Great food and excellent service at a reasonable price. Tomato soup was creamy and rich with a touch of heat. Spinach tasted like it was cut fresh from a backyard garden, and hot bacon dressing was just that. Ruben had chunks of corned beef that were flavorful and juicy – not dried out like some thin sliced can be. Walleye sandwich is the peak of their fish fry battered fare on a soft bread that manages to hold together while you eat it. Bravo

Good time at the bar with colorful local conversation and very good cocktails. Both of our meals were very reasonably priced in today’s economy. One scallop dinner and another full rack of ribs were delicious. Spinach salad was a big hit. Perfectly prepared hot bacon dressing. Sour cream and chive mashed potatoes, as a side, also very tasty. The general condition of the dining area could be updated a bit. Lighting is dreary, tables quite close together, plastic topped tablecloth felt sticky and awkward. Front entrance, restroom, and far back corners of dining room are somewhat hard to access if you rely on any mobility assistance (cane, walker, wheelchair). ♿️
Chances is a thirty minute drive for us, but we plan to return in the near future. Hopefully before we have to navigate the front steps and street parking area when it is covered with snow.

This place has been around my whole life. It is popular and often busy for good reason. It has a great atmosphere, a little old but they work it with the haunted stories. The food and drinks were delicious! I would love to see more local ingredients added to the menu though. The prices were just right.

We love coming here for dinner, but still extremely disappointed that they no longer have their fried chicken and the turkey croquets. Both these dishes were to die for. (Can’t remember the reason, either covid or the chicken incident) Never returned to the menu. Had a good thing going for them. So very sad.

10/29/25- lovely from yesteryear. Had cracker breadsticks with cheese spread to start then the reuben rolls-delicious. The fried shrimp were huge! Service was excellent- Laurie was in & out many times too refill drinks,take dirty dishes,bring extra napkins- and great personality! Had a great time.

Something the waitress doesn’t tell you is if you don’t order your steak rare or medium rare they butterfly it and ruin it. That’s something they should tell you. Two other people at the table ordered their steak medium rare and it came out nice and thick and juicy my medium was like a piece of shoe leather. Lucky they butterflied it and ruined a $40 steak. Make sure whatever you order you asked the waitress if the cook is going to ruin it

Excellent Meal, great service! Prime Rib had a steak texture but prime rib flavor and it was full of flavor. The Steak Au Poirve was also full of flavor. Mash potatoes are creamy and buttery. Cream of Broccoli soup was spoon standing thick and cheesy.

My friend and I stopped here for dinner tonight. We had a fantastic meal! The atmosphere is come as you are. There is a large bar in the front. The dining room is in the back with plenty of seating for all group sizes. The hostess showed us to a table quickly. The dining area reminded me of the supper club atmosphere from years ago with the cracker basket and delicious, homemade cheese spread. Our waitress couldn’t have been friendlier! Her timing was perfect; very attentive without feeling like she was hovering. I had tenderloin tips over noodles and a dinner salad. My girlfriend had the steak sandwich. I was very pleasantly surprised when I tried the Parmesan peppercorn dressing (again, homemade!). It was a perfect side salad- not just a bunch of iceberg lettuce like some places serve. Our entrees arrived quickly. They were perfectly cooked and were nice and hot. My girlfriend always orders her steak well done, so we were worried about it being dried out. Not to worry; it was cooked to order and nice and moist. There was plenty of delicious tenderloin and mushrooms in my entree. The gravy was delicious! Thank you, Chances, for a delicious dinner!
