Having been to so many fantastic Thai places across the city, I thought Chalong might be overhyped or indistinguishable from others. I was very, very wrong – this place is incredible and not to be dramatic but it might be my new favorite Thai restaurant in the city.

Food – Baerng golae was our favorite dish of the meal, the taco shells were super light and crisp (they’re basically wafers) and the shrimp inside was sooo tender. My husband usually dislikes shrimp because of the texture but he loved it here. I could eat an entire meal of just these! The potato puffs were good too but less standout than the tacos.

Crab curry was simply delicious – I see why it’s one of the most popular dishes here. A bit on the salty side but very generous with the crab and flavor was incomparable. Fyi it has a moderate kick. Goat curry had amazing flavor but the goat itself was overcooked tough.

Dessert was the black sticky rice which was sooo good. Salty, sweet, earthy, sticky, warm – ugh just a perfect way to end a meal.

Service was very attentive and drinks were good as well. Will definitely be back to try more.

I recently visited Chalong NYC for dinner with friends, and overall it was a solid experience worth sharing! Located in the heart of Hell’s Kitchen, this Thai restaurant blends modern Southern Thai flavors with a lively atmosphere that’s perfect for dinners out, pre-theater meals, or casual nights with friends.

The space feels warm and welcoming, with thoughtful décor and an inviting vibe that made our group feel comfortable right away. The restaurant tends to be popular, so reservations are definitely recommended — it can get busy, especially on weekend evenings. The service throughout the night was friendly and attentive; staff were happy to explain the menu and adjust spice levels based on our preferences.

We tried several standout dishes that left a great impression. The Green Curry Brisket was rich and flavorful, perfectly tender and aromatic. The Mee Pum Riang had a unique, savory taste that paired beautifully with the noodles. Khao Pad Mun Goong was comforting and well-seasoned, while the special Baerng Golae offered a bold, complex flavor that really showcased Southern Thai cuisine. Each dish was generous in portion and carefully prepared, making the meal very satisfying.

The vibe inside Chalong is energetic and vibrant — lively enough for a fun night out, though it might be a bit loud if you’re hoping for a quiet, intimate dinner.

In summary, Chalong NYC offers flavorful, well-prepared Southern Thai food, attentive service, and a buzz-worthy setting. While some dishes might feel a bit pricey for what you get, the quality and creativity make it worth trying. I would definitely go back to explore more of the menu and enjoy another night of great Thai flavors!

ทางร้านมี 10 ดาวให้กดมั้ยคะ❤️

Every time I visit NYC, having Thai food is a must. This trip, a fellow Thai recommended that I try Chalong, especially because they specialize in Southern Thai cuisine and as someone from the South of Thailand, I had to see if it lived up to the hype.

Let me just say: 200/10.

The flavors were absolutely incredible, it truly felt like I was enjoying a proper, high-quality meal back home in Thailand. I went with my husband, and we both agreed that every dish was beautifully executed and packed with authentic flavor. You can really taste the freshness of the ingredients.

What impressed me even more is that their curry pastes are made fresh in-house, not from a can. That makes such a difference, and you can tell they take pride in doing things the right way.

The service was also outstanding. Mr. Mung Korn was our server , so polite, attentive, and genuinely warm. He made the whole experience even more memorable.

I sincerely hope Chalong opens a location in DC one day! Until then, I will definitely be back whenever I’m in NYC. Highly, highly recommend.

Visited Chalong and overall it was decent but not particularly memorable. The squid ink seafood fried rice was flavorful and had squid and crab that tasted fairly fresh, with balanced seasoning. The curry shrimp taco was interesting — the shell was more like a crispy egg roll wrapper, almost snack-like, and the shrimp itself was well seasoned. The curry lamb was also good and not overly soft or stewed down, which I appreciated for the texture. That said, portions felt small for the price, and while everything tasted fine, nothing really stood out. Considering the pricing, the overall experience felt a bit underwhelming.

I’ve been ordering delivery from this place for a long time, but this was my first time actually visiting the restaurant. We went on a busy Friday night and had a reservation for four. The restaurant was quite packed, and I noticed their Michelin 2025 award displayed on the wall, which was impressive.

We were offered a 3–4 person combo menu that included three appetizers, four main dishes, and one dessert, and everything was delicious. The flavors were great and the portions were generous overall. The only small issue was that one of the appetizers came with only three pieces, even though there were four of us at the table. It would have been nice if the restaurant provided four pieces so everyone could enjoy it equally.

We also ordered four cocktails, but unfortunately two of them didn’t taste great and were a bit too strong.

On the positive side, the service was excellent. Our server consistently checked on us and kept our water glasses filled throughout the meal.

Overall, we had a great time and enjoyed the food. I’d definitely come back again.

I’ve never given a restaurant a 5 star review before. Chalong, you’re my first! I’ve been to Thailand at least 5 times and I can say that Chalong’s Thai food quality is just as good as the mother land!

We had these 3 dishes: goat curry with roti, squid ink fried rice and southern style pad thai.
All 3 dishes were excellent, very flavorful, shrimp were fresh, some of the best stewed goat I’ve ever had, well cooked but not elastic, tender, buttery, slightly flaky roti dipped in curry was just divine.

The drinks were equally good too: Thai ice tea and Thai tea with lychee puree. Both great! A bit on the sweeter side but great flavor and authentic.

Environment was nicely decorated, greater and friendly waiter, when we were slightly concerned about the spice level, he was so nice to go to the kitchen to bring out a little sauce plate let us try a little sample of the curry to determine the spice level. The only downside is the tight seat space, we could barely make it out of our seats. Maybe that’s just New York?

Will definitely return to try more dishes!

I’ve been wanting to visit Chalong for a while and a bit sad that I didn’t come sooner since my experience was great. First off, the interior is beautifully done! The vibe inside is cozy and authentic. The food is absolutely delicious and i didn’t have one bad dish. I’d definitely say to come with a large group to try multiple dishes. I loved both the goat and crab curry, those were the show stoppers for me. The pork belly dish was also good but a bit on the fattier side. The appetizers were okay so I’d skip them and go directly for the entrees since that’s what stood out the most, they’re still good however. Love that they give chicken wings on the house. I’d hands down come back to Chalong and looking forward to my next visit so I can try out a few more options.

Food was really good. I am told Baerng Golae and Crab Curry were the two dishes that brought them the Michelin recognition. They were indeed great along with the Thai Iced Tea ice cream dessert. Green Curry Brisket, Southern Style Pad Thai, and Jumbo Shrimp Fried Rice were also good. But I liked the curry dishes the most. Could be more kid friendly by offering simpler dishes for them.

this is probably the best Thai place I’ve been to in NYC (and I’m Thai). Their food is so authentic AND MORE. Their cocktails are insanely creative and everything just hits right – even the beef fried rice.

The afterschool (suratthani butterfly pea cocktail) was super nice. Would be ordering the at again next time.

We were a family of four with no reservations – but we showed up at right at opening on a Thursday and was immediately seated.

Service is great, food is great, well done, Chalong!
