I’ve only had their gyro sandwich and falafel so I’ll speak to that. First, gyro sandwich was SO delicious. Fresh and warm with lots of sauce. They do use frozen gyro slices though. Falafel was also fresh and cone shaped, made into that shape using an interesting stamp-like tool. Price was right too–the gyro sandwich and 2 falafel to go was only just over $13!

Service was slow ngl, however, the old couple running the place were sooo cute I can excuse it. They were so friendly, warm, and nice; it gave off auntie and uncle vibes. Another customer in front of me must’ve been a regular because when the customer made conversation at the takeout window, I heard one of the workers go “We love you, John!!!”

At the takeout window, I do hope they’ll take down the pink garland/lights because it is dirty but otherwise the place looked clean!

I would definitely come back.

This family restaurant named for the iconic (and sadly endangered) Lebanese Cedar Tree has been a staple of Seattle since 1974 and the U-District since 1976. Over the past 50 years it has been serving delicious Lebanese food in one of the most collective international foodie locations in the City of Seattle! It’s steadfast history will be made all the more obvious when you taste the delicious cuisine of the Eastern Mediterranean. I had the Shawarma Plate with a Turkish Coffee and my partner had the Shish Kebob Enree. Both were served with generous portions, were packed full of excellent spice flavours, and came over rice, a side of delicious fattoush salad, and pita bread. The service was fast and one of the friendliest I have had in my past seven years of living in Seattle. They also have a take out window and outdoor seating. I highly recommend and will be back soon with friends. ❤️ ❤️

Based on preliminary research, Cedars of Lebanon, which was established in 1974, is the only restaurant still open from when I went to school at UW in the mid-1980s. I don’t recall visiting there when I was a student so I decided to go there for lunch. It is a cramped restaurant with beautiful murals on the wall and supplies stored in booths. I ordered the Gyros Plate, which I thought was the famous sandwich of lamb, veggies, wrapped in pita bread. However, the “plate” is lamb, veggies, rice, and pita bread on the side…kind of a deconstructed Gyro sandwich. I happily ate my meal while reconstructing mini gyros. It was good and the service was great!

Every time I’m in the U dist I stop at Cedars. I have done this for the past 30 years since I first got my license and could explore farther than my hick town in high school. It truly is a gem. Yes- it takes time to make- it’s not fast food! Yes- it’s not the prettiest and there is 30+ years of grime built up in spots but it is sooo worth it. The gentleman that owns it has always been extremely welcoming that every time it’s like coming home to family which I know is weird for the introverted stereotypical Seattle citizen but I kind of appreciate it. Also the coffee if amazing! In a city full of overly complicated and sugary coffee drink desserts it’s nice to find a unique and simple shot, well balanced and exotically seasoned with just the right amount of sweetness. My almost adult daughter now requests to stop in too. I hope it will be around for a very long time. ❤️

Open for over 50 years.

At the spry age of 75, John still looks like he can hit a home run.

And he’d probably let you hear it too.

In 2025, Cedars of Lebanon can only be described as a fixture of University District. My first time here, and I’ve already caught conversations with customers who have been coming by for 3 decades.

We ordered falafel wraps, foul mudammas, and greek fries. Real ingredients made with hands wrinkled from a lifetime.

Though from his smiles, prayers, and words of love – you’d think John is only getting started.

“I wish you two a happy life”, he says as we got up.

See you next time.

I stopped here to break up my commute home. I’m a big fan of Greek gyros and was interested to taste the Lebonese version. The interior decor is…let’s say it has a hole-in-the-wall charm to it. This place is set-up for takeaway orders through the window that faces the street; so I can appreciate the interior being a lower priority. The staff is kind and prompt. The gyros were delicious with a healthy portion of meat and just the right amount of sauce. The pricing is better than the Greek restaurant near my building where they charge two dollars more per gyro. I’ll definitely eat here again.

The owner is incredibly humorous and friendly! When I asked if they accepted Apple Pay, he joked and said, “Sure, we take Mango Pay .” The food was absolutely delicious, and the prices were very affordable. Highly recommend!

Amazing food! This place is a super cute little hole in the wall with amazing options! I got a gyro plate which came with rice and a salad with a pita pocket to boot. The meal was really good and the service was really nice, clearly a restaurant run with care.

The line moved really slow but I think it’s understandable. ESP when everything was heated and wrapped on the spot.

I found the owners to be super friendly and funny.

I asked for garlic sauce, not on the menu. And the lady boss gave me a naughty smirk and gave it to me. Then said it was special just for me. I thought that was really cute.

Later a guys order was called but the customer didn’t come to get the order promptly. The boss making the orders said “gyro and eggs! Move your legs!” I laughed really hard inside.

Finally when I got my order, the male boss handed me the order with a big smile. He seemed really excited about me enjoying the food. I appreciate the enthusiasm and quirkiness a lot.

Finally, the kafta is flavorful with a ton of fresh spices mixed it. My only regret is not ordering hummus with it.

I ordered shish kebab and lentil soup both were scrumptious. Tender, juicy pieces of meat with a hint of smoky flavour. Don’t forget to use their green hot sauce. Cash preferred.
