There wasn’t a wait, our party of 5 was seated outside right away. Our waitress was kind, but looked frazzled. She took our drink and appetizer order. We weren’t ready to order our main dish at that time, and she didn’t come back to take our order for about 20 minutes. My husband ordered a margarita on the rocks, and when he got the drink he found a hair in it. He went up to the bar to tell her and she just took the drink & dumped it out, then made him a new one. No apology for that.
We got our food, and again, my husband found a hair on his French fries. That ruined our dining experience, the rest of the food wasn’t terrible but we were now on the lookout for any more hair. As for atmosphere, the music kept cutting in and out and the fans weren’t blowing much air around.

We had our 2 dogs and sat on the patio. It was a little windy but they lit one of their outdoor heater torches for us. The food was really good. Wish I had more crab on the shrimp but definitely will go again.

We came on a Thursday evening in February. It was quite dead, but we got great food and excellent service! Cathy was a gem and so fun to talk with. Husband had the fried fish plate (mahi) and I had the shrimp lover’s dinner. We both enjoyed our choices! Portions were large and we ended up coming home with enough for another meal. We were a little hesitant because of the prices, but in the end feel like it was a fair value.

We love Castaways for their people and their food. When we eat at the restaurant, there’s a great energy surrounding the place. They are even dog, friendly, which we love. There are two dog items on the menu! The ambience, service, food are all in line with the cool vibe of Port Aransas. Highly recommend!

My friend and I went out to eat here not too long ago, while the food was decent it wasn’t really worth the price. We initially had to wait a really long time to be seated, there was no one at the host stand and when we were greeted and taken care of the service was kinda mediocre. the older blonde lady is very sweet though. i just think y’all need a hostess for such a big restaurant

So we had the hush puppies and the ultimate Port platter. Hush puppies were great. Lots of flavor. The grilled shrimp and coconut shrimp were amazing. My blackened Mahi was very bland. The oysters had no flavor. Also it did take us 30 minutes to just get a drink and it wasn’t that busy. The scenery is what makes this place nice.

We travel to Port A frequently but have never eaten at Castaways. We were there for Thanksgiving week and made a reservation for the Thanksgiving meal that Castaways was serving.
Ham or turkey, cornbread dressing, garlic mashed potatoes, creamy corn, green bean casserole, candied yams, homemade cranberry sauce, and a roll for $21.00. Sounded great, so we made our reservation for 3:00pm.
We arrived at the restaurant just before 3:00pm and were immediately informed they were out of turkey, so ham only. Ok, no problem. However, when our “plate” was delivered, there was no green bean casserole, no candied yams, no cranberry sauce and no roll. We instead had “canned corn”, plain mashed potatoes, dressing, ham and a piece of buttered white bread. WHAT???? When we asked about the “missing” items from our plate, we were told oh, we already ran out, but we are discounting the price.
We went ahead and ate the mediocre food and paid our “discounted” bill – they took off $6.00 per plate – WOW.
This meal was a complete disappointment and had we been informed they were out of almost everything, we would have opted not to eat.
If they were only taking reservations, they knew EXACTLY how many people they would be serving, so extremely poor planning on their part for running out food.
Based on this one experience, I do NOT recommend this restaurant and will not be eating there on any of our future Port A trips.
