The Pine Plains fine-dining restaurant makes excellent steak frites.

We invested an hour + drive on a rainy evening, to add a new restaurant onto our bucket list, Champetre in Pine Plains NY, and it was well worth it. We are veterans of fine French dining and were not disappointed. The ambiance was pleasant and the service exemplary. We felt welcome right away when greeted by gracious host Helen. The food was all top notch. Would recommend.

Can’t say enough about this place from top to bottom.
The service was stellar, attentive but still allowed you to enjoy yourself, but always there if you needed something. Knowledgable, great recommendations, and you can tell they eat/love the food as well.
The food is out of this world. Classic flavors and well executed. The escargot is unreal! Simply the best I think I’ve ever had – and that includes Paris.
Can’t wait to go back.

Low-key exterior downplays extraordinary food. Wonderful service and a fully stocked bar led to a martini ordered “as filthy as three days at Coachella.” Favorites on the menu include the escargot, steak tartare, and every dessert (tiramisu highly recommended, all prepared by the head chef). Visit and feast while it’s still an undiscovered gem!

It was delicious, but I did leave hungry. I would go again if they opened for lunch. Servings are not big enough for dinner in my opinion

Well well well everything from the staff to the food was impeccable. Tracy & Helen greeted me and my party and tended to us the entire time. We felt like locals and like family while we were there. The Chef Michelle made sure to come say hello to our table too and took time to share stories of his well lived and fabulous life from France to Los Angeles, Colorado, NYC and finally back to this little gem of a town. The food only served to top our lovely experience. Food paired well with wine and the wait staff (Tracy) was SO EXTREMELY knowledgeable of how every dish was prepared and what exactly which wine to pair with our food. I was just a visitor but we so can’t wait to come back!

We returned there last night ( August of 2025 ) for our one of the very best meals we have ever had anywhere in the world. The Salads, Steak Frrires and Fish were amazing and the lettuce salad is an old favorite. The wine list is spectacular. Thank you Michel and Patricia. Just extraordinary in every way. AAA+. One of the very best anywhere in the USA.

Every time I come to Pine Plains I have to have at least one meal at Champetre. The food, service, and atmosphere are excellent. The biggest challenge for me is trying to save room for dessert which is a must. If you need a suggestion on a wine pairing for your meal you can rest assured they’ll have one. Easily worth a 45 minute drive if you’re coming from outside of Pine Plains.

The food was delicious and served quickly yet the evening felt well paced, not rushed. The bouillabaisse was spectacular, perfectly poached seafood in a flavorful broth. But the star of the show were the flash fried mushrooms appetizer. Salty, crispy, tender and so fresh. We’ll return sometime in the near future on a cold, crisp night for some authentic French food and a glass of wine. What a lovely evening…
