Social Profile:

The Castaway was originally built in 1951 and known for many years as a place to get beer and shrimp steamed in beer. After all, in 1951 there were many shrimp boats parked a stones throw from the restaurant and if you never met a shrimper, the you probably don’t know it but them boys can drink some beer. In 1999 John sailed into Marathon, Florida ending a voyage that began in Los Angeles. He bought the restaurant and began a new adventure, oh yeah, he also quit his job, sailed the boat and moved to the fabulous Florida Keys. Now decades later The Castaway is busy again but with an expanded menu featuring all the S’s. Seafood, Steaks, Sushi, and of course Spirits and as of today now serving 52 BEERS ON TAP. Stop by today!

Old-school waterside joint offers seafood, sushi & tap beer in roomy quarters with outdoor seating.

Ended up here by chance, so pleased we did. Had brunch here. Food was delicious and our server was very kind, making sure we were happy with how our dishes were going to be cooked. Sat outside to enjoy the water and boats, met a wonderful old manatee who was asleep. Really enjoyed ourselves here

Marathon has a true treasure in this restaurant. The food is excellent, the service is excellent, and the folks are friendly. We have eaten at places all over the world and we now add Castaway to our list of ultimate favorites. How much do we love this place? We’ve been here a week and today was our THIRD visit. First off, the service is awesome (times 100!). Servers are friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. They have a good synergy between the front and back end of the restaurant. Food is consistent, prompt, and damn good. We’ve been working our way through the menu… the chef and his staff know how to prepare fish/seafood. This is now the place we will judge future seafood/fish dinners by. We have at least one more visit coming up before we leave, there’s a couple more items to try (wink).

We enjoyed some happy hour sushi, lumpia and fish fingers. The Tunachos were amazing and so was the Dragon Roll. The fish fingers were decent and the lumpia improved if you dipped it in the sauce that came with the dragon roll… Or was is the Tunachos sauce. Either way, very happy with the food and price point of the happy hour. Our server was extremely nice and would be worth going back just to be served by Mike.

We had dinner last week and enjoyed swordfish and lobster. Had to return today for sushi-Lion fish and Spicy Mae. All was wonderful and so fresh. Service both times was excellent. Definitely recommend if near Marathon Key.

Saw this place on Triple D right before we came to Florida, so naturally, we had to stop by. Everything was so delicious. We started with a Bloody Wilson and a Castaway Rum Bunch. Both were very good. Our appetizer was the Tunachos. Amazing tasty! We could have eaten these all day. Hubby and I shared the Lobster Enchiladas, which were stuffed with so much lobster we couldn’t believe it. We also shared the Lionfish, King of the Jungle rolls. So much food and so good. Our waitress was very attentive, which we really appreciated.

If you appreciate great food and service, this is your place. In the area for a week, and my wife and I have been EVERYWHERE. We planned on trying a couple new places every day, but decided this place is worth a visit more than once. The bartenders and waitstaff are a treasure, and the chef is passionate about his craft. The drinks were amazing, and the food was perfect. Best Rangoons and sushi we’ve ever had. Never heard of lobster enchiladas, but they’re worth trying. Fantastic! If you’re lucky, you’ll see the manatees. Thank you for a great couple hours. You made our vacation memorable.

Thank you to Heidi our waitperson, who took incredible care of us! She ensured my kiddo got tempura shrimp to eat and made our drink requests happen. Thank you also to the person who seated the three of us without a reservation. Awesome food too! And the manatees were wonderful. What a highlight of our trip!

Love Sunday brunch here! We had country fried steak and eggs with toast and hashbrowns. And blackened shrimp and grits with English muffin. And the mimosas and bloody Wilson’s are awesome too.
