I ordered the Hyderabadi Chicken Dum Biryani, and it was the best part of the meal. The rice was fragrant, the chicken was tender, and the spices were perfectly balanced. The portion size was huge, which meant great value and tasty leftovers! We also tried the karivepagu Chicken, both of which were delicious and fresh.
The service was also quick and very friendly. Our server made sure we had everything we needed and checked on us frequently. The restaurant itself was clean and comfortable. This is definitely my new go-to place for high-quality Indian food in the Burlington area. Highly recommend trying their biryani!
The food arrived very quickly, within just a few minutes of placing the order. While the service was prompt, it felt like the dishes were pre-prepared rather than freshly made after ordering. The taste was average overall. The Karepaku Chicken was decent but did not stand out, and the biryani felt lighter and milder than an authentic Hyderabad-style dum biryani.
Additionally, out of the two restrooms available, one sink was clogged, and both the paper towel dispenser and soap dispenser were empty. This shows there is room for improvement when it comes to maintenance and attention to detail.
It’s a convenient place if you’re looking to try Hyderabad biryani locally, but it may not fully satisfy those expecting a traditional, authentic Hyderabad experience.
One of the worst ever experience at a restaurant last week.
After seated at the table, two glasses with water were brought to us. After taking few sips, we noticed dead roaches inside both the glasses.
When we pointed it out, the server said the glasses were taken directly from the shelf and served without cleaning, and dismissed it by saying “it’s only bugs.” They offered to replace the glasses, but given the situation and the response, we didn’t feel comfortable staying and walked out, and they tried to offer 50% discount on food.
Finding insects in multiple pieces of glassware – especially ones that weren’t cleaned before serving – is a serious hygiene issue. Sharing this so others are aware and can be cautious if they choose to dine there.
I went classic with the Hyderabadi Chicken Biryani, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. Fragrant, flavour-packed, with chicken so tender it practically sent me a thank-you note for ordering it. My spice-loving friend, on the other hand, took the road less mild and went for the Vijayawada Chicken Biryani, spicy enough to make you rethink your life choices (in a good way). Both portions were generous, hello, leftovers!
Now… about the service. Let’s just say the biryani had more warmth than the staff. My raita was so salty, I briefly considered using it to preserve fish. When I brought it up, they did replace it (points for that), but not even a polite “Sorry” in sight. It felt more like I interrupted their group project than reported a genuine concern.
To sum it up:
Food – 9/10 (would come back for the biryani alone!)
♂️ Service – somewhere between “meh” and “do you want to be here?”
Go for the biryani, stay for the leftovers. Just don’t expect hugs and high-fives from the staff, unless they recently had a hospitality epiphany.
Happy exploring!! Happy eating !!
The bread sampler had a great variety of naan, kulcha, and roti (if I recall correctly). The chicken korma was rich and flavorful, and the tandoori meat platter was perfectly cooked.
The chicken dum biryani was the highlight—fragrant, well-spiced, and just how it should be. Great food, good service, and a place worth returning to.
One suggestion to the management is to fix the run-down look with the shedding paint.
Hyderabadi chicken was good, maybe a little spicy for me while it wasn’t indicated as spicy on the menu. The dishes are very well served as most of us only ate half of it so you would have a good left over for your next lunch.
Ambiance is OK, nothing fancy.
Couldn’t try anything today because it is a Tuesday
For the main course, I tried the Hyderabad Chicken Biriyani and the Lamb Rogan Josh curry with naan. The naan, unfortunately, was too thin and hard, not the soft and fluffy texture I was hoping for. On the bright side, the Lamb Rogan Josh was incredible – full of rich, authentic flavors that transported me straight to the kitchens of Kashmir. It was easily the highlight of the meal.
The Chicken Biriyani, however, fell short. It didn’t taste freshly made, and the seasoning was heavy on the cardamom, which overpowered all the other spices. It was a bit too dominant for my liking.
Overall, Charminar is a nice Indian restaurant with friendly service and some delicious dishes, but there’s definitely room for improvement, especially in terms of freshness and balance in seasoning. I hope to see them make these small adjustments in the future!
The food was outstanding, but what made the experience even better was their attentive and friendly service. They were quick, efficient, and always ready to help with a smile. It’s clear they take pride in their work, and it made my time at the restaurant truly memorable.
Thank you both for your wonderful service—you made the meal special. Keep up the great work!
Thanks a lot both of you, i don’t know your names, but still thankyou !!
