We went here for Valentine’s Day and it was perfect. We started with the small plates that were great to share. Oysters, carrots, bone marrow. They paired great with the slow fashioned cocktail. For our mains the duck was cooked excellent especially with that autumn squash. The short rib and blue grits combination was delicious. We usually save leftovers for our mains but not this time! The staff was very welcoming and helped answer any of our questions. We drove over an hour to come here and it was worth every minute. Will definitely be back!

We are thrilled for this new AMAZING restaurant! The food was incredible! The harissa roasted carrots were amazing and the pan roasted cauliflower was out of this world. The cocktails were delicious and unique!

I loved the aesthetic, definitely a very unique and special place. Also, the acoustics were fantastic! The restaurant was packed to the brim and we could still speak in low voices, hear each other perfectly, and could hear the background music. It all felt very well thought out and was the perfect experience. I really can’t say enough about this little gem tucked into downtown South Berwick! We are happy you’re here, Catbird, thanks for helping us celebrate our anniversary!

Dining at Catbird was an absolute revelation. From the moment I stepped in, the vibrant energy and welcoming atmosphere set the stage for something truly special. With Josh Grindstaff in the kitchen and Molly Pritchett leading the front of house, it’s clear that this is a place where passion and attention to detail shine in every aspect.

The wine selection was flawless, each glass perfectly complementing the dishes, and the food? Don’t get me started on the food. Simply incredible. Every dish was a true masterpiece, bursting with flavors that reflect the care and love Josh puts into his cooking.

What really makes Catbird stand out, though, is the energy. The seamless combination of great food, warm hospitality, and genuine love for what they do. I’m already counting down the days until my next visit. Catbird is an experience you won’t forget. (Make sure you get the caviar Pringles and harissa carrots!!)

A must go!! Delicious food and immaculate atmosphere. Cozy, curated, just beautiful. The food? Will be thinking about it for weeks to come. Roasted chicken was seasoned to perfection and not dry at all. Carrots are to die for. And it’s worth getting every single dessert to share amongst your party. The cocktails were also a 10/10. Highly recommend and wish them all the success so I can come back again and again.

Catbird is not only an exquisite culinary experience, but the passion for serving the best of the best is clearly demonstrated by the owner and her husband, the head chef. The atmosphere is moody, relaxed, low key- yet elevated, and the staff is extremely attentive and professional. There is a wide variety of small plates to share, some secret little gems if you know what to ask for, and the main dishes are to die for. The steak and frites was delicious, cooked to order and seasoned perfectly, no salt or pepper needed. I did, however, ask for the dried kimchi seasoning for my fries and it was delicious. The fish and chips was utterly delectable. Fish- breaded and cooked perfectly. Divine. We ended up sharing both because, well, how could you not?! My extra dirty martini was paired with a caviar chip, and when I tell you that bite was everything my soul needed, I may just go for that one bite alone again. We finished the night with Molly’s espresso martini- perfect, per usual- but with a hint of orange so if that doesn’t suit your tastebuds, ask to leave that out- and left with full bellies and looking at our calendars to see when we can make our next reservation. Run, don’t walk to Catbird! And be kind, they are literally only in their first full week of opening so there will be minor setbacks and little kinks here and there, but when I tell you they are worth every single minute you have to wait; I cannot tell a lie.

One of the best places around! Yes, the food is amazing. But the whole place is the experience! Cozy, warm lighting. The comfortable seating. The smiling and attentive staff (Zack is great!). The music selection was phenomenal too.

Love coming out to Catbird!

We’re pretty much obsessed with Catbird. Drove about 25 minutes and totally worth it!
The food was incredible and the whole vibe is awesome. Equally great for a romantic date night and a casual friend hang at the bar. We’ll be back…probably every week!

My husband and I visited for the first time last night. We had been regular guests of the former restaurant, Thistle Pig, as well as going to Secundo a few times before they closed. It took us some time to get over to Catbird, we hadn’t eaten at Dufour or had any prior experience with the chef so we were coming in blind as far as what to expect.

Let’s get to the positives which made our time at this restaurant exceptional:

• Atmosphere: cool, bespoke, great music (any time I hear White Stripes as I’m eating dinner I’m happy — I’ve loved that band since high school). I love how they remained true to the space but also infused it with their personality. I liked the color choices for the accent walls and art as well.

• Service: Joel was our server and I think he might just be the best server we’ve ever had! I used to work in the restaurant industry and I know serving can be tough, especially on busy nights such as holidays, but he was just as friendly and personable to us as he was everyone else in his section. The funniest part of the evening was when my husband couldn’t finish his dessert, and was like “I can’t finish this.” Without missing a beat, Joel replied “Not with that attitude you can’t!” we really appreciated his humor, and his ability to pick up on what we wanted without much fuss. He’s an awesome addition to the team. The other staff members we encountered were friendly too.

• Food: saving the best for last! We loved the menu’s uncomplicated approach and nuanced delivery. Little details can make or break a dish. The seasoning on everything was perfect. From the pickled radish to the farro that accompanied my husband’s chicken – it was all wonderful. There were little surprises of flavor throughout the dishes we tried. Recommended: fried enoki mushrooms, bone marrow, little gem salad, cheese plate, roasted chicken and roasted cauliflower. Their drink program is well rounded too, I ended up trying a glass of orange rosé (so good!) and a cocktail (Incident Report).

Overall, I would say this place ranks high with two other restaurants which are very near and dear to me – White Mountain Cider Company (Bartlett, NH) and Winona’s (Camden, ME).

If you haven’t gone yet, and have been debating, give Catbird a try – for it! I’m just glad to see this space being occupied again and I hope to return for many more date nights…and perhaps a burger night or two!

I celebrated my birthday last night at the new restaurant Catbird, and everything about the experience was exceptional. From the moment we walked in, the team was friendly, engaging, and genuinely sincere — it set the perfect tone for the evening.

I started with a beautifully made martini paired with a cringle caviar chip, which felt like such a thoughtful touch, especially for a celebration. What a fabulous way to begin a meal.

For appetizers, I ordered six local oysters served extremely cold with a lovely shallot mignonette — absolutely delicious. My friend ordered the biscuit and ham, and we both instantly fell in love with it. The biscuits are baked fresh daily and are honestly some of the best I’ve ever had. The ham is no ordinary ham either — thinly sliced, delicate, and almost Italian in style. The combination was unforgettable.

Everything we tried was wonderful, and I already can’t wait to go back and work my way through the menu. Catbird is a fantastic addition to the area and made my birthday feel truly special.

A truly extraordinary dining experience. The food was delicious—we ordered multiple small plates, each with a unique flavor profile, and each one had depth of flavor without overpowering. We shared a variety of entrées as well, and again, each was thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented.

Our server, Jessica, was a perfect fit: attentive and instinctive, professional yet relaxed and genuinely friendly. The atmosphere of the building is vastly improved over its predecessors—warm, inviting, and comfortable. There’s clear attention to the details that really matter, creating a place where all the elements come together for a wonderful experience.
