Took my mom for a birthday celebration for her. We usually go south to Bellevue and Seattle for a good steak but wanted to try this place. Save a drive and enjoy the Skagit valley prices. We ordered the meatballs and scallops for appetizers they also had rolls and butter out for the table. Both were good especially the scallops!! I ordered a mix drink and it was fantastic can’t recall the name but really good my wife and I both had the ribeye our 11 yo had the sirloin and my mom had the filet mignon sides were all over the place the truffle au gratin potatoes were my favorite. Finished the night off with bread pudding. Everything tasted great our server ( I believe Sabrina?) could not have been nicer engaged in conversation with my mom about her birthday making my mom feel special. Even though they were busy she always had time for refills and checked in on us several times. Will be back! Thank you team for a great night out.

My mom heard about this amazing steakhouse here in mt Vernon so we of course had to check it out for my birthday. This was a wonderful experience and we will definitely be coming back. The waitress Rebecca and the General manager Becky was absolutely phenomenon. The restaurant was very quite easy to talk without yelling. Everybody was very kind and made this a wonderful birthday experience for me.

Usually I wait about a month or so after a restaurant opens to come in and give them an honest try. But I was excited to try their food so I didn’t wait! Let me start by saying everything was delicious. The food was perfectly prepared. Presentation was beautiful and the drinks were spot on perfectly crafted and delicious in flavor! I like the vibe of the restaurant it’s like High-End professional meats casual. They have booths or tables and a private dining area. I could see this place being great for business meetings or casual dining. The food is reasonably priced as are the appetizers. I definitely recommend giving them a try. I highly enjoyed my experience!

We had reservations for my husband birthday last Thursday and are glad we chose to try this new place but still had a few issues. The bartender was a standout while we waited for our reservation time he made us an amazing cherry bourbon drink that we both in love with and was so great to chat with. We were seated in a back room for our reservation at a very tiny table which was fine but they were not that packed so it was a little odd and my husband is 6’5 and with 2 steak divers it made it hard to have room for the food. My fillet mignon was amazing but unfortunately my husband’s wagu was not seasoned and served cold. We got 1 set of sides with dinner then after we were done eating our main course the 2nd sides were brought out and I was served mashed potatoes because they were out of macaroni which seemed odd they wouldn’t ask what other options I wanted since they had a great selection of sides. I didn’t eat the potatoes I was full from dinner and it was a bit awkward. I will say that carrots and broccolini were so good! We definitely will come back but giving it a few weeks to iron out the kinks. All in all very happy to have a new restaurant downtown, we try and support all the local places downtown as often as possible!

If 10 was an option I would give you 10 stars. We were a little early for our reservation so we sat at the bar and had lovely pre-dinner cocktails. We were seated at our table which was perfect and we had 2 more people than what I reserved for. The staff was super nice. Did not skip a beat. There were 12 of us and all the food came out in a timely manor and no complaints. Everything was cooked perfectly. I will definitely be returning and telling everyone they need to experience Cask and Cleaver Steakhouse. Thank you all so very much. Sorry I didn’t take any photos of the food.

***Before I start, they were still in their soft open stage when we went. We plan on going back to see if there was an improvement. If there was my score will change***

My SO and I went Halloween evening. We were so excited by the possibility of having a good steak house close to home especially after the dismal offerings of Max Dale’s. Alas, this place is was not what we had been hoping for. The steak nachos we ordered reminded us of microwaved nachos with some comically large chunks of steak thrown on top. The brussel sprouts (which we are huge fans of as an appetizer) were bland. We appreciated the attempt at different taste profile for such a common appetizer in the valley but it just lacked any luster. Our steaks, one a NY and the other supposedly a ribeye, were ordered medium rare, and showed up very under cooked. I regret not getting a pic of the insides but they were barely warm to the touch. The Mac and Cheese’s sauce broke and was watery. The sweet potatoes and the brocollini were solid but roasted vegetables are hard to fail at. On the whole to us they had a poor showing for a first impression BUT we plan on going back after some time has passed to see if they figured it out. If you’re looking for a steak house around Skagit it’s still the ones in the casinos. Our waitress was good and attentive. The food is what is bringing down the scores. The atmosphere was as expected, with nothing new to add to the steak house vibe.

