I had the most incredible experience at Catherine’s Restaurant! I’d heard so many AMAZING things about the delectable dishes, but nothing could have prepared me for just how PHENOMENAL it truly was. From the moment I walked in, I was transported by the warm, welcoming Caribbean atmosphere, vibrant, lively, and full of positive energy!
The food was ABSOLUTELY unforgettable! Every bite was bursting with bold, authentic island flavor (Jerk Bruschetta, Tropical Fruit Plate, Caesar Salad, Catherine’s Herb-Crusted Lamb Chops, Oxtail Lasagna, Oxtail, Sweet Plantains, Rice And Peas). The tropical drinks (Catherine’s Punch & Sorrel) were perfectly crafted, refreshing, colorful, and dangerously good! The live reggae music set the tone for the entire night, creating an electric vibe you simply can’t find anywhere else in the DMV.
I was happy we made reservations via “Open Table” prior to dining because the restaurant was PACKED, but we didn’t have to wait to be seated. Our waitress was knowledgeable, responsive, kind and full of smiles! Even the owner personally greeted each table with a smile and kind words!
If you’re looking for great food, fantastic drinks, and an atmosphere that feels like a mini island getaway, Catherine’s is definitely the place to be! I’m already planning my next visit, and bringing friends and family along!
Food we tried was superb! We are so glad that we stopped in for brunch on a Saturday. Brunch menu choices are excellent. Our server Eve was very nice and helped us decide what to choose on the menu since there was such a great selection.
Dessert was fabulous as well. We tried the Oxtail Lasagna, Bob Marley Wrap, Calamari, and Plantain Chips. All were delicious. Photos attached.
This was out first time enjoying this restaurant and we will definitely tell our friends and family, and return in the near future. ♡♡♡Also, while we were there, 4 separate tables were celebrating their birthdays, so this is obviously a favorite restaurant, and that alone speaks for itself. ♡♡♡ Recommend business casual dress or nicer, as we walked in after running errands, but they welcomed us which was nice. Definitely suggest reservations, although for us there was no wait at the time we arrived.
I ordered the codfish fritters and the Paradise Ital Pot with added grilled salmon. The fritters were good — mildly seasoned — but the sauce they paired them with really brought everything together. They were just a little greasy, but still very tasty.
Now let’s talk about that Paradise Ital Pot! Whew. It was like a perfectly seasoned “kitchen sink” stew — packed with so much goodness you could easily get a couple of meals out of it. Adding the grilled salmon was the perfect touch. Everything was seasoned beautifully.
Everyone at my table enjoyed their food and no one had a complaint. My only downside was the automatic 18% gratuity. I personally prefer to decide my own tip (I’m usually a 25% tipper for good service), so that wasn’t my favorite part.
Overall, I’d give them a 10/10. Just be patient — they’re new and getting into their groove. I will definitely be back!
In providing honest feedback, I do feel like the space is a tad bit overcrowded. There were too many tables which left little to no room for moving or dancing. Service was good, but inconsistent. It took about 45 minutes to get our drinks, and we had to ask multiple staff members for water before getting any.
Overall, the food was good enough that I’d consider coming back once they figure out some of the kinks with opening a new-restaurant. This spot has great promise they just need to tighten up the experience.
The food was good overall the steamed mussels were definitely the highlight for me. They were flavorful, perfectly cooked, and served with a delicious buttery broth that paired perfectly with the toasted bread. The jerk chicken was decent, but a bit dry for my taste.
The cocktails were absolutely delicious and well-crafted. While it’s a little on the pricey side, the atmosphere, service, and standout dishes make it worth it. I would definitely go again.
