Came tonight for a birthday dinner with my husband. Had to ask for bread which should be served complimentary by default, though when it came it was warm and perfectly salty butter. Salad has wilted lettuce and is very tiny for a $7 add on. Steak was properly cooked on one side and overcooked on the other, though the flavor was AMAZING. Seafood add-ons were delicious (lump crab, shrimp, and scallop) but they were rather expensive for the portion size. Baked potato was not cooked thoroughly, nor was the broccolini. The asparagus and mushroom side was wonderful. First espresso martini was amazing, the second one had to be remade because it was wrong, but they fixed it. Dress code is not enforced- people were walking around in tennis shoes, jeans, hooded sweatshirts and even flip flops and pajama pants. Bread pudding was the worst we have ever had in our lives, incredibly burnt and overcooked. Pecan butter crisp was delicious. Hubby loved the salted caramel cheesecake. Server was lovely, knowledgeable, and honest. The manager was attentive and honest and gracious and took our comments in the best way possible. Would come back and try again for a hopefully smoother experience.

Char is one of those Jackson staples, and since Jackson is my hometown, I was excited to stop in while I was home for Christmas. I came for lunch with my girlfriend and my mom, and overall the experience was just okay.
My mom and I ordered the chopped steak with gravy. It wasn’t bad, but it also wasn’t anything to write home about, and the sides were pretty lacking in flavor. My girlfriend had the chicken sandwich—crispy and probably the best part of the meal. The sauce definitely helped and pulled it together.
We started with the crab claws, but you could tell the grease was old, which was a big letdown.
I won’t even get into the drinks.
This isn’t my typical experience at Char, so I’m hoping it was just an off day. Service and atmosphere were fine, but the food quality didn’t match what I’ve had here before

Walked into the steakhouse on Valentines Day only to find out 3 out of the 4 cuts of steak were sold out. Ordered 2 x espresso martinis only to be served 2 x chocolate martinis. Server took our food order and then forgot what we ordered so we had to redo. Appetizer was delicious. Mains were cooked correctly but lacked flavour. Wait time for food to table was great. Was disappointed to see paper being used as a table cloth as this takes away from the ambience/quality of restaurant that is being sold to customers. High value prices without delivering a high value experience.

Upon arriving, and despite having reservations, our party of 2 had to wait more than 20 minutes to be seated. When making our drink orders, the waiter had to come back two different times to inform me that the liquor that I ordered from their menu wasn’t available. The third one I ordered was, thankfully. My wife ordered a red sangria, and it was clearly not sangria – just some fruit juice (pinkish) with some red wine poured in. We ordered crab cakes for the appetizer, and while they were almost exclusively crab meat as advertised, and they tasted good, they were unfortunately lukewarm at best. The wedge salad was good. For the entree, we ordered the tuna thinking it would be a tuna steak. Instead, it was about 6 tiny slices of tuna on top of lots of rice and stir fry, and it was not good tuna (which we frequently order elsewhere). The server, while not rude, wasn’t the least bit helpful or attentive or personable. I had visited here about 10 years ago, and I had not returned due to a bad experience that time. I thought that with the passage of so much time that it was worth giving this place another shot. Needless to say, I won’t be returning ever again.

One of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had! Flew in town for work and I always try to find a nice local, non-chain spot, saw the reviews so decided to try it and we were so impressed we came back a few days later with a larger group. Our server was so attentive and helpful we requested him personally for our return trip. Spoke with management on both visits (TJ and Zack were their names I think) and they were gracious and appreciative.
From the classy atmosphere to the expertly made cocktails to the exquisite food and with dessert being the chef’s kiss, this meal was not cheap and it was worth every penny! The fried green tomatoes are the TRUTH! If I am ever anywhere near Jackson again, I will be back!

Call to ask about wait time and was told no wait. Waited about 20mins to be seated around 5pm on weekday. wait staff was good and beautiful large restaurant is capable of hosting many large gatherings, with at least two private dining rooms. Sautéed and fried crab claws and creamed spinach were very good. Black orchid is strong, with soft floral and sweet flavors. Restaurant was full at time of departure
