I have breakfast there at least once a week. There’s 4 guys there (all waiters), and I can’t tell you which one is better than the next. Attentive, professional, anticipatory, and knowledgeable. The menu is beautifully crafted. The press coffee is second to none, and the food ALWAYS comes out perfect, curated and hot. Josh, John. Mehmet and (the fourth waiter…shame on me for not knowing his name) ☺️ are all phenomenal.

I keep telling myself to try new places but…why the hell mess with perfection, right?

ZERO complaints. That place is my ritual breakfast Zin. ❤️‍

Dear Hotel Management,

I am writing to formally report an unacceptable experience my husband and I had while dining at Café des Architectes during our stay at Sofitel Chicago Magnificent Mile on December 26, 2025. We were discriminated upon from our server Mehmet based off being black Americans. Discrimination shouldn’t be tolerated at all, but I’m more baffled how a foreigner is going around discriminating.

We were a party of two. Upon receiving our check, we noticed that an 18% service charge had been automatically added to our bill. After reviewing the menu (which we retained and photographed), it explicitly states that an 18% service charge applies to parties of six or more. At no point were we informed—verbally or in writing—that a service charge would be applied to a party of two.

The receipt clearly shows:
• Party size: 2 guests
• Service charge applied: 18%
• No disclosed policy justifying this charge

This discrepancy is deeply concerning. As paying guests, we expect transparency, consistency, and fair treatment. Applying undisclosed charges that contradict written policy is unacceptable and raises serious concerns about discriminatory or improper billing practices.

We have photographic evidence of both the receipt and the menu language and are requesting:
1. A written explanation for why an 18% service charge was applied to a party of two
2. A refund of the improperly added service charge
3. Confirmation of corrective action to ensure this does not happen to other guests

My husband and I are former hospitality professionals and are well aware of standard gratuity policies. This experience fell far below the level of service and integrity expected from a Sofitel property.

We would appreciate a prompt response from management. Should this issue remain unresolved, we are prepared to escalate the matter further.

Sincerely,
Simpson

A little pricey but expected for a hotel restaurant. Food was good. I had American Breakfast. The scrambled eggs were perfectly cooked as I normally find restaurants overcook scrambled eggs. The sausage was the best I’ve had in Chicago. Service was attentive and friendly. Coffee is a French press at the table which is convenient.

A great choice to have breakfast around the area. If you are staying at Sofitel, I do recommend going to this restaurant at least once.

The server was kind and friendly. The food is delicious and well served.

Disappointed, on yelp says French and now it’s Mediterranean. Menu is completely different. Shrimp wasn’t fresh, the salad too salty, waitress said the baby octopus is good, we tried it but it’s bland, and the fish was supposed to be sea bass, she says it’s the most popular, it’s nothing like any sea bass i had in other restaurants, doesn’t taste like it, doesn’t look like it. Paella was under cooked, we had to cancel it, cuz we don’t want to wait 30-45 mins for it. All the pictures on Yelp for the former French restaurant looks good, that’s why me and my friends wanna try it out, but not the actual Mediterranean restaurant now, not recommended.

This is a great restaurant with fantastic food. Try the baby octopus for dinner. A wonderful combination of flavors. Breakfast is awesome wonderful. The breakfast bowl is a very satisfying dish. Service was a bit spotty and slow on the several occasions I was there but still friendly.

Wow, what an phenomenal meal. Came by to try to the restaurant week menu with the three-course wine pairing.

The scallops were perfectly cooked and paired well with the horseradish sauce. The lentils were a bit bland, but added a good balance.

The duck breast was incredibly tender, and the pistachio bits and warm pear slices were a great addition.

The sticky date pudding was not at all what I expected but so delectable. I was blown away with the first bite!

Although the prices seem a bit high outside of RW, I was thoroughly impressed and would definitely consider CDA for a special night out.

Cafe des Architectes was simply not what I thought it would be. However, that does not mean it was lackluster. On the contrary, it was tasty but neither me or my lunch date were WOWed by the lunch menu.

When we arrived for a 12:30PM reservation on a Wednesday afternoon, the dining room was completely empty. Shortly after seating, it was half booked.

The space itself is absolutely stunning. It is very modern and bright and open. The flatware was of quality design and so were the linens. The details put into the aesthetics no doubt mirror the type of modernity you find in the hotel.

The service here was good. Almost too good. The waitstaff approached us too many times during the meal to refill water or inquire as to how everything was or if we wanted more bread.

The chicken sandwich was delicious and so were the fries. My enjoyed his pork belly sandwich, but did feel as if it was overcooked. Pork belly tends to be very juicy (due to the fact) but he mentioned it was a tough a just a bit dry.

I won’t be running back to CdA but if I do come back, it will be for dinner.

The Crispy Haloumi was incredibly good. It is a friend cheese with sheep’s milk (I looked it up) and the flavor is mild, nutty, and well paired with the sweet sauce.

Found CDA tucked away in the Sofitel amongst the many restaurants off Rush. Very glad to see the rebranded/reconfigured CDA take shape. Liked the “French Bistro” small bites, shared plates portions. The charcuterie selections and cheese are to die for, Jamon Serrano took our lead as well as Bresoala and Sobrasada. We made our own platter and it came served with toast points, jams and honey glazed nuts. we added Manchego over the Camembert. it was way too hot for a spreadable cheese. We decided to make shared plates our meals and can’t get enough of the Crispy Haloumi, you’ll fight over the crunchy bits. The Baby Octopus was sous vide and grilled to perfection… all this made a geeat meal for two. We can’t wait to come back and make it to table portions and dessert.
