Catfish King

Catfish King has been a staple in Mt. Pleasant for my entire life. The food and service are consistently good. I felt prompted to write a review after a wonderful experience there. My husband and I recently stopped for lunch on a Saturday. The restaurant was packed, but service was friendly and the food was hot and delicious. That evening, I got a random message on Facebook asking me to call the restaurant. Apparently, I had dropped my debit card at some point during our visit. I didn’t even know it was missing. Rather than just waiting for me to come looking for it, Ms. Sonya went to the trouble to find me online and let me know she found my card. I was able to pick it up the next day without the hassle of having to replace it. There aren’t many people who would do that these days. Thank you, Sonya! The fish and hushpuppies are top-notch – but so are the people!

The food was decent, not the best catfish king location we’ve been to. The fried fish, and small shrimp were great. The fried oysters, French fries, and beans were just ok. All of that lacked seasoning. The service was excellent and they were very fast bringing the food out. Everything on the salad bar was good and fresh.

Outstanding service during our visit to this local wonder of awesome catfish and fixin’s. We were taken here by my Sister and Bro n laws when we visited Mt. Pleasant Tx. The food was cook after ordered so it was fresh and hot. The pickles are to die for as is the catfish. They have a nuce salad bar where you can get a one trip or all you can eat. Two pots of beans available to add to your plate at no charge either. The chicken was as fresh and hot as the fish and the fries were an outstanding addition to either main course. The one small down was the pepsi dispenser,no Coke, but really good sweet tea so no worries there either. The staff was super friendly and helpful and always cleaning and picking up the dining room area. I’d come back just to eat here again and probably will do just that soon. Wish they were closer.

Had a great lunch here today. Got the regular catch which came with fish hush puppies and fries . The salad bar was stocked great lots of different choices. Made a great salad with pickled beets on the side with coleslaw. Choices of beans regular which are perfect, or chili beans which are perfect so had a cup of both. Perfect meal, great service. The tea was made perfect. Place was packed with people having a great meal. Didn’t get any dessert, will save room for next visit. The staff made the meal enjoyable with their smiles and great conversations. Bathrooms were very clean and plenty of parking ️. Disabled parking and wheel chair accessible. Great place to visit for a great fish meal. Highly recommend.

I watched a girl take a dry rag to wipe off a table. It has food remnants on it. She swiped one time along one edge (missing any remnants) and turned and walked back towards the kitchen and put the rag away. She then walked around like she didn’t have a purpose or know what was goin on. Never came back to clean it up. Most of the other vacant tables were all dirty.
Food was good.
I had to wait to refill my drink while two flirted with each other in front of the drunk machine for several minutes.
They won’t sell you a kids meal in the drive thru though

Some of the best baked catfish dinners for the money…they have a senior meal my wife always gets. Their baked potato bar is delicious, everything you need. Any other fish place is triple the price and no salad bar, the salad bar has pickled green tomatoes pickled jalapeno corn two kinds of beans lettuce lettuce and carrot and cabbage salad, sliced tomatoes fresh green peas in a selection of things I can’t remember how many I highly recommend this place.

The salad bar was okay..the cat fish had been cooked to long and was so dry I could not eat it. The French fries were cold and greasy. I was very disappointed in my meal. Great service and atmosphere tho.

The hushpuppies were old sticks with a lot of chew. The cobbler had a very unpleasant after taste. The kid’s meal was an adult sized serving of mid-range quality food. If you grew up around the place, you likely have a nostalgic loyalty to it and that is fine.

Newcomers, interested in giving it a try, should opt out, though!

Catfish was crisp and flaky on inside. Not over cooked or over seasoned. Brown beans gad great flavor. Loved the coleslaw and chicken was good also. Only thing I personally didn’t lijr was the white gravy. It was too thick for my liking however it had very nice flavor.

I didn’t make it to Louisiana, but I couldn’t be this close and skip a Cajun meal. I enjoyed the indoor ambiance, but since it was near closing time, I got my meal to go. Staff was friendly and catfish was good. Oysters were ok. I’d definitely go back.
