This is one of the best places to hang out, eat amazing food, and get great drinks in NYC. Not only is the French food delicious, it feels like home when you walk in the restaurant. The ambiance is amazing and there are so many regulars because it is the kind of place you can just keep going to. The charcuterie boards, flatbreads, steak au poivre, and the escargot are all must haves but everything on the menu is fantastic. If you haven’t been here go immediately!

The bartender today (01/18/2026) was SO nice! So friendly and wine is great. I also had an espresso martini, asked it to be less sweet and it was done just right! It’s really close to my gym so I will definitely be back. Amazing happy hour deals. Also, the prosecco glass is so cute haha. Will be back to try their food.

If you’re craving a cozy slice of Paris in Midtown, Chateau 49 absolutely delivers.

From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere strikes that perfect French bistro balance—warm lighting, intimate tables, and an easy hum of conversation that feels both lively and relaxed. It’s the kind of place that works just as well for a date night as it does for catching up with friends over wine.

The menu is classic French comfort with thoughtful touches. The Moules Marinières are a standout—plump PEI mussels swimming in a fragrant white wine butter sauce with shallots and garlic, served with crisp fries that are ideal for soaking up every last drop. The Boeuf Bourguignon is rich and deeply flavorful, tender short rib in a velvety red wine sauce with carrots and pearl onions—pure cold-weather bliss (even if it’s not cold out).

For starters, the Foie Gras Poêlé is beautifully seared and balanced by apple compote, and the Escargots arrive bubbling in garlicky parsley cream. If you’re in the mood for something lighter, the Salade Niçoise is fresh and vibrant, with perfectly cooked tuna and bright vinaigrette tying everything together.

The burger—topped with brie and caramelized onions—adds a fun French twist to a comfort classic, and the Steak au Poivre is expertly prepared, with a bold pepper sauce that doesn’t overwhelm the filet. Portions are generous without being heavy, and the flavors feel authentic rather than overcomplicated.

Service is attentive and genuinely welcoming—staff are knowledgeable about the menu and happy to offer wine suggestions. Speaking of wine, the selection pairs beautifully with the food and reinforces the restaurant’s French identity.

Overall, Chateau 49 feels like a hidden gem in Midtown: approachable, delicious, and full of charm. Whether you’re stopping in for a quick tartine and glass of wine or settling in for a full three-course dinner, it’s the kind of place you’ll want to return to.

I’ve been to Chateau 49 many times now, and it never disappoints. The consistency in both the food and drinks is amazing—it always feels like a home away from home. The atmosphere is so cozy and warm, with a nice, respectful vibe that makes you want to stay longer.

Their cheese selection is fantastic—definitely worth the price! If you’re a wine lover, you’ll love their wine options too. It’s just an all-around great spot for a relaxed and enjoyable evening. Highly recommend!

Chateau 49 is a corner property with indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating has both covered and uncovered options. The location is perfect for people watching. The interior is small with. bar area in the front of the restaurant. On the day I visited there was a single server and bartender. However the server was great! The food was fresh and beautifully prepared. I had salmon and the chef accommodated order modifications to account for allergies. The wine was very reasonably priced and they even had happy hour specials on the weekend! The bar area can be a bit boisterous but the meal exceeded my expectations. This is a neighborhood gem!

What a lovely find. We were so impressed with everything about our dinner here last night – the wine, the food, the service and we even accidentally showed up there when they had live music! We had octopus, escargot and salad – all where tasty and exquisite! Merci!

We really wanted to enjoy a nice evening with wine and good food on a weekday and ended up in Chateau. They have happy hour drinks till 7pm for $9 a glass which is a good value.
The only disappointing part of this evening was the service. We wanted to order the 2nd round of drinks before the happy hour cut, and the server denied them for friends with half full glasses. Then we all ordered main plates, and while still working on our food the waiter brought us the check. We didn’t give it too much thought, as we weren’t done and wanted to also enjoy desserts. So we ordered their flan and dessert wines and were trying to enjoy the evening. That’s when the waiter told us to hurry up because they needed the table for someone else.
It was exactly 1 hour from the time we sat at the table until we were asked to empty the table.
Not the best feeling for your $60+ pp cost. I wouldn’t come back here just because of the service. If they were upfront that we get only 1hr at the table, that would have been more fair.

Food was good. Lots of flavor in the escargot and burrata. Steak burger was good. Pasta had a little too much truffle oil. Fries were in pieces like lots of small bits stuck together then some long ones. Service was good, just too cold for outdoor. Definitely recommend.

Stopped in for a glass of wine. Sat at the bar and had a wonderfully casual conversation with the bar tender. Great place for a drink and nibbles on a cold evening.
