Chapala Mexican Restaurant Castle Rock – Diningtek
Reviews
Food was full of flavor and had a nice combination of heat. A large menu to fill the needs of any customers appetite. Breakfast served all day – and they have some amazingly good fluffy and tasty pancakes!
Everything was so good, love how they have radishes on the plate and other veggies. That roasted? jalapeno pepper on the 4 plate of tacos was delicious! To me the only thing that could have used something extra like a little heat or spice was the beans and rice but I normally don’t order those at other restaurants so not a big deal.
Atmosphere: Adorable and quaint. Comfortable. Really felt like the little restaurants were are used to.
Service: very polite and nice. Although, they were overwhelmed, as the place was full and there were only 4 people working service, bar, bussing, seating etc. So service was a bit slow. Not their fault! A full restaurant at lunch is always a good sign.
Drinks: Great strawberry basil margarita and pina colada. Bottled beers were great prices too! $4 domestic and $4.75 import.
Food: the chips and salsa were very nice, more of a blended, almost taco sauce style, but delicious. Got the bean dip appetizer (first we’ve seen in CO, but found in AZ alot) and it was great! Mains were tacos al carbon, steak and chicken. They were amazing! Highly recommend. Also got a combo plate to try the basics, ground beef taco, cheese enchilada and a tostada. All of them were very good. Exactly what I was looking for. Finished off with the best light, thin, crispy sopapilla I’ve ever had! It was huge too! Highly recommend.
Give this place a try! We’re definitely going back. But expect different flavors than what you’d get at Los Dos or La Loma. In our opinion, it’s better!
We ordered the taquitos for an appetizer and asked if it was white meat chicken when ordering which we were told it was, and they came out clearly made with dark meat. They were still delicious but I would have preferred white meat chicken. Their guacamole was delightful and not packed with raw onion so that was totally up my alley. The taquitos are simply flautas cut in half and that’s probably my favorite thing I grew up eating.
We ordered the Molcajete to share and it had a lovely presentation but the cheese kinda coagulated on top and the onions and peppers with salsa on the bottom were quite greasy. Most notable was the steak and that ended up overcooked and too difficult to eat so I skipped it after a few bites. The pestle it was served it continues to cook the meat as it rests on the sides so when it was clearly cooked in the kitchen and then brought out to eat, the meat ended up overcooking quicky and probably before it came to our table. I still am giving them 4 stars because I want to go back and try it again. I think there is a chance we just ordered an item that was not up to par on Monday. We ordered a meal to bring home for my mother and her food was awesome. The tacos were good and the tostada was perfect. The cheese enchilada was pretty greasy as well but she was overall content with her meal and was happy that everything was clearly made fresh.
We’ll be back and try again to see if we can get that amazing service again and try some different items on the menu next time. Definitely worth a try for everyone. They are so clean and the service is excellent. The salsa and guac alone are worth a visit.
Absolutely the worst service I have ever not received. Waited forever to order. Never asked for drink orders, never received the chips or cocktails that we finally did order. Never checked on us once after the food was dropped at the table with no effort made to place the food with the person who ordered it. Without question, the worst waiter ever! Total chaos with the food runners. Had no idea who ordered what.
Too bad. The food was delicious!
Maybe I’ll try it again in a year or so.