First of all in an near empty dining room with many open tables we were sat in a table with the highest traffic. My seat was kicked at least four times and my wife was hit with two jackets and a purse during our meal. I did contest at the start and point at a lovely two top next to the window but was met with conjecture. I stared at it empty until a little over half way through our meal. Our meal. I excitedly ordered the beef marrow bones, and brussel sprouts as the appetizer and my wife the steak salad medium rare, I the $60 new york also medium rare. I often get rare due to the uncertainty of the kitchen but I was counting on the quality of the steakhouse. The marrow bones and brussel sprouts. I harvested a little more than half a teaspoon of marrow off the first bone plopped it on my crustini and looked around thinking it was a joke. I had roasted garlic on the other crustini and went to the second bone to excitedly find a whole tablespoon of marrow to dollop on the other two crustini with more roasted garlic. That was $20. The brussel sprouts was a mushy pile of sweet mess. My wife’s salad came. She likes blue cheese crumbles but not blue cheese dressing. She substituted ranch still wanted the crumbles. No crumbles. Steak was good medium rare as requested. My steak arrived with a lite sear around the edges, charred broccoli on a sauce. The steak was medium, toward the center was a sliver of medium rare. Tough for an aged new york. After I was done with the grissel laden steak I commented that it was a bit dry and needed a bit of sauce and realized that it didn’t have any of the signature burbon butter on my steak. They forgot it. I happend to see another steak go by with a big dollop on it. The side dish of sweet potato came a minute or two after the mains were set, was luke warm in a sweet sour sauce that was unpleasant. This was not a good experience.

Super relaxing and cute atmosphere, and I appreciate there being a dedicated steakhouse in downtown Mt Vernon. We did have a reservation so we got seated right away. For those without a reservation, the host was being careful to not overload the dining room so as to not overload the kitchen, which I think everyone can understand. Out waitress Julia was super nice, friendly, and answered our questions about the menu. The menu was great for a Steakhouse, I didn’t mind that it was on the smaller side. This way, I’m sure the kitchen can hone in and perfect the menu.

My wife got a strawberry lemonade and it was a cool touch that glitter was an option to add to the drink!

We loved the bread and butter. It was like a mini cheddar biscuit that were light and airy but still had a nice crisp/crunch. The butter was a bit too much garlic for my wife, but I loved how it was. We weren’t asked, but perhaps having the option of garlic butter or normal butter (or both) would be awesome!

We ordered the twice baked potato appetizer, which was definitely good. Our critiques are that they seemed unsalted which we remidied by adding our own salt. We also loved the bacon flavor but thought it could have benefited from just a tad more bacon on each potato. Same goes for the cheese, it needed more cheese on there. Maybe these two elements (more bacon, more cheese) would add the extra saltiness we were looking for.

I got the 16 Oz ribeye, it was absolutely delicious. Cooked a perfect medium rare (see Pic) and it had an impressive edge to edge cook (no gray band). I loved how the steak was topped with a little extra salt (probably Maldon), and there was a good amount of fat on the ribeye which was rendered nicely and very flavorful. The steak was tender and juicy, it’s probably on par/better than Rare Society in mill creek and $9 cheaper. Big win for cask and cleaver in my book.

My wife got the chimichurri chicken which was priced at a great value for the portion. I think the menu should specify it is “bone in” though, since my wife was not expecting that and it made the eating experience more difficult for her. She did love the moistness of the chicken, and the chimichurri has a perfect touch of heat to really elevate the dish.

The mac and cheese gave similar vibes to the potato skins (just needs a tweak or two) but was delicious as is. I felt the ratio of cheese bechemel to pasta was off; it was rather sauce heavy. Maybe less cream, more cheese, and more pasta would make for a better texture / consistency. But the flavor profile is there, it was great.

The sweet potatoes were also delicious with that glaze on them. My only issue were that about a third of the potatoes were still very hard (almost snappy) so I avoided those ones, but all the rest were melt in your mouth delicious.

The broccolini was very delicious, still had a nice but delicate crunch to them, had great char flavor (not too much char), and had some nice creamy tangy sauce/glaze drizzled on it. Definitely an elevated broccolini compared to other restaurants.

Overall, this restaurant delivered a nearly perfect first impression. I am confident that the kitchen will master all the dishes in due time, and I’m excited to come back and try some other things on the menu. The prices seem great too! Great job!
