First time visited this restaurant recommended by my work colleague. Good service and good food, sabudhana was a bit dry. Everything else we ordered was good. One feedback to the owner is to provide proper plates and cutlery, it does not give a dine in experience when food is served in disposable plates and cutlery.

We hosted a birthday party at Chai n Chilli Clayton recently. Overall, the food was excellent and our guests really enjoyed it. A few people even commented that it didn’t feel like a typical North Indian restaurant — the dishes had a unique and special touch.

Our menu included welcome drinks, tomato soup, mini dabeli, Veg Kolhapuri, Kaju Makhana curry, plain rice with aamti dal, kulcha, and rabdi gulab jamun shots. Everything was tasty and well prepared. At $35 per plate, the food quality and variety were good value. The team was also thoughtful enough to keep a few dishes aside for us as hosts, which we really appreciated.

We had about 10 extra guests turn up unexpectedly and the staff managed it well. They charged us for the additional plates, which was completely fair. They also allowed us to arrive early to complete decorations and were accommodating at the start.

One downside — after the meal, while guests were still seated and chatting, staff began folding tables and asked people to stand up as if the time was up. This wasn’t clearly communicated beforehand and some guests felt rushed and uncomfortable. Clearer communication around event timing and wrap-up expectations would make a big difference.

If you love Maharashtrian food, this is the place to be. Some things you will notice immediately e.g. everything is fresh and seems to be in-house try the mango lassi, no syrup but pure AAM ras in butter milk, thick and creamy. Shrikhand is home made you’ll love it. We were interestingly recommended by someone in Pune . The ambience is very nice. We loved the painting on the wall. The seating is very comfortable. Good cush for your tush. Our kothimbir and sabudana vadi was authentic and along with the chatni, very tasty. Chaha in a glass brought back memories. We gorged on Puri bhaji/Chile with paneer burji, shrikhand and AAM ras. We also had the pitle bhakri which with the chutney and lonche was brilliant. I don’t believe there’s another Maharashtrian restaurant around. We loved our eats here.

Chai n Chilli serves some truly authentic Maharashtrian flavours. The Misal Pav was excellent, spicy, flavour-packed, and perfectly balanced. The Vada Usal was equally satisfying and felt like a comforting homemade meal. Highly recommended for Maharashtrian food lovers.
