Social Profile:

Chang Chang, a new dual restaurant concept coming to the Dupont Circle neighborhood of downtown Washington D.C. The two-in-one restaurant will feature parallel dine-in and carryout services, which will function as fully separate entities with little to no menu overlap between them. We’re founded on classical Chinese cooking evolved with a contemporary technique. Our menu is inspired by classic Chinese style cuisine combined with a new world approach to modern dining experiences making bold flavors of Chinese with succulent well prepared proteins.

My review is for the takeout experience.

Chang Chang has become our go-to for takeout when hosting bigger parties. We’ve ordered from them numerous times to feed groups of 10+ people, and the quality has been unbelievably consistent. We’ve never had a poorly executed dish, even with large takeout orders.

What’s even more impressive is their GF menu. We have friends with severe gluten allergies, and not only does Chang Chang offer plenty of options for them, they also handle allergens carefully. Thanks to them, our friends can actually enjoy Chinese food without stress, which means a lot.

Pricing is very fair on their toast tab platform. It actually matches their in-store menu.

Lastly, the packaging deserves a shoutout. Everything is packed securely and neatly (we had a bad experience elsewhere where the bag actually broke causing food spills everywhere). You can tell they truly put care into their takeout operations.

Excellent job all around Chang Chang team. we’ll be back soon for the next party!

Winter doldrums call for dim sum, and this spot delivers. We tried the weekend all-you-can-eat brunch ($38 for adults; kids half-price) and were impressed.

Reservations are highly recommended—go early for the best selection. Service is attentive and efficient; you order in rounds and pace yourself. We barely made it through the first page before we were full.

Everything arrived hot and fresh, with tender wrappers and well-balanced seafood and meat fillings.

It’s busy and there’s a 75-minute dining limit, so this isn’t the place for a long, leisurely meal. Parking can be reserved via app or found on the street if you’re lucky. Come hungry!

I had “squirrel “fish once at a private Shanghainese restaurant. I was excited to know this restaurant also provides this special dish. I made an appointment online. I was able to find a nearby paid street parking. The staff were friendly. I decided to order Mandarin Branzino “squirrel fish” and Stone Pot Curry Seafood. Each dish costed around $40. The stone pot curry seafood was delicious and delightful but the portion was extremely small for this price. The mandarin branzino had an amazing presentation. The sauce was too sweet and thick. The booth furniture was not comfortable. I was a little disappointed for their food with this price point. I don’t believe this is an authentic Chinese restaurant. This is more closer to a fusion or Americanized Chinese restaurant.

The brunch is a great value. Very good dishes with a lot of options. The service wasn’t great, but we got all of our food in reasonable time. I particularly recommend the soup dumplings.

Service: We were a party of four with a reservation. We were seated in a booth and sat for about 8 minutes before I asked if we had a server. Then the server stated I was in my phone that’s why he didn’t approach the table. While I made a quick call, the same server walked by our table several times like the rest of the servers without saying anything before I brought it to someone’s attention.

Yet, when the table behind us had four Caucasian women seated they were greeted immediately and given a geeat overview of the menu. Yep, our family of four was not White! When the server came to the table, I said it was our first visit. A better explanation of all menu options would have been great to include the non-brunch. No drink options were discussed. It was a very BLAND customer service experience.

Food: Some of the dishes were served cold. While some of the items were fresh and hot there was nothing special about the cuisine. Most of the dishes were luke warm and the miso soup was way too salty to the point that I had a headache immediately after eating one bowl.

Atmosphere: The restaurant had low lighting and comfortable seating with a patio area outside.

20% service charge to all tickets and children under 10 pay full price.

Very limited street parking.

We enjoyed this place overall! I would give it a 4.5 star rating. Food was mostly good, service was a little slow (but food came out quickly), and atmosphere was nice.

I got a few of the small plates, and here were my thoughts:
– Pork dumplings – delicious, and probably the best dish
– Bubble pancake – very good and unique! Picturesque!
– Jade tofu and duck soup – great portion and value, although I think I was lacking some flavor.
– Wagyu lo mein – it was good overall and a great portion; not 5 stars, but maybe 4 or so.

Overall, we enjoyed this place but it wasn’t perfect. We’d come back, and I like trying a lot of the small dishes!

Incredibly overrated.. didn’t take many pictures but the dumplings were neither traditional nor fusion enough, fried rice had hardly any shrimp and didn’t even taste fried, portion sizes are not for sharing, dong pao pork was the only good dish there. The xiao long bao was good but the dough kept sticking to each other so we ended up wasting all of the broth because it would just rip… service was also very frazzling the waiters were always rushed, didn’t tell you the exact name of the dish you were getting, weren’t even fully aware of what was on their menu, had to wait for ages to someone to even bring us a menu although there were lots just standing about.

My waiter made our experience uncomfortable and our food tasted frozen and microwaved. Short and simple.

Our waiter would not stop telling us how we needed to do all you can eat because a la carte was more expensive. He repeated this 4 times. We let him know that it was okay and we understood. We only ordered a 2 drinks and 2 orders of har gow. We never been to this place and wanted to just try a couple dumplings to see if we liked it. We did not like our tea and asked him to please take it back and he refused. It was just weird.

As someone who is Chinese and holds high standards for authentic cuisine, I can confidently say this place delivers deliciously authentic Chinese food. I’ve visited several Peter Chang restaurants, but I assessed this one on its own merits.

For our table of three, we ordered quite a bit because the dishes were genuinely delicious. Most impressive was the outstanding service. Although the restaurant wasn’t packed, the staff were incredibly attentive, and each dish we ordered arrived within five minutes or less.

My favorites were the cold lotus root dish and the egg and tomato dish, which was truly authentic, delicious, vegetarian, and not spicy. The crispy beef, seafood fried rice, and Dan Dan noodles were particularly fantastic.

The crispy cumin fish, three-spice chicken, and cumin beef were very good too, making for an overall excellent dining experience.

Honestly deserves 4.5 but since we can’t give half stars here it is. Food was absolutely delicious especially for someone who is a pescatarian. Plenty of options although would be careful with the traditional choices as the tofu wrapped items are stuffed with meat! My favorite was the steamed shrimp dumplings! Highly recommend reservations!
