After many years of wanting to try out Chart House, my wife and I finally made it a priority on this trip to give it a shot. While the restaurant is situated on a beautiful location on the South tip of Longboat Key, that is really the one and only positive I am able to share about our experience this evening.
Unfortunately, our server left a lot to be desired for a fine restaurant. Not only was he not personable with either my wife or I, he also did not one offer to refill our empty water glasses or offer to get my wife a second cocktail. He also did not offer us any bread so I had to request that after it was clear he wasn’t going to be bringing us any.
My filet (which was ordered Medium Well) came out rare as you can see in the photo with a cold center. Ordinarily, that wouldn’t be a huge deal if our waiter had even stopped by to check on us or confirm things were prepared to our liking. When he eventually came by to clear our plates, he asked if I wanted a box to which I stated I wouldn’t need one given the portion I didn’t eat was not cooked to my taste. He did take 50% off that item so I will make it clear they did at least offer some type of resolution.
Ultimately, my wife and I are far from particular, but we both agreed this was easily one of the worst service experiences we have ever had at a restaurant, much less a fine dining experience where you expect to pay at least $75/per person not including beverages or tips.
This was a one and done for us so felt it was important to warn others that you will be far happier going with options like Shore, CW Prime at the Regis, Tommy Bahamas, Mar Vista, Dry Dock, etc.
We had crab cakes, clam chowder soup, and Kim Chee Calamari for appetizers. For main dish we had, sea bass with mashed potatoes and asparagus. For dessert, we had a dish that brought 3 different flavor crème brûlée. Sangria and water.
The crab cakes was tasteful. The clam chowder was okay, nothing to write home about and the same for the sea bass. The creme brûlée dessert was good, different flavors to suit different paletes.
Overall, it’s a nice restaurant with nice views. The food was okay.
View from our table was great considering we were at the back of the bar, will be back and make reservations for the main dining area.
It was our first visit and came to try out the restaurant during Savor Sarasota. We ordered the Caesar Salad, Salmon with Shrimp and Key lime pie. All were exceptional and very generous portions. Sadie our server was attentive during the entire evening and most importantly we never felt rushed leaving our beautiful view. We will definitely be back.
