Social Profile:

The Centralia House was a landmark and a tradition on the original Illinois Central Railroad. Constructed about 1854, it was the social center of Centralia until it burned in 1918, and was famous for its restaurant in the days before the dining car. Each train was met by a waiter who announced the meals with a large brass gong. Some of the great men of American history dined at the Centralia House, including Stephen Douglas, Generals Grant, McClellan, Sherman and many more. The restaurant had such a fine reputation for good food that traveling drummers scheduled their trips to spend their weekends here. It was also popular as a stopping-off place for the local smart set.

Shannon was an excellent everything! He greeted us, took our coats, checked in on us several times throughout our dinner, While also checking on everyone else. The piano player was so enjoyable! The service and food were both so excellent. I would give this a 10/10 experience and we will definitely be back!

I had their Bourbon Glazed Pork Chop and Cajun BBQ Shrimp. They were both amazing. Service was also great. We’ll be regulars here.

Went here with high hopes. Reservation was at 5 didn’t get sat till 530, our waiter didn’t even come to get our order for about 30 minutes of sitting there. Took an hour and a half to get my med rare steak with shrimp and baked potato and when they brought it out the steak and shrimp were very cold like it had been sitting for an hour, the baked potato wasn’t cooked all the way, my husband had the same problem. I had them take it back and didn’t want anything else because at this point I had waited almost 2 hours to eat. They brought the bill and still tried to charge me for my meal which I hadn’t eaten and they had taken back. My husband only ate 3 bites of his. They then agreed to remove my meal but wouldn’t do anything else so I paid over 100 dollars for my husband to eat 3 bites of a cold steak. The people sitting next to us had the same problem of cold food and wrong food. I would not recommend this place to anyone and will never return!

I try calamari at every restaurant I can and this one was definitely higher up on my list. They were fresh and hot, not rubbery or chewy. Their sauce with it was okay, but I could eat them plain.
Their shrimp was delicious, wish I had more bread and more room to sop up that sauce.
They ran out of penne on the night I went, but it was still pretty good with the fettuccine noodles, but in the end I really should have just gotten the fettuccine Alfredo.

Can’t say enough about the freshness and quality of the food. Highly recommend the Caesar salad and Centralia House dinner which includes a delicious filet and quality shrimp. Craig is an incredible guy and Centralia is blessed to have him in town. Will be back for many years to come. Order an old fashioned, you won’t be disappointed. -CH

Visited Centralia House and enjoyed some Leonard Kreusch Riesling wine and ate:

Breaded Portabello Mushrooms, a cup of Cajun Bean soup, and Creole Shrimp.

Well worth the money spent. I skipped lunch because I had a feeling I’d eat well at Centralia House. Friendly GM and waitress. Loved the older decor feel. Centralia House has been around for more 100 years.

I go here for the famous combo, petite filet and Centralia House Shrimp! The best steaks within a 100 miles bar none. The wait staff is professional and the atmosphere has to be experienced to be appreciated! Bananas Foster for dessert gets flamed at the table, a must try!
