Well butter my biscuit and call me happy—Charlie’s Catfish House in Ellisville, Mississippi, is just like comin’ home to Grandma’s Sunday table!
From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with that good ol’ Southern hospitality—the kind that makes you feel like kin even if it’s your first visit. Now honey, let’s talk about that coleslaw. I don’t normally fuss with coleslaw, but mercy, this one is somethin’ special. A little sweet, a little tangy—just the way the good Lord intended. It’s the only cold slaw I’ll eat, and that’s sayin’ somethin’.
Now for the star of the show: the whole catfish. Glory be, they cook it to crispy, golden perfection—tender on the inside, crunchy on the outside, and seasoned just right. I swear, I have to get it every time I come back home. It’s like a taste of Mississippi pride on a plate.
The hush puppies? Mmm, a little oniony, but still good enough to keep you nibblin’. And those steak fries? Thick, hot, and just the right amount of crisp. Perfect for dippin’ or just poppin’ straight in your mouth between bites of fish.
And don’t even get me started on the boiled shrimp. Land sakes, they were huge! You get a generous portion too—enough to make your cousin jealous and your belly happy.

From the second we sat down, she treated us like family—quick with a smile, sweet as pie, and sharp as a tack. She made sure our glasses stayed full, our plates came out hot, and that we had everything we needed without ever feelin’ rushed.
You can just tell she takes real pride in her work—and baby, that kind of care makes all the difference. Shelly, darlin’, you’re a gem, and folks like you are the reason people keep comin’ back to Charlie’s. You made our meal feel like home.

Did not know they didn’t take debit cards. I got up front to pay for my meal. The lady was rude saying there was three signs as I was coming in. I clearly didn’t see the signs or I wouldn’t have ate there. She was rude. The food was suboar at best. Over fried catfish with no meat on it, Cole slaw was too tangy,shrimp rubbery. It’s 2025, time to get with the program. What an inconvenience and bad experience. I will make sure I tell everyone I know to never go there.

I almost gave it four stars due to the long wait at dinner time, but the catfish is so good that it deserves five stars for the catfish alone. If you like soft-cooked catfish, you won’t find any better anywhere in Mississippi. Fluffy, light, delicious.. The oysters are also equally tasty. French fries could use some seasoning, but who cares about French fries when you have the best fried whole catfish that can be found?
Suggestion: Don’t come between 5:30-7:30. You’ll be waiting forever to get your food. Come late afternoon or at 8pm. But if you do come during rush hour, the fried catfish is worth it!

Charlie Catfish House serves delicious seafood. The family atmosphere and quality customer service keeps you coming back. However, the restrooms are atrocious! This restaurant is jam packed every single day it is open, but doesn’t invest back into the business or it’s customers. Shameful, but we keep going so I guess there isn’t much of an incentive to change.

A very family-oriented unpretentious restaurant where the food is delicious the catfish breading was great the fish was fried perfectly, the coleslaw was delicious and it was again another family place to enjoy a good meal and be very laid-back. It was standing room only, that’s how popular they are! People came from near and far. I came 1100 miles and family took me there. The fish seasoning was awesome! They serve cornbread, Cole slaw, French fries and a Vidalia onion. $12.95. If you visit Ellisville, Mississippi or near by, please visit for their catfish! Absolutely delish!

Bring cash or else you’ll have to use their ATM with a big surcharge. Everything here is fine, if you like fried catfish then you’ll be happy. The boiled shrimp is pretty bland.

The ultimate whole catfish experience, absolutely the most consistently prepared catfish anywhere, anytime. If you’re going for atmosphere, this is not your stop. Go for great catfish. Atmosphere and great catfish are not two things that seem to co-exist. Phenomenal catfish, coleslaw, steak fries, and hush puppies! You won’t be disappointed if this is on your checklist. Be prepared to wait. Likely, you will be seated quickly, but save room for the catfish and sides. Only amateurs fill up on the phenomenal cole slaw and crackers!
