown was the jackfruit biryani; the fruit felt raw and undercooked, and it lacked flavor. Despite that, the food and atmosphere were good enough that we’ll definitely go back.

Chatti is a wonderful place for unique, authentic Kerala dishes. The food was truly delicious, and what I loved the most was the beautiful presentation of each dish.
This was a mom-and-son visit, and we ordered fish cutlet, porotta, beef fry, Trivandrum chicken fry, fish raw mango curry, and cloud pudding. Everything we ordered was excellent, but our absolute favorites were the fish cutlet (the best fish cutlet I have ever had), the Trivandrum fish fry, and the cloud pudding—the yummiest dessert and a must-try!!!!

Visited The Chatti Indian Restaurant in NYC and loved how different the food felt. The menu highlights Kerala-style South Indian cuisine, with flavors I hadn’t tried before. Everything we ordered was delicious and well balanced.

The ambience is warm and inviting, calm, cozy, and perfect for a relaxed meal. Service was attentive and the overall vibe felt premium yet comfortable.

One small thing to note: a 20 percent gratuity was automatically added for our party of four. We were told it was due to Christmas Eve, which was a bit unexpected.

Overall, a great spot to experience authentic Kerala food in NYC.
