The wine was even better.
Not only is the place absolutely beautiful, but the food lived up to it. I had the 6-course menu with wine pairing, and wow… they really don’t hold back on the wine It felt like bottomless pours in the best way. The staff was super friendly and made the whole evening enjoyable. Oh btw, if you want to sit on balcony area, you have to reserve in advance.
Each dish in the tasting menu had its own flavor and style, and nothing felt repetitive. I loved the variety and how every plate brought something new. For the main, the beef came with what might be the best potato I’ve ever had at a fine dining restaurant. So rich and perfectly cooked, I’m still thinking about it. The leek from halibut was very interesting and impressive. Since it’s a course menu, things move a bit slower. The whole dinner took around 2 hours, so don’t come starving or in a rush.
Overall, I left full and happy. Definitely recommend if you’re staying at the Château and want the full experience
Dining at le Champlain had the 3 things I look for overall in a top notch restaurant; great food and great service all wrapped in an incredible and unique experience.
This was not my first time dining in a castle and when compared with my time at the restaurant in Carcassonne many years ago, it has some catching up. However, in terms of my various dining experiences in other locations, it was fantastic.
We had the 4 course wine pairing and it was definitely enough to make us full. From the flavour to the plating, all top notch. Our servers were friendly and attentive. The overall experience went above and beyond by offering several items not described on the menu. Ones such as a box of chocolates in which you get to keep the nice jewelry box.
Finally, you’re experiencing all this in a historic castle in a historic centre, surrounded by a mix of new and old world luxury.
