Social Profile:

For over 75 years, the Vergos family has been serving their signature dry rub ribs in a basement through a downtown alley in Memphis. While the ribs are still the calling card, the menu is expansive with salads, brisket, chicken, nachos, sausage and cheese and more. A big part of what makes The Rendezvous special is the experience: The smoky aroma is grilled meat and barbecue shake. The sounds of Memphis soul and Delta blues, cut with clinking beer mugs and laughter. The taste, a perfectly seasoned Southern heaven. An experience you can only find at the world-famous Charlie Vergos Rendezvous in Memphis. It’s a legendary experience whether dining in, taking out, shipping across the country or catering an event.

I’ve had barbecue all over the world. Well, I’ve had barbecue in most places that are known for barbecue. Rendezvous dry rub baby back ribs are the nest dry rub ribs without a doubt. The texture, perfect. The whole seasoning and combined ground seasoning, Perfect. The bark, perfect. The bite, perfect. 10/10

Run, don’t walk here. This place is excellent. I am on my third day of trying to find good barbecue in Memphis and this by far is the best so far I got the brisket and ribs at the suggestion of the waiter. It was fantastic, so are the sides. Food was served in record time the restaurants awesome and really cute. The price was very reasonable and the serving size plentiful. Many of us took a bag home as we had a lot of extra food.

Being from Texas I’m not new to barbecue. Up here it is different for sure. I got the ribs with brisket. The ribs were not fall off the bone but were seasoned very well. I enjoyed them. The brisket was tender and juicy. It came with a small cup of beans and slaw. The beans were fantastic and the slaw was different but very tasty.

Exactly what I had hoped to find in Memphis! What a cool place in a basement with unique decor and amazing food! The ribs were perfect as was the brisket. The sides (baked beans/potato salad/slaw) all were flavorful and delicious. This is definitely THE place to get those two staples in this city. We also splurged for a buttermilk chess tart for dessert which was also delicious. I’d eat here again and again …

Thought we’d give them a try since we were within walking distance. Early dinner on a Friday night. Staff was good. Food had great flavor. Chicken was a little dry. Portions seemed kind of small? Chess pie was super disappointing. Definitely seems like a tourist destination. But overall a good experience.

Clearly an iconic and legendary institution both BBQ wise and representative of the city itself. The sausage was perfectly salty and melt in your mouth good covered in their rub but maintained that sausage snap of the casing. Perfect lead in to the star of the ribs and slaw/beans. Perfectly charred and dry rubbed, definitely would’ve scooped some of the rub if we weren’t going to Beale St. Do not sleep on the beans, they are sneaky elite. Typically not a big sauce guy either but their spicy sauce is definitely one of my favorite sauces to date. Equally as important to the meal, the service was fantastic, Cory was fast, friendly and gave us some great suggestions and conversation. It’s clear why this place is a staple and glowing example of Memphis BBQ.

Group of 7, 3 didn’t drink beer. Ordered the famous pork ribs, whilst it’s tasty, it’s not exactly fall off the bone tender. Otherwise the Pork shoulder and sausages is really good.
