Excellent little secret food hideout! Had the roast beef po’ boy with gravy… what a delicious mess!! Everyone in my group thoroughly enjoyed items from this amazing menu (smoked chicken, BBQ) and the service treated us like family- will definitely have to come back!

I have never been to a restaurant and experienced customer service so rude and unprofessional in my life, including being threatened by the waitress to be punched in the face on my out. I never once raised my voice or argued with the employees, and I was approached with attitude and aggressive behavior simply because I had requested another piece of bread for my sandwich since it was split into 3 pieces before coming to the table, making it difficult to even pick up. I could hear the owner yelling in the back my entire meal about this request making me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome my whole meal. I would not recommend coming here due to the complete unprofessional behavior of the staff. I’m not sure how they are even in business treating customers this way.

I love Char-Lou’s. It’s a long standing Lacombe institution, owned and operated by a Lacombe family. My favorite place to eat. Phenomenal food at unbeatable prices, always served with a smile. Their smoked ribs are incredible. And their fried chicken kicks anything from a from a fast-food joint into the weeds. It even beats the Legendary “Willie Mae’s Scotch House” in New Orleans hands down, in my opinion.

I’ve been coming here for years. Great food, great employees. They have the best onion rings, sweet tea, and must try the Black n Gold Po-Boy! Delicious

I was born and raised in Louisiana and live locally to this restaurant I was highly upset by the customer service here. I was threatened by the owner to punch me in my mouth, simply because I had asked for another piece of bread for my sandwich as it came to my table in pieces to the point I could not even pick it up. Additionally I asked for another scoop of rice for my gumbo because I’ve never had gumbo with so little rice and as a result they charged me double the price. I could hear the kitchen staff yelling about these requests in the back the entire meal, as if I was a tourist who had never eaten a po boy or gumbo, making it an overall completely unenjoyable meal. We left the restaurant with 3 employees screaming at us, while we were completely civil. I will not return to this restaurant and definitely do not recommend this restaurant for any tourist wanting an authentic Louisiana dish.

If you’re looking for a roadside diner with great food at reasonable prices, look no further. This is a neighborhood kind of place on the main highway through Lacombe, Louisiana. It’s a part of old Americana reminiscent of traveling in the days before interstate highways and fast food joints. A great place for families, motorcycle clubs, and classic car fans alike. Try their cheeseburger poor-boy sandwich!

It was great as usual. Long time since I’ve been there but still great burger with grilled onions. Very good customer service, too.

1 stars because menu looked good and food was ok. Service was very rude and slow. If you are not local friend of family owned reataurant, you certainly dont get decent treatment. However, may be one of only places around to eat for lunch.

I went to Char Lou’s in 1999. I had the fried chicken liver. To this day, it was the best damn chicken liver I’d ever eaten. I think about it often. Seriously, I told my wife, the next time we go to New Orleans, we are going to Char Lou’s! This place should be on DDD.
