I ordered my food with a canned soda and noticed I was being charged $4 for a CAN of soda. Absolutely not. I politely asked for it to be removed because that price is ridiculous no matter where you are. The server told me she couldn’t remove it because she didn’t have an “access code” and would have to call her boss.
I said that was fine call whoever needs to be called because I am not paying for something I don’t want. Instead of resolving it, she repeated herself, walked away, and came back minutes later with my friend’s food like the issue didn’t exist. When I brought it up again, I got the same scripted excuse.
At this point, it felt like they were just trying to force me to pay it. I asked for a new bill without the soda, which somehow was also “not possible.” Then I’m told that if the soda is removed, the server would have to pay for it at the end of the night as if that’s my problem? Extremely unprofessional and uncomfortable to even say to a customer.
After going back and forth longer than necessary, someone I assume was the manager finally told her to remove it after insisting multiple times that it couldn’t be done without calling the owner. So clearly, it was possible the whole time.
When I finally received my bill and food, it came with an attitude. Then, to top it off, my order was missing an item. When I pointed it out, the server acted clueless, made me open my bag to prove it, and only then handed me what was missing. As she walked away, she told another employee in Spanish, “I took it out of her bag.” Not only was that a lie, it was rude and unnecessary.
This entire situation was avoidable. Overcharging, poor communication, attitude, and then lying? Completely killed the experience. I’ve never had issues here before, but this visit was unprofessional from start to finish.
I came for food, not an argument or a lie. Do better because loyal customers shouldn’t have to argue this hard over basic respect.
I drove down from CT, excited for a good experience at Cantina Taqueria. I was greeted warmly and seated while waiting for a friend. I ordered the small guacamole, but it was disappointing—more like pico de gallo than guacamole, with way too much onion and tomato and hardly any avocado. It lacked lime, salt, or pepper, which made it even less appealing. I even texted my friend to express my doubts about the place but hoped the food would redeem it.
When my friend arrived, we ordered flautas and enchiladas de mole. She enjoyed her flautas, but I found the enchiladas underwhelming. The mole sauce was just okay—I’ve had much better. While I finished my meal, the portion of rice was meager compared to the sauce. On the plus side, the decor was nice, and they played good music.
I would have rated the restaurant a solid 3, but the payment experience soured my impression. My friend ordered a jalapeño, and I casually asked if we were in happy hour. A server condescendingly replied, “Did you ask your waitress for happy hour?” I was surprised; I thought it was automatically applied, given its visibility on the menu and social media. She insisted we needed to request it because “it’s two smaller drinks,” despite my friend only ordering one. I decided it was fine for them to keep the extra $7 as a tip.
My friend, who had just returned from the restroom, was not pleased and also inquired about the happy hour. Once again, they reiterated that we should have requested it. A manager then approached, attempting to clarify, but when my friend tried to express her frustration, he interrupted her, saying, “Can I finish?” He offered a free drink, but it felt insincere—it was about the principle of being kept in the dark about the happy hour.
It seems clear they intentionally don’t inform customers about the happy hour specials.
And finally, the prices are extremely high.
It’s not the first time we come here, but definitely the last.
Our server, who was also covering the bar, had a full restaurant if tables yet managed to balance super friendly service and making amazing drinks. My bestie had the Coco Loco and a coconut margarita. She said the Coco Loco was her favorite because it “tasted like vacation”.
I loved it so much I even ordered some food to go to take back home to my fiancé. I didn’t want him to miss out on this deliciousness 🙂
I can’t wait to come back!
