I’ll tell you came to Washington DC with my niece to see the sites. Wanted somewhere to eat that was black owned. The front of the place is not modern however, once you walk in you feel like you’re at home. you feel like it’s somewhere you’re supposed to be. I feel like you are welcome from the door. We were greeted downstairs by a kind older gentleman that really welcome does and said thank you for our patronage. From the drinks to the food was amazing. The service top-notch if anybody wants some good soul food, seasoned food, Good drinks and hitting music This is the place to be in Washington DC. Come out y’all.

Came here for a quick bite with my pops for his birthday! Decided to order the Beef Brisket with Corn pudding and Mac n’ Cheese. AMAZING!
My pops had a lamb burger with a side of fries! I tried to get him a larger platter, but he wasn’t too hungry. Next time!
After cleaning our plates we washed the meal down with a Mango Margarita and a Corona (with lime!).
Great service from the bartender! They even have a bowl of treats upstairs for you to snack while waiting.
10/10 Highly Recommend!

This is my go to spot while I wait on my son getting his hair done at barbershop next door. Owner is always pleasant and helpful. Food and drinks are good. Previously I had the turkey burger and fries. This day I opted for the fish sandwich. It was fresh and very tasteful. This place is a must try!!

Listen. This food was fantastic. I love soul food and have been to many a soul food spot. This was the best cabbage and greens I’ve ever had. And my daughter said the wings were divine. And Charlene herself came out and showed love. Def check this joint out.

Visiting from Atlanta and I had to come to Charlene’s. I heard great things about it, and the reviews really had me anticipating my visit! It. Did. Not. Dissapoint! This is southern cooking at its finest. I had the smoked wings which were so tasty, brisket egg rolls were fire. For my entree I had Mac and cheese, collard greens, and salmon cakes…AMAZING. Definitely top 5 list of places you must eat in DC.

This was my first time visiting Charlene’s and to say the least I was not that impressed. The setting is tight and small, so I really did not have much room or space plus there was a party going on as well. The service was super slow, took forever to receive a menu and to order my drinks. I placed an order for the lamb chops, greens, and mac and cheese, I also ordered 3 wings from the appetizer menu. I honestly did not have a problem with my first entrée, but the fried chicken was old and taste stale. The inside of the chicken was brown and just disgusting to say the least. My issue is that if you know your chicken is old and stale, don’t sell it to customers. The crazy part is that I had placed an order for the smoked wings, but they came back after 30 mins stating they did not have any grilled or smoked wings, and that fried was the only option. My drinks were watery and I feel like my experience could have been better.

This place is a vibe! It’s a super small and cozy atmosphere and the music was on point. The food is amazing! I’d eat everything on the menu. They have the perfect fry, full bar and the price point is right. I highly recommend Charlene’s. It’s the one with the neon “open” sign.

This is my daughter’s second time visiting this location. She just moved to DC and it’s a local spot that’s convenient for her and friends… However the server is very jealous, and intimidated by my TEEN!!! She refuses to give her what she ask for, as if she’s not the one paying. If you can’t handle customers, find a different field. Furthermore we attempt to call and speak with the manager, and the restaurant refused!!! No worries. I’ll be there in Soon You don’t get to treat kids rude and envious because your life is bitter.
