Chan’s is an institution in St. Joseph.
If you are looking for authentic food, large portions, friendly staff, and a slightly worn old school Chinese Restaurant, then walk in and treat yourself.
Family owned and operated, the staff is great. The food is on par with anything else offered in the area. Their fried rice is great and makes for a healthy, quick, pop in and grab meal to go.
One of my favorite things about Chan’s is the exterior facade. My great grandmother was a quilter and she said “If you are going to piece, piece boldly.” Their facade is a bold splash of color in downtown St Joseph.

BEST Chinese in St. Joe. I’ve been going to Chan’s Garden since I was a little girl. It was me and my gramps place we’d always stop and eat at ! So fresh and so delicious!! Everyone is always so sweet! It’s a cute location right downtown too within walking distance of the beach!

Oh 10/10. It said a 55 min wait for the order, guy came 20 min early. I got the C13 Moo Goo Beef combo first bite, I was blown. I just wasn’t expecting that amount of flavor and warmth. I also got egg drop soup and their veggie rolls which can be hit or miss some places-Was not disappointed! They even put in an extra roll. Definitely ordering with them again.
Ps: their food is filling in a good way!

Absolutely delicious, and most importantly authentic! I ordered the Orange Chicken and the sauce was amazing and flavorful, along with the way it had been perfectly cooked. I ordered a hot tea with it which came in a decent sized teapot – it was great for a winter day, along with a cup of their egg drop! Lucky to have this place in St.Joe!

Ordered online takeout for a combo meal of beef and broccoli and vegetable rice. I was a bit alarmed by the price of 25 (with tips and everything else), but when I opened the box I understood why. It was enough to fill 3 people. So that’s 8 dollars per person, very good value. The food too was really good. Can’t believe I’ve lived in st Joseph for 15 years and this is the first time being here

Food: 5/5
Service: 5/5
Atmosphere: 5/5.
Chan’s Garden is really good! Since moving to Michigan, I haven’t been able to get good Chinese food until now. I love the portion size for the dollar amount. I LOVE the big pieces of protein in the fried rice. The flavors were amazing! The service is very professional, from how the phones are answered to serving people. I enjoyed the atmosphere with people coming together to eat a delicious meal. Chan’s what a winning establishment you have!

It’s so so… I oreder the Tso’s chicken with white rice/shrimp and pork egg roll.(10.99 lunch special price)
And wonton soup small (5.99)
As you can see in the picture, it is not white rice. I checked my order on online again.
It’s white rice….ummm…
Anyway taste was so so…
Fride rice was ok. But chicken sauce was deliouse. Chicken fride was hard to chew.
I expected the soft chicken…lol
And wonton soup is very salty. I like ginger smell in soup. But totally food was salty
Only chicken was not salty

I want to start by saying I love this place and the staff is so super nice, but unfortunately some of the food quality has gone down. We always get the sweet & sour chicken, veggie egg rolls, and fried rice. The chicken tastes strange, the sauce was an odd shade of red now, and the egg rolls, which were once so good, are not great. Prices have increased, like everywhere, but for that increase I wish the food was still as good. We ordered it to go and noticed the to go container for the dinners is smaller now too. A better quality container than the Styrofoam, but holds much less. The fried rice was still very tasty and so I was sad to have less of that. As I said, I love this place, it’s our go to for when we are visiting St. Joe, but I’m leaving this review in hopes they reconsider and go back to how they were doing things before. Please.

Chans Garden is my go-to spot for Chinese food. The flavors are always spot on, portions are generous, and the service is super friendly. Whether it’s a quick lunch or family dinner, they always deliver quality. Love their fried rice – full of flavor every time!
