We celebrated my husband’s birthday here, and the food was absolutely amazing. The space is a bit cozy and intimate, and while there is a bar, it doesn’t serve liquor there is BYOB. I hope they consider expanding the seating to make it even more comfortable for guests.

Overall, the experience was delightful, and the staff were exceptionally friendly. I highly recommend returning—especially for the wings, which were so irresistible we didn’t even have time to snap a photo! We will definitely be coming back for them.

Restaurant Week is back—and the best part is it always falls around my birthday ! After scrolling through the list and not really feeling the vibes, I landed on **Chateau Rouge**, which had already caught my eye during my initial search.

French and African cuisine? Say less for this cultural girly. The atmosphere is rich with African art and eye-catching light fixtures that really set the mood. It’s an intimate space, so come ready to cozy up with your neighbors and bring good energy.

Service was immaculate (shoutout to **Jeremy**!). The food was *exactly* what I wanted it to be—the Suya Wings, the Pineapple, and the beautifully crafted non-alcoholic drinks were packed with flavor.

Loved it. Will absolutely dine again—especially because I still need to try the **Virgin Royal** and the **Yassa Chicken**.

Visited for Restaurant Week to try something new. Host was very welcoming and answered all of our questions. Every dish we had was beautifully presented and full of flavor. The restaurant itself is also very cozy and intimate. Definitely a hidden gem! I will be back to try the rest of the menu!

Just visited for the first time, and my, am I glad I did! It was my 25th birthday and I wanted to go out to eat with my parents and siblings. I did a Google search for fine dining African restaurants in the city, and Chateau Rouge was one of the first ones to come up. As a fine dining line cook, I’m careful about where I go to eat out, but after reading the reviews, I had to try it out.
First, the restaurant is small but cozy in a home-y kind of way, so big thanks for Chateau Rouge for helping me arrange the reservation for all 10 of us to come. The decor was beautiful and not too much, from the pillows to the napkin holders, to the African masks and paintings on the walls. The chairs and tables are low, so if you have long legs or over 6’ like one of my brothers, it will be a bit uncomfortable after a while.
Secondly, the service was great. Our waiter explained the menu well and was helpful in choosing the right number of dishes for the table. Everyone was helpful all night in bringing out the food and drinks and clearing the table before courses.
Lastly, the food. THE FOOD. Bussin’ no discussion GOOD. We all ordered the pre fixe menu, $55 per person, 1 appetizer, 1 main, 2 sides and 1 dessert. You can pick from 3 appetizers, 5 main dishes and sides, and 4 desserts. Because it was 10 of us, we ordered a mix of everything so we could all share and taste everything. The puff puffs were great bread starters, not too sweet and bread-y. The veggie salad was dressed well, on the sweet side with the raisins and pineapple but balanced out with palm, bamboo and mixed greens. I would have liked more lettuce, but that’s my opinion. The pastels were very flavorful, I had to remind myself that it was tuna inside! The suya wings were so good! My siblings loved them so much, I need to get the recipe now! We all had the virgin pina colada from the bar, which was nice, a bit much on the mint and low on the coconut, but again, my opinion. The coconut sauce and the peanut sauce with the suya brochettes and the grilled chicken elevated the dish’s flavor to a new level. My siblings don’t like fish, but they liked the texture of the grilled fish and I liked the flavor. The yassa poulet and the haricot saute were some of the best dishes I’ve had in a while! The chicken so tender, it was falling off the bone. The flavor was new but familiar and comforting at the same time. The beans cooked to perfection, and so so good! Plantains and sweet potatoes were fresh and naturally sweet. I could tell the produce in the ratatouille was out of season and some of the rice was undercooked, but that’s because I have some experience in the industry. The dessert just completed the meal: the lava cake was light and chocolate rich, the fruit salad was fresh and naturally sweet, the banana flambé and caramelized pineapple were just delicious. This was not a tasting menu, so all the portions are the are the same are the à la cart menu, which are good sized if you’re a little hungry. This also isn’t a Michelin fine dining restaurant with the portions and platings, so don’t come expecting it. However, do come expecting flavorful food, you won’t be disappointed.

Just had dinner at Chateau Rouge, an incredible West African BYOB with a French touch on South Street!

It’s a charming Black-owned restaurant with a well-executed menu that features several dishes with spices that come directly from Cameroon!

They serve incredible entrees, but have a stellar 4-course tasting menu that’s only $55.

As you can see, it’s worth a visit. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Had a truly great meal here. We had 3 different kinds of chicken and all of them were delicious, but brochettes were our favorite. Definitely do not forget to leave room for dessert, the caramelized pineapple and banana flambee were both fantastic. Great atmosphere inside (didn’t see the outdoor seating), and super friendly service. Can’t wait to return.

My wife and I had a great meal at Chateau Rouge last Thursday. Steven was a wonderful server and the fixed price option is great menu. Our food and drinks were fresh and excellently prepared. I ordered the chicken skewers to start, followed by a whole grilled fish. It was delicious. We will definitely be back.

Took my husband here for his birthday and had an amazing time! From the atmosphere, to the service, to the most authentic food and vibe, we certainly enjoyed. It truly felt like we were at home! Also, the wings are probably the best we’ve had! Loved it all and can’t wait to return. So glad we went.

Where do I begin, I went here with a friend and the food was pretty good. Upon entry we were greeted by kind friendly staff members. For a first time experience i enjoyed it, the owner came to my table personally and introduced herself. The environment was clean and well decorated to fit the cultural aesthetic. I highly recommend making a reservation prior to arrival they do have outdoor seating if you find the indoor seating too tight. The space is fairly small.
