Chargrills is my favorite fast burger place for a lot of reasons. If you are looking for a great burger and a great classic family friendly vibe, look no farther. Whether you are coming for date night, lunch, or a treat after church or school this is your place. Such a unique look with the vintage meets modern. It is an experience. Cary Chargrill is friendly and welcoming to all, want to sit on the patio and enjoy the weather or maybe you brought your fur baby you can enjoy your lunch on the patio, but alas if the weather outside is dreadful cold, rainy, or just hot you can sit in side where you will find a love very clean and well kept dining area to enjoy the view of a flame grilled burger being built. The staff has always been friendly and welcoming. I watched them go through the line and everyone was welcomed by name and not just that you could tell they knew them personally or it at least felt that way.
Let’s get down to it though, fries that have more potato than salt are my favorite such hearty fries accommodate your burger that is always built the way you request and taste like heaven, melt in your mount real juicy burger. I never liked apple pies from Fast food places till I had one from Chargrill, it is perfect. But there is a secret! Shhh don’t tell! Get an apple pie and a milk shake and take a soon or fork and smash that apple pie in that milk shake! You can thank me later!

I stopped by for the Wednesday deal, where burgers and hot dogs are a little over $2 each. I ended up with two burgers and a hot dog for about eight bucks and some change. Can’t really complain at that price.
The burgers were surprisingly decent. Fresh, well balanced, and didn’t taste like they’d been sitting under a heat lamp since lunchtime. The hot dog was just okay. I got it grilled and topped it with ketchup, mustard, pickles, onions, and chili. It was salty and a bit soggy, but still passable. Not exactly gourmet, but hey, I wasn’t expecting haute cuisine.
What really stood out was the paper order form. It felt a little old-school, almost like placing an order at the Ippudo ramen chain minus the Japan and the ambiance. No awkward interaction, just check some boxes and wait for food. I kind of respect that.
Overall, it was cheap, filling, and oddly charming. Not bad for a midweek craving fix.

This place is just iconic. A great spin off from the longtime Hillsborough St location. The sweet girl Katie at the front taking our payment was so smiley, sweet and friendly. Burgers were yummy and I generally hate fast food. I’ve been converted! The outdoor seating is nice when the weather is good.

Surprisingly solid prices for the portions these days. A nice big burger, crispy fries, and a tall well-carbobated drink for $15 when I did pickup. They have spots to sit outside, and the workers I interacted with were fanastic. Just a great experience all around, improved my day.

Fries are outstanding.
That square steak jr, was a disappointment.
Two of the times we ordered one with bacon and it came without…. sure I paid for it but would be nice for them to pay attention since they deliver on a bag and you won’t go about opening everything to check things out.
Stick with the char grill.
Not sure if there is any other kind of cheese other than cheddar or American cheese (which is basically cheddar with Sodium Citrate)
Not sure if they have different bread either…
Taste is very good, specially the char grilled, stick with it and ask for mayo, ketchup or mustard, your favorite pick.

I visited this location today while I was at Fresh Market. I usually go to the Char-Grill on Edwards Mill Road, where I regularly order my usual meal with grilled onions, and they have always accommodated that request without any issue. However, at this location, they refused to grill my onions.
When I explained that the Edwards Mill location has done it before with no problem, the employee responded, “Well, we’re not other locations.” I found that remark dismissive and unnecessary. You operate under the same name, brand, and menu, so it was confusing and frustrating to be told that such a simple request could not be accommodated, especially when it has been done elsewhere without hesitation.
What made the experience worse was not just the refusal itself, but the tone and attitude behind it. There was no effort to be courteous, explain the reason in a respectful way, or provide any sense of customer care. It came across as indifferent and unprofessional.
Because of this interaction, I’ve decided I will no longer be visiting this location, or any Char-Grill locations moving forward. Customer service and consistency matter, and this experience fell short on both.

We were passing through Raleigh with a family member who was the only one who’d ever visited or lived here and that was over 30 Years Ago! When we were looking for a place to eat after a drive someone said the name Char-Grill and she said we immediately had to pull in. She had never mentioned this place in over 30 years and we were just hearing about it now. The experience was great! You fill in 20th century style menus of what you want and pop it through the slot and then you pay and get food! The Burger was great and tasted similar to Portillo’s in Florida if you’ve ever been there. 5/5 Rating!

Eating my lunch from there today and just left. Been making a habit of this since early spring and wanted to give them a great review. I order the half pound burger without the bun and they serve it in a bowl. I sometimes ask for extra on a couple of the ingredients and they never fail to be generous. I’m never intimidated when they are busy, because they always get the order done quickly, even though this burger takes a bit of time to cook. The persons are always friendly and made conversation! Highly recommend!!
