We recently visited Chaska Restaurant while on a trip with our parents. After searching for a good Indian place, we decided to give it a try. When we arrived for lunch, the place was surprisingly empty, but we were seated quickly, and the server was quite pleasant and informative about the menu.

We were excited to see some Thali options, which sounded good, so we ordered the Paneer Thali, Biryani, and Kadai Paneer with rice and naan. For appetizers, we chose the Samosa Chaat and Aloo Tikki. We requested everything to be made spicy, and the appetizers didn’t disappoint! The Samosa Chaat and Aloo Tikki were perfectly spiced—especially the Aloo Tikki, which wasn’t exactly what I expected but had a great flavor.

However, when our main courses arrived, we were surprised to find that the Paneer Thali didn’t have any paneer. When we inquired, the staff informed us that they were out of paneer, which should have been communicated when we placed the order. The Biryani was just okay, but the naan, especially the garlic naan, and the Kadai Paneer were quite good.

Overall, it’s a nice place with a decent atmosphere, but a little more communication regarding menu items would have improved our experience

This place is GREAT. The food is fresh and delicious. I got the lamb thali as a main the vegetable pakoras as a starter. The servings were extremely generous and I finished my meal with leftovers to take home and enjoy a second time . All the meat is halal which is another big plus given how reasonably priced everything was. Definitely give this place a shot and experience the flavorful Indian / Pakistani cuisine.

We ordered vegetarian dishes only. Service was very slow. It took around one hour to prepare first item.

I recommend to order tea, paneer wrap, veggie pakora-fritters and dal makhani.

I recommend not to order: paneer tikka masala, bengan bharta(eggplant) and veggie biryani.

We ordered tea, paneer wrap and veggie pakora-fritters in starter. All items were tasty. But it took one hour to them to prepare these items.

There was no sugar in tea. So we asked them to provide it. We were 7 people, he gave one small cup of sugar and 2 spoon only. We didn’t like it. He has to provide atleast 2 or more small cup of sugar and atleast 7 spoon.

We ordered main course:
Curry: Bengan bharta(Eggplant), Panner tikka masala, dal makhani,
Bread: onion naan, paneer naan, tandoori roti
Biryani: Veggie Biryani

We didn’t like bengan bharta and paneer tikka masala. Curry of paneer tikka masala tasted like it was taken from lamb curry. Bread were ok, not so good. Biryani was also downside. It was bad.

Think the rating here is a bit inflated. The food is really okay – the samosas were decent, tikka was solid but wish it were creamier. Naan was bit too salty, so much garlic to the point where it was pretty bitter each bite.

The real dish that threw me off though was the bhindi bhaji. The okra was definitely not fresh, and there were so many pieces of okra in there that were so tough, definitely getting woody from age. The lassi was good.

Overall would say food was very mediocre, but portions were big and pricing decent. Service was great! They were very kind and attentive, and for that I say overall a 4.

If you’re on the lookout for good Tandoori chicken, look no more. It was succulent, juicy and flavorful. We also had the butter naan and chicken curry. The naan was nice and the chicken curry tasted like something you would make in any Indian home. I’m so glad we live close by so we will definitely be back!

Here’s why i give them 5 stars:
Food is excellent, service is super frendly, parking is easy.
The Butter chicken is darn good.
The great thing about tis place are the menu specials, a type of “bento box” Indian Style. I loved it…you get TWO food options, plus a small salad and a dessert. It also comes with a Chai tea
SPECIAL BONUS: the prices are VERY inexpensive for a restaurant in San Francisco. The two item menus were $14.95

First time in and had the chicken biryani and bengan bartha (eggplant curry) medium spice level and soft and fluffy made to order garlic and onion stuffed naan. Yummy! Definite recommend. Love and thanked the two uncles/chefs in the kitchen! Takes Apple Pay and credit cards. Support local!

The neighborhood needed a solid Pakistani option. And here we are. You’re not coming here for the ambiance or whatever. You’re coming here for a plate packed with flavors.

I really enjoyed the massive biryani plate. A little kick, but not too much. The okra dish was a nice side. Unfortunately they were sold out on lamb on the bone which drove me here in the first place. I’ll definitely be back for it.

Their prices are very reasonable, the meal comes with free chai. Definitely try it.

This place is clean, has delicious food, attentive service, and fair prices.

I came in for lunch, after a woman outside handed a menu to me as I was walking by. I was the only customer. I ordered lamb tikka masala ($14.95), basmati rice ($3), rais malai ($5.95). After about 10 minutes, the lamb tikka masala and basmati rice were brought out. The lamb was tender. The sauce was flavorful, creamy, and spicy. The basmati rice was fluffy and fragrant. The portions were meant to be shared, so I asked for boxes, because I couldn’t eat it all.

I also ordered mango lassi ($4). It took a few minutes (I was told that they were making it fresh), but it tasted great once it arrived. It wasn’t overly sweet. I had no idea what rais malai was, and it turned out to be some sort of cheese puck in a delicious sauce that tasted like coconut milk and rose water. It was great.

The staff came over to check on me a few times and were helpful in explaining dishes and kept my water filled. My total before tip was $30.32. I don’t understand why there weren’t any other customers. This is a great restaurant. I highly recommend coming here with other people, since the portions for most dishes are big and meant to be shared. I did pay over $30, but the food was enough for two meals, so I expect that you’ll pay $20–30 per person if you share the main dishes. You’ll pay less if you don’t get dessert and just have water.

While the food at Chaska was amazing, what truly made our experience was the energy of everybody taking care of us. It was clear that the owner and everyone there cared about us and made sure we were well taken care of. In fact, because it was a school holiday, even the owners’ kids were there to help out, which highlighted the people-first energy of the place. The food came out fresh, hot, and delicious – in massive portions. We definitely recommend and will be back the next time we’re in SF!
