Chaophraya Edinburgh has a fantastic location and atmosphere, with beautiful views of Edinburgh Castle。
The food, however, was very mixed.
The Khao Pad Sapparod (King Prawn Pineapple Fried Rice) was excellent — fragrant, well-balanced, with sweet pineapple and large, fresh prawns. Easily the best dish of the evening.
Unfortunately, the Khao Soi Nuea (Beef Curry Noodles) was disappointing. The beef quality was poor — quite tough and not very pleasant to eat, which really affected the overall dish.
Service was friendly,
Overall, it’s a nice place for the view and atmosphere, but the food quality needs to be more consistent to justify the price.

The desserts were quite underwhelming. The banana fritters could have been so much better, but they were literally just a deep fried banana. Not even a good banana. The mango sticky rice was supposed to be special but it wasn’t. The rice was overcooked and felt dry. The syrup to go with it wasn’t sweet enough. The mango was probably off-season, so that didn’t help either. The chocolate fudge was fantastic. The creme brulee could’ve been so much better, but as you can see in my photo, it was torched properly only on one end. It was good on that end. Rest of it just tasted like a sweet mush with no texture.

A dessert can make or break a meal! Especially when you offer a sampler platter. Alas.

The food was just OK. Nothing absolutely mind blowing like I had expected. Service exceptional.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Fantastic Thai Restaurant in Edinburgh

I had an excellent dining experience at Chaophraya Thai Restaurant in Edinburgh and would happily give it 5 stars. Everything was outstanding.

The food was absolutely delicious, full of authentic Thai flavors, and beautifully presented. The staff were friendly, attentive, and very professional, providing excellent service throughout the meal.

The restaurant is in a great location and has a lovely atmosphere, making it a perfect place for both casual dining and special occasions. The prices are reasonable and not too expensive for the quality of food and service offered.

I truly enjoyed my experience and would highly recommend Chaophraya to anyone looking for great Thai food in Edinburgh. I will definitely return!

Saving grace for this meal was the food. We had the set menu (YOM). We wanted to try as many dishes and this one seemed most appealing to us. No many faults to pick with the food. The tempura king prawn were nothing fancy as well as the onion ring. Chicken satay was the stand out on the starters.
Mains all lovely in their own way. Sauces and seasonings worked very well together. With the mains it states at bottom unlimited jasmine rice and prawn crackers. We had to ask twice for an extra portion of rice which took some time. Prawn crackers weren’t brought with food had to ask for them again separately which was disappointing.
The dessert (chocolate fondant) had a slight to tang to it but that’s personal preference not my type. It was very well presented.
Overall the food was good. Service disappointing and atmosphere was fine.
Lastly, The male and female restrooms had no hot water to wash your hands, which is terrible in a place that serves food. Adding to this there is no lock on the male toilet cubicle.

I had a wonderful dining experience at Chaophraya Thai Restaurant. The food was incredibly tasty, packed with authentic Thai flavours, and beautifully presented. The location is excellent and the ambience is warm and inviting, making it a great choice for both relaxed meals and special occasions.
We visited to celebrate my friend’s birthday, and while we thoroughly enjoyed the food and atmosphere, the service could have been a bit more attentive. We had to request our cake a few times, which slightly affected the experience.
Overall, I really enjoyed my visit and would recommend Chaophraya to anyone looking for quality Thai food in Edinburgh. I’ll definitely be back.

This is a beautiful restaurant in a great location. We went for lunch and were seated in the glass cube area with the castle as our backdrop. They had an amazing deal of 50% off mains which turned out really good value for money as our beef curry noodles and lamb massaman were very tasty and tender. However we also went for the 5 tapas style deal from the lunch menu and I would not recommend these as they were very unmemorable -the bao bun and crispy belly pork were pretty dry and the Thao taco/ wonton had strange texture . Service was good and overall we enjoyed our lunch.

Lovely rooftop seating! The atmosphere is very nice, fancier than my usual spots 🙂 Our server Daniel was also fantastic. Very friendly and accommodating. We shared the Chaophraya starter platter & some ciders. Every item on the platter was DELICIOUS!! The chicken tacos and chicken satay were my favorites. The sauce on the chicken satay tastes similar to a thick red curry and I will be back just for that!

We enjoyed our recent trip to Edinburgh and for the first night went to Chaophraya for our evening meal. The restaurant is absolutely stunning and offers views of Edinburgh and it’s Castle if seated in the conservatory area. We ordered too many starters as usual however the portion sizes were huge which left little room for our mains. We finished what we could and was provided with containers to take the rest home. Several tables were doing this throughout the night which tells you how good the portion sizes are, especially for the price as well.
The staff were amazing throughout the night, and a special thanks for Vincent who made our experience there even more enjoyable

Booked for an anniversary dinner with my fiancé. We were sat at a table in the back near the toilet that smelt and were horribly disgusting and not clean so we kept getting widths of the toilets. Both men and women’s toilets were in awful condition. Our table was sat next to a large work party full of people who were loud inappropriate and acting like they were in a pub. This made it very difficult to hear our conversation in the restaurant it took about 30 minutes to get a server for to order our drinks. We ordered the festive menu which the appetizer portion came quite quickly, but then waited another 50 minutes for our food. The mains was very tasty however could have been hotter as in it was sitting under the lamp for a while. They then did not have the dessert that was part of the menu, but offered us to choose another one from their normal menu. Ther service overall was mediocre at best, waited a long time for anyone to visit the table a clear plates. This was not a big issue, however slightly disappointing overall the food was good, however, ruined by the loud obnoxious people and atmosphere of the restaurant. Overall expensive for the experience of a wetherspoons.
