My wife got the loaded potato with brisket. The brisket was good but the potato had no butter. All of the bacon bits solidified with the cheese so it was basically a plain dry potato with topping.
I got a rack of ribs (dry rub), french fries, and some greens. These greens were good – seasoned well, not too tough, a bit of a bite, and a fatty flavor you expect. French fries were perfect – crunch seasoned crust and soft in the middle. The flavor of the rib meat was good, but they seemed overcooked. The crust was dry and tough.
It wasn’t a bad experience, but it wasn’t the best either. The staff was nice and the place was clean.
This is not acceptable. DoorDash refunded the meal and 1/2 the pudding. We will not be ordering from Central again.
The curds. Not ONE squeak. No gooey pull. Very uniform, straight from the Sysco/gfs truck freezer taste. The “heat” was just straight cayenne sprinkled after the fact. Technically yes, a spice, but definitely not the ONLY ingredient I would use to make a ‘spicy’ dish. Very disappointing for the price.
While we waited, which was a bit long for only 3 other people in the entire place- I tried all the sauces. I was underwhelmed, they all were too vinegar forward & thin. The honey gold (i think it’s called?) was the best of the bunch.
The pork rinds & pimento cheese were fine but it didn’t taste fresh made. I asked if they made them in house & they weren’t sure initially. I never got a follow-up clarification but usually it’s something a place rant’s & raves about.
The brisket sandwich. I specifically asked if sliced brisket was available, was told absolutely and still received chopped (takeout, didn’t open in store). It tasted like a steam bath but yet somehow still dry. I did this thing a favor by removing the half loaf top bun & adding the pimento cheese to the meat. Feel free to add that to your menu on buttered Texas toast. Guaranteed hit.
The slaw. It was spectacularly bad. It was warm, fruity? Did someone accidentally shred an apple & an onion that day? I will always remember it, so thank you for that lol.
I do want to say that the staff with whom I interacted with while ordering & picking up the To-go were courteous but seemed overwhelmed, even for a slow off peak weekday. I personally think it’s a bold choice to not accept cash at this location either.
My biggest piece of advice if you’ve made it this far, ESPECIALLY if you don’t know the area?? MAKE THE WALK TO JACK’S. I wish I would’ve taken the extra 5 minutes to do so.
The sides are delicious though.
