My wife, my friends, and I had a delightful meal here yesterday. I had previously known Peter, the owner, from the Darien Butcher shop, and was eager to try out his new venture.

He and his staff were so incredibly welcoming when I came in. The artwork on the walls was gorgeous, and the atmosphere really primed me for a great dining experience.

They were very accomadating with my wife, a vegetarian, and even altered several dishes so she would be able to join us. My party had a mix of the pre-fixe menu and the regular menu. All elements of our dishes were impeccably made and delicious.

This is truly a new jewel in Darien’s cap.

Would recommend anyone who loves food to try out Charlie’s!

Had a lovely lunch today at Charlie’s!

They’ve beautifully transformed the space – cozy and comfortable, with original art decorating the walls and a beautiful banquette along one wall across from the bar. Both our quiche and burger were delicious, and we can’t wait to try the breakfast. Definitely a welcome addition to downtown Darien.

We so desperately wanted to love this place. We even went back a second time in case they just weren’t fully operational yet. It’s odd to say, but we had the worst salad we’ve ever had. Drowning in completely flavorless dressing (we joked that they poured milk on top). It was so bad that we tried to cancel our main, but were told it was too late. Then the absolute worst pasta was dropped off. Fairly bland, grossly overcooked, and just stuck together mush.

Food here is surprisingly good. Steak Tartare a must – brunch Benedict great and the bartender Sacha is very great and personable.

Peter Crawford has had a few iterations of this restaurant since he purchased it and has finally GOT IT RIGHT. Food was delicious. The menu used to be prix fixe only, but now he has a full å la carte menu that even includes burgers with the fabulous meat from his Darien Meat Market. It seems like a French Bistro with the new décor and menu. We very much enjoyed our meal: radishes with salt, smoked salmon, steak tartare, steak frites and créme brulée. Nice wine, too.

Breakfast was disappointing. Asked for cream but served fat free milk with coffee. Was told the server had poured it himself and it was fat free half and half. Hmm. Cold scrambled eggs with “heirloom tomatoes “ which were microscopic bits of tomato. Asked for bacon extra crisp. It was not. We were the only customers. Loved the atmosphere but the food needs work.

All Seafood options were very good but surprisingly steak frites not good at all. Two slices of fatty meat and steak fries on the side. Hope they make it but things need to improve quickly.

Dinner options were sophisticated and terrifically prepared and served. If this level of menu and service is maintained, Darien will have a new “must try” establishment.

Good Burger. One of the best restaurants i’ve seen in Darien in decades. Thank you!

Only this welcoming and enjoyable was Sacha.

Owner was rude and drunk and the steak frites weren’t steak frites. It was more like a London broil cut in half
