I do not like that sides are À la Carte, a sneaky way of driving up the prices…. $12.00 for the broccoli side dish pictured.
The reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because I clearly mentioned in my reservation that it was my birthday, yet no complimentary dessert or cake was offered. It’s not about whether I can afford it, and I understand that it’s not an obligation. However, for a restaurant of this standard, small gestures like this are part of what makes a guest feel truly special on their day.
I have celebrated birthdays at many restaurants of similar caliber around Maryland and DC, and this is the first one that did not offer any birthday acknowledgment. That small detail made me feel less special on a day that was meant to be memorable.
I ordered the Mezze Rigatoni, which was like a lasagna in a bowl. It was pretty good. I originally wanted the Rotolo (spinwheels); however, they mentioned that the menu changes often. We also ordered the oysters and the Pepperoni Bolognese pizza . The pizza had hot honey on it, which tasted amazing! It was my first time trying hot honey, and I usually don’t like anything spicy—but it was so good!
My only issue was when the waiter asked if we wanted our food boxed up. I said I would like a to-go box, but she repeatedly insisted that they don’t bring boxes to the table. Eventually, the manager—who was very kind—brought us a box without hesitation.
I appreciated the complimentary coat check at the front—especially since it was pouring rain when we arrived. Such a nice touch!
Dirty martini was dirty & strong. Perhaps too strong for some folks.
Great date night vibes with outside seating. Will definitely come back.
We ate our way through a handful of the menu items. I especially loved the two pasta dishes we tried. The pizza was also incredible. They had so many options that made sharing food easy.
My wife and I had lunch with another couple on Saturday. The restaurant is nicely decorated and does have a nice atmosphere, but unfortunately falls flat from there.
Drinks:
We started with a round of cocktails that were delivered to our table one by one – each being around five apart, without exaggeration. The cocktails were fine. No complaints, but nothing to write home about.
Starters:
We ordered the garlic bread to start, after our server told us that this is what they are known for. The garlic bread was $9 and what we received was a 5”x5” charred piece of focaccia that had an unusual fishiness taste (maybe anchovy). It was not good.
We also ordered a truffle pizza for the table. This pizza had great flavor, but similar to the garlic bread, the crust was charred black.
Wine:
We ordered a bottle of burgundy which was good, but it was served in almost cartoon like wine glasses. These glasses were enormous and heavy. We thought it was a joke. I’ve never seen anything like it.
Mains:
I had the Roseda burger and the rest of the table had the steak salad. The burger was described as a smash burger, which it wasn’t. It was fine, but nothing special. The steak salads were three pieces of grilled Romain hearts with sliced sirloin on the side, priced at $38. Again, edible, but nothing more.
Why I’m writing this review:
This lunch cost us just under $500, including tip. If it was half that, I would have probably been happy with it. But if you are going to charge premium prices, I expect a premium experience. Unfortunately, Cece’s did not deliver.
