There are many restaurants in town. But, do yourself a favour, and have a lunch or dinner here.
This spot had been saved on my TripAdvisor for a while, and wow — it did not disappoint! We stopped in as a family and it was such a perfect experience from start to finish.
The vibe was laid-back with a gorgeous view of downtown, it is by the water, and the staff was super friendly and welcoming. We each ordered something different and everyone left happy and full! I had the lobster roll — hands down the BEST I’ve ever had in my life (and I’ve had a few!). So fresh, buttery, and just the right amount of seasoning. My husband and daughter both had the chicken sandwich and kept saying how juicy and flavourful it was.
We also enjoyed a few drinks while soaking in the view — just the perfect place to unwind. Honestly, if you’re anywhere near the area, do yourself a favour and make the stop. You won’t regret it!
Excellent food!
Wonderful and pleasant service!!!
Super nice atmosphere!
We loved char and Chowder. The food was absolutely flavorful and tasty- well priced. Lots of seating space! Smiley and pleasant service. We got the food pretty quickly once we ordered.
Completely recommend this place! They have blankets and heaters when it’s colder!
A restaurant with a very new style and fantastic foods and drinks.
Just be aware, if you never had a seafood chowder before, it sucks. After trying the one they serve at Char and Chowder in St. Andrews, you will have hard time to find a delicious chowder like they serve here.
The place and the service is fantastic. We came with our dog and got jealous right away. She got water and treat before we even set down at the table.
The drinks were hand crafted with local ingredients. They make their own report beer!!! The Moscow mule had a real kick. Was not missing the alcohol at all, like at other places. And the local beers are fantastic. They even had the Gahan blueberry ale from PEI!
We will definitely come back again.
I had the burger which was just ok but the fries were shoestring so I wasn’t too crazy about that. Portion size was lunch or lighter fare with high price point. Plate was probably size of a small salad plate
Wife had smoked salmon which was good but the portion sizes again were lacking.
Chicken fingers and fries the child enjoyed but you may want to ask for more sauce.
Overall not a huge fan of self serve like this but we gave it a go. Wasn’t impressed at the service and there is no table service other than to have your meal brought to you. Drinks you had to bring yourself to the table from the shipping container fridge. The one thing I wanted was the char chowder and they were apparently out of it. Washrooms were really hard to get out of.
We stopped in for an afternoon snack and decided to try the haddock chowder. It was absolutely delicious—creamy, flavorful, and generously portioned! It’s definitely a must-try for anyone visiting.
The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home from the moment we walked in. Their hospitality added to the overall charm of the restaurant.
If you’re in St Andrews, I highly recommend Char & Chowder for a delightful meal in a cozy atmosphere. I can’t wait to return and sample more of their menu!
I’d travel back again from North Carolina just to eat here. Friendly staff, good menu and an open courtyard venue.
