Social Profile:

Charcoal Venice is an inviting neighborhood restaurant from Michelin-starred Chef and Owner Josiah Citrin that was inspired by the backyard barbecues he hosts on weekends for his friends and family. As the name suggests, everything is cooked indoors over live fire – whether over charcoal or in the coals. Citrin and Chef de Cuisine Dani McNish prepare a seasonal menu of craveable comfort foods featuring locally-sourced proteins and vegetables ideal for sharing family-style. Whether diving into a platter of smoky grilled chicken wings with a beer or classic cocktail at the bar, or splitting a 48 oz. dry-aged Porterhouse and a bottle of Bandol with friends, Charcoal Venice is an everyday dining spot.

Casual grill house for wood-fired meats, seafood & vegetables in a contemporary space with booths.

Salomon was too fishy, and was covered with sauce to hide it in our opinion. The lamb chops were not great. Ab it chewy to be honest. The carrots were delicious, the gem lettuce salad as well, super crispy and delicious. Japanese potatos were perfectly cooked and tasty. Service is friendly. We’ll be back for the sides:-)

I had heard great things about this Restaurant, and whilst was good, it could have been much better…
Seating outside was in an ‘Yard’ out the back of the Restaurant, they had tried to decorated it and it was pleasant, but ot could’ve been better.
The Service was both good and average…The Waitress was great, the other Waiting staff were a bit slapdash, ‘throwing’ plates onto the table, spilling Wine when topping Glasses up, just ‘lazy’ attitude…
The food was also a bit ‘hit-n-miss’. The Shishito Peppers Starters were nice (although there wasn’t many Peppers, but lots of Snap Peas ), the Cabbage baked in Embers was good
The 8oz Fillet Main Course was excellent , the American Wagyu Sirloin was poor (very chewy ), Fries were great , Roasted Wild Mushrooms Side not so good .
Overall, it was an average meal given the price, not sure I’d rush back there

Even though I live very close by, I stopped in for my first time last night for dinner and had a great experience. It’s a really delicious, casual, and unique steakhouse in Northern Venice. Parking in the area is fairly easy, we were able to find a metered spot directly in front of the restaurant otherwise other street parking is not that hard to find. Inside is quite large complete with a full bar and TV that was playing college football during our visit and a medium sized dining area with mostly half booths and tables. Our server was very polite and everything that we ordered arrived very fast.

I’d like to point out how delicious their house vinegar is that sits on the table. It’s inside the Maker’s Mark bottle and they use many different spices to create their own vinegar. It honestly goes great with the meat and veggies. We started off with the Beef Tartare and really loved it. It was well balanced and had a bit of spice to it and overall it was a real hit at the table. We also ordered a seasonal salad, which was the Heirloom Tomato Salad, and thought it was absolutely fantastic. The heirloom tomatoes were fresh, and it came with a lot of onions soaked in vinaigrette, which is an amazing combo for me. For our entrées, we chose the 10 ounce Prime Skirt Steak based on our waiter’s recommendation and the seasonal Tagliatelle. The steak was cooked perfectly and was juicy for every single bite. It was also a good size portion with no fat on it, which means the meat is high quality. The pasta was pretty large in size and great in flavor. It was really well balanced with the ingredients and it made some great leftovers. We wanted to try a dessert but after our meal, we were pretty full, but I plan to be back again in the near future to try more items. I would highly recommend to anyone searching for a great steakhouse or for a great Venice dinner.

Had dinner alone at the bar on a work trip. Fantastic service, delicious food, busy but fun vibe and atmosphere. The sear and cook level on my NY strip was perfect. Superb food and overall experience. Will definitely eat here again when I’m in the area.

Seated right away which was a promising start. Then came the news: happy hour is “bar only,” and no, you can’t walk 15 feet to get your own drink. The bar sounded like a frat party on dollar shot night, so maybe that was a blessing. Drinks took 30+ minutes, dinner limped along for 3 hours, and one entrée was canceled 90 minutes in like a bad blind date. The whole place felt like they were trying to host a wine-paired tasting menu in the middle of a kegger. Food was good, but not $100-a-head good. Oh, and the bathroom? Protected by a dangling curtain of beads which was like fighting your way into a tiki speakeasy. Bring your upper body strength.

Meat and fire … the absolute perfect combination. It must appeal to the primal instinct in all of us, and there’s just something that speaks to my soul when I see a well cooked piece of meat over the flame. And boy do they know what they’re doing over at @charcoalrestaurants

But it’s not just the meat that is well prepared. We started off with some amazing sourdough and butter, followed by the charred cabbage. Man was that an amazing dish, I was bummed that I had to share it with the table. Solid old fashioned which always goes well with smoked and charred foods.

The main show: gigantic piece of meat that we shared amongst 4 of us with all the sides. The steak itself was perfectly cooked and had the right marbling and char to make it amazing. The sides were all great, I loved the broccolini and the mushrooms, and the carrots were glazed and caramelised and so so tasty.

A great vibe in the restaurant, and wonderful service, who could ask for anything more! Run, don’t walk to Charcoal!

Literally minds blown… the Bison Ribeye will absolutely take you to another planet. I will be back to try more, but will never NOT order the Bison Ribeye. The lamb ribs are an adventure I will continue to crave and wish upon my closest friends. The carrots and mushrooms are incredible. Don’t order the Cherry Parfait unless you’re ready for a seriously deep spiritual experience. Sara our server was the epitome of amazing and empowered even more awe in our evening. When a server cares and invests their attention and presence like Sara does it’s almost as though they’re in the meal with you. All around one of the most profound dining experiences of our lives. Thank you Charcoal! True true.

Sat at the bar for happy hour. If you want a spot at the bar, get there before they open and line up. It’s worth it! Fantastic service with the friendliest staff I’ve encountered at a restaurant in LA. They all seemed to honestly be enjoying their work, and it showed. Really cool place, great food and the peanut butter cake was in my top 5 of best desserts I’ve had in my life. Next time I’m in California, I’ll be back.

Great appetizers, but the entrees and service missed the mark. The steak was unpleasantly chewy, and the salmon smelled fishy. While the staff was polite, the service was inefficient. Even for a busy night, it shouldn’t take multiple requests and over 20 minutes to get a drink. For a high-end restaurant with such pricing, we expected much better attentiveness and food quality.

The service was amazing (Juan was really attentive and kind and the entire staff was just really impressive) and I really enjoyed my cocktail, The Pineapple Express, with its sprig of smoked rosemary, but the food itself left much to be desired.

We went for DineLA so we got to try a lot of different things on the menu.

The starters included hamachi, chicken wings and cabbage. Of the three, the chicken wings were by far the best. They had an amazing smoked flavor. I really wasn’t that into the cabbage, but it came with a delicious dipping sauce.

Next up were the salads. I went for the strawberry salad and it was OK, but kind of standard.

I was really excited about trying the steak as the entrée, but it was pretty chewy. I did enjoy the dipping sauces that it was served with, though. We had carrots and summer squash as the vegetable sides, and both of them were quite bland.

We randomly ordered the fries after seeing them go to another table and that was maybe my favorite thing we tried, especially dipped in the fantastic house-made vinegar

And finally, dessert. The dessert was a peach and blueberry cobbler, not what was advertised on the DineLA website, and I wasn’t into it. The top was dry and almost too crumbly, like there wasn’t enough butter to hold it together.
