Hidden Thai-Lao Gem in San Francisco! Spicy, Savory & So Good!
Reviews
Tried soft shell crab, green curry, chicken satay, chicken wings, tom yum soup, mango salad.
Every each one of them was on point!!!
Tasty, not too packed, quiet atmosphere.
It’s just you and your Thai food
Chicken Wings ($11.00) – decent
Chaa Roen Pohn Special ($40) – platter of mystery meats and a nice salad in the middle
Namtok Beef Noodle Soup ($16.00) – good! we ordered this with the flat rice noodle and it was very homey
Khao Soi ($16.00) – small bowl but bursting with rich flavors
Steak Laos ($17.00) – dry
Kang Om – ($15.00) – very, VERY spicy soup with too much dill
Mango Stick Rice ($8.00) – presented beautifully and tasted ok
For starters, we got regular rolls which is made of glass noodles and veggies wrapped in wonton skin. They were not too greasy and went well with the sweet and sour sauce it came with. For meals, we got khao soi, which is flat egg noodles in chicken curry, with crispy noodles on top. I broke up the fried noodles and mixed in with egg noodles which already soaked up the curry sauce. The curry was very flavorful and the fried noodles added a crunchy texture. We also got a stirred fried dish with pork (turned out to be ground pork) and a bowl of rice. They’re also pretty good.
Service was friendly. The music playing was quite loud however when we asked it was turned down a bit.
All of our dishes were full of flavor- one of them super spicy! My dish had a peppercorn vine which I tried but the heat was too much for me. The prices are quite reasonable.
red curry 3/5 broth not rich enough, can add more flavor
Tom yum soup 4/5 flavor was good, portion can be bigger. Didn’t say add shrimp will be 2 extra on the menu, confirmed that it would be the same, but they do charge 2 more for shrimp, similar as other dish. Not a big deal though, just to remind you guys.
Pad Thai 4/5 a little too sweet for me.
Overall a good restaurant if you want some Thai food.
